Here they are with another pick number 1 pick and they aren’t moving forward..  Imagine if they, like most other teams rebuilding, would start all their top picks:

C: Imbiid PF: Okafor SF: Noel SG: Simmons PG: doesn’t matter

Do they make a good move tomorrow night or do they just hoard all these guys that essentially play the same position?

Looking at the last couple of seasons, I’d say they took a massive leap forward. That’s a lot of talent in those 4, not including Saric too. Obviously they’re gonna have to trade someone, but that just means they’ll be getting something of value in return so if they play it right, they’ll be a contender in a few years

Are they better?  They need to move 2 of those bigs. They need a lead guard that carries some respect.  They need direction..  They don’t have any of that.

Hinkie had them going in a direction…that direction was to be the worst team possible and to stockpile good young players and draft picks. That is why they are in the position to draft Ben Simmons. The decade before Hinkie was just a constant fight for the 8th seed with no chances of winning anything significant.

This is the new GM’s first offseason so let’s see what they do before we crush them. The roster wasn’t constructed to win games so it made sense to take the best players available. They obviously know that they need to add shooting around Simmons but they can’t just overpay guards because they desperately need them. They can’t throw max contracts at Mike Conley and Eric Gordon or they will be stuck right back in the position they were before.

They need to develop their young players and see how they play together. Then they can judge exactly what kind of guys to try to sign or trade by 2017 and 2018 when the cap goes way up. Any free agent they bring in this summer they would have to overpay most likely so I look for them to stand pat outside of trying to trade a big guy to attain Kris Dunn.

Good point. A guard like the ones you mentioned would be out of place in Philly. They could use help from some younger ones tho..  Maybe they can give one of the Jazz guards a try.  They seem to have fallen out of favor.  Could trey burkes be had for cheap?  I don’t know if he is the answer but he fills a need.

They have talent, which is more than what they’ve had for a long time. I think after the draft, Colangelo’s direction will be clear

So having discussion has devolved to simply regurgitating the same one over and over again. K

I don’t know how the 76ers are supposed to do. The season ended two days ago. What were people expecting from them?

They’ve got the No. 1 pick. Drafting someone will signify a big step forward. They don’t need to trade two of those bigs. They might need to trade one but even if they don’t, having good big men certainly isn’t a bad thing.

Yeah they need guards, but who are they going to go get? They could probably try to sign a few guys or you could flip one of Noel/Okafor for a guy, which they’ve been rumored to be working on. So what exactly makes them laughable in this case?

"They need direction"…did they not just hire a new GM? Its been like a month. What are you talking about?

Drafting Simmons and trading one of their bigs isn’t moving forward?  I think you’ll feel very embarrased about that statement in one-two years time.

They haven’t done either yet.. If they make those moves, sure, it’s a good step..  But if not, they still suck in a few years..

They have something they never had before: options. They could trade one big or two for guard help. They could stand pat. They could sign a free agent or two. They could trade for more draft picks. They could do any number of things, but what they have now is the option to try things. With the roster as it was constructed in the Bynum era, they were hamstrung and had no options. Now they do.

What exactly was the Bynum era? The guy never even played a game for the Sixers. They made the mistake (the same one they made time and time again bringing in aging or injured former stars like Big Dog, C-Webb and Elton Brand) of trying to reload on the fly instead of rebuilding and as a result it is taking them years to get out of that hole. They could have traded Iggy for the a quality draft pick which could have been Andre Drummond.

If they would have had Drummond on the roster they probably wouldn’t have used 3 of their last high draft picks on a center. I admit I much preferred Okafor to Porzingis going into the draft because I watched Jah play 20+ games and help lead Duke to the national title and knew very little about Porzingis. Could you imagine a front line of Drummond and Porzingis…I would think guards would be lining up to play with them.

By Bynum era, I simply meant the period of time Bynum was on their roster.

And what I meant by no options was exactly what you were saying about retooling on the fly. That was all they were able to do as they had no draft picks or cap space.

Drummond and Porzingis would’ve been an awesome front line. Porzingis provides the spacing Drummond needs in the post. They could’ve made even Philly’s guards look good.

You post like they’ve had an oppurtunity to make moves and haven’t.  The trade window has obviously been closed for months, you should probably wait until after the draft to make such laughable threads.  They will draft Simmons and they will trade one of Okafor/Noel and they’ll be an exciting team going forward.

Long time no see 8th, we missed your annual fantasy draft. Mooch hosted it this year instead, but I’m sure we’d all like you back for the next one.

Philly have three high draft pick frontcourters one of which Embiid has yet to step on an NBA court, Simmons can play as a point forward so can effectively take up the SF space. Saric I’m not sure how he fits in but he’d have good trade value as he’d come over on a 12th pick salary and if they could flip him for a top 10 pick this year then the receiving team gets an NBA ready guy on a lower salary than the position they are drafting at and Philly use acquired pick to take a backcourter.

I can see the 3 man rota of Embiid, Noel and the Oak working quite nicely. Embiid has 3 point and mid range, he’ll be a size mismatch on offence at mid range, Okafor plays the low post role in the paint on offence. Embiid anchors the defence when on court, or Noel does in his absence. Noel defends PF when Embiid is on court and Noel and Embiid play down the stretch when games need to be closed out.
