franfranParticipantI open this post to decide who the best perimeter defender (young players)
Avery Bradley
Paul George
Iman Shumpert
Ricky Rubio
Jrue Holiday
Russell Westbrook
Eric Gordon
Another?

fliptonnParticipantI think Rubio does a really good job of frustrating the guy he’s guarding. But if your looking for just a lock-down guy I’d have to go with Paul George because he guard multiple positions and his athleticism and length allows him to keep just about anyone in front of him as well as help out when a teammate gets beat.

derrickrose231ParticipantDerrick rose is an excellent on ball defender

IndianaBasketballParticipantEvan Turner is another young guy that should be added to that list… He’s a very good defender.
Avery Bradley is the best perimeter on ball defender by far, but I really like the versatility of Paul Geroge and Iman Shumpert.

FastAndFuriousParticipantEric Bledsoe

Sewok15ParticipantEvan Turner is a much better defender than Holiday. I watched the majority of sixers games and if the opposing team has a PG they want to keep out of the paint it will be Turner on him not Jrue.

johnecoParticipantI think Shumpert is the best.
Followed by Avery Bradley.
I like Rondo for defending lightning fast PGs.

ChewyParticipantbut not sure if you consider them young. Both are more in their prime right now so they may not count for this list.
Leonard from San Antonio def should be on here

SpacegrassParticipantRubio is good at jumping passing lanes for steals , does not mean he is good on ball defender.

LeroyJenkinsParticipantI thought Holiday would be closer to lockdown d status than he is so far by now

TRC1991ParticipantAvery Bradley is a hell of a pest. He can guard 1s and 2s. He really is a tremendous defender.

benny15ParticipantPersonally, I like Avery Bradley the most followed by Eric Gordon and Rubio who is a very good over-all defender, not just gambling on passing lanes. George uses his length very well and can guard taller and longer players, but i feel the on ball presure that you feel its hard to dribble going forward isnt as some of the guys on the list, but as mentioned, he might be the best help defender of the bunch. Westbrook can actually be an elite defender, in the same degree as Bradley, but i feel doesnt dominate in that category as consistently as i know he can. and nothing against iman shumpert, who is a good defender, but i feel he uses his hands way too often to my liking on D. swipes for steals to often and depending on the ref, could get into foul trouble.

juslistinParticipantGotta go with these two because they both can guard multiple positions well. They both have the ability to guard almost the 1-3 spots of any line up and matchup, plus their size creates issues for other teams. I think with a few more seasons we will be mentioning these two in the conversation as the top defenders in the league, in guarding the lights of the Wades, Lebrons, Kobes, Durants, Melo and etc.

thparadoxParticipantwhat is the cutoff for a young player? I would add:
Rondo
Ronnie Brewer
Jeff Teague
Mario Chalmers
Kyle Lowry
Brandon Jennings (admittedly was much better in the prior season)

HaleParticipantBradley and George are the two best on that list imo. Imagine if Bradley was 6’6, he might be the best perimeter defender in the NBA if it wasn’t for his size.

derrickrose231Participantok seriously why do people give me negatives just for having an opinion and because i have 180 negatives already.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 06/18/2012 - 10:15am #683290

JustaFanParticipantI’d say toss up between George and Shumpert because it’s hard not to love their effort, size and versatility on the defensive end, Rubio is a dog in the passing lanes moreso than on the ball hound but that Avery Bradley is a flat out PEST… he had Jameer Nelson running from the ball.

HaleParticipantI didn’t neg you, and D-Rose is by far my favorite player, but he isn’t even a good defender. He’s somewhere between average and solid. He can be great at times, but has not proven he can do it consistently (except at the end of games).
0 - Posted on: Mon, 06/18/2012 - 12:49pm #683375
derrickrose231ParticipantHe led the point guards in defensive efficiency in his mvp year
0 - Posted on: Mon, 06/18/2012 - 4:19pm #683541

IndianaBasketballParticipantI think Derrick Rose is a very good defender. He just doesn’t put any pressure on the ball really. He’s not someone who’s going to pressure you and force turnovers.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 06/18/2012 - 4:31pm #683549
mamadouParticipantBledsoe is a monster, a shumpert at the PG spot, damn physical.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 06/18/2012 - 6:05pm #683586

Sewok15ParticipantI didn’t neg you until you started complaining about the negs…take it like a man. The reason people most likely neged you initially is because your username is Derrick Rose something or other then proceeded to name him as a good perimeter defender when he is not that great. You claim to just be voicing your opinion but it comes off incredibly biased and that is frowned upon here.
I love DRose as a player and even as a Sixer fan it killed me to see him blow his knee out in the playoffs but he is nothing special on defense.

amzhr1ParticipantThis Led Perimeter is essential for student.

baggin13ParticipantI wanted to throw a dark horse name out there. Malcom Lee was playing great Defense for the Timberwolves before he went down for the season. Lee has the potential to be a solid perimeter defender, as long as his injuries don’t keep holding him back.
