    So let me get this straight.

    N.W.A., 2Pac, and Biggie make songs about killing cops but they make millions.

    50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and Drake make songs disrespecting women but they make millions.

    An NBA player says something that is completely taken out of context but he gets fined.

    memphistyga,

    When you’re walking down the street or playing ball, and someone says "You suck, f*ckin f*ggot!", do you go up to them and say "Hey man, you shouldn’t say that!!  It’s disrespectful"   (I’m not picking on you in particular, I’m pretty much asking anybody but used you as an example)

    No.  Nobody does that.  So why is it so wrong for NBA players to say it when it is so commonly accepted in society?

    "When you’re walking down the street or playing ball, and someone says "You suck, f*ckin f*ggot!", do you go up to them and say "Hey man, you shouldn’t say that!! It’s disrespectful"

    I would go the Maino route to ask him what he just said to give him a chance to change that sh*t up before I take off on that ass. It’s just certain words that should not be tolerated…..F*ggot, B*tch, S*ck my D&ck etc. Me being the man I am, I am not going for that. You don’t give no one the green light to disrespect you without acting on it. That’s opening the door for EVERYONE to B*tch you, because they will feel like it is alright, because you did not address the issue with the last man. Go to your local jail or penitentiary & see what happen if you call a man outside his name & see how he will deal with the situation.

    Just because rappers use the word does not mean it is okay for an athlete to use it. Athletes are held to a higher standard, because they are ROLE MODELS with the exception of Chuck. Rappers get paid for using derogatory words not athletes. It is not a rappers job to say don’t say what I’m saying or do what I’m doing, because in all actuality they would not be selling theirselves to make their money. I can post a video link to where DRose was with Wale & Wale asked him to speak on the video footage, but Rose was very hesitant to say anything, because he know he was with a rapper which is bad for his image. Although Rose was there, because Wale was having a concert in Chicago once Rose heard Wale using profane language he hurried up off stage.

    I hear you but when I hear someone on the streets call someone else a f*ggot or anything like that, I simply ignore it and go on with my day. The point is, that word is heard so often, that it is almost unfair for athletes to be treated that way.

    Now, there are many older guys on this site that won’t agree with me but guys my age (19) hear and say that word many times in a day. It’s just another word in our vocabulary. Is it right? No. But I, for one, believe the punishment is too much and they are making a big deal out of nothing.

    I understand it’s gonna be said & people are gonna have to deal with hearing it, but when it gets directed towards you, you have to take action on it. Prime example that’s like if Kobe was at your local rec ballin & he called that ref a F*ckin f*ggot & he did not act on it, the next time he came up there he would have a big sign over his head saying come B*tch me, which would not be acceptable at all as a man. I see people at the rec snatch ass all the time, but there is a difference between someone who is a man  & someone who is a boy. A man will not accept anything of that nature, but a boy will sit there & snatch ass all day right along with him.

     The NBA is trying to promote a more tolerant culture as their image as a league.  I think f@g is an inappropriate word to say in a public setting.  No, it’s not the end of the world, but it shouldn’t be said in the context Kobe or Joakim and said it in front of comeras.

    @Tougne-Out-Like23, You’re a great poster, but since you mentioned older guys not agreeing with your stance I’ll just tell you that I’m one of those guys, BUT when I was 19 I said it, much in the same context as guys talking shit, I called my friends f@g’s all the time, but never actually called a gay person the word so I understand someone thinking it’s rarely used to describe or hurt gay people.  But in reality it is, maybe not by you, but it’s used all the time, hate groups like the church lead by Fred Phelps use it, and when you see those signs and they way they use it, it’s very clear it is a hateful word.  As I got older, I realized it wasn’t appropriate to say, and although I never used it to hurt gay people, using that word wasn’t productive or representative of my views on equal rights.

    @JoeWolf1

    I understand what you’re saying and I completely agree.  I think it’s just the fact that I’m young and ignorant.  Now, that’s not an excuse to say and do stupid things, for the most part but when guys like Noah and Kobe used those words, I’m sure they didn’t use it to offend gay people nor did they care/know whether or not the recipient of that word was in fact gay or not.  I’m just pointing out that people are making it bigger than it is supposed to be.

    Just in, he got fined 50k for the slur. Here is the link to the article.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nba/news/story?id=6579408

    In my opinion, why do I care? These words are probably repeated tons of times throught day in an NBA locker room. Why does someone stalk Noah, or Kobe to try to get them busted. However I do believe it is wrong. Ironic how probably right before or after that had just happened, Grant Hill’s anti-gay slur comercial was on.
