There are always players that come out having a better NBA career than anyone can expect.

I’m guessing what player/s can be that "unexpectedly productive, even star, player" in this year’s Draft. I’m targeting players projected out of the lottery (you know, for the "unexpected" thing).

Some examples I can find in previous Drafts:

    2006 NBA Draft:

    – 21st pick: Rajon Rondo

    – 24th pick: Kyle Lowry

    2007 NBA Draft:

    – 48th pick: Marc Gasol

    2008 NBA Draft:

    – 24th pick: Serge Ibaka

    – 25th pick: Nico Batum

    – 35th pick: DeAndre Jordan

    – 45th pick: Goran Dragic

    2009 NBA Draft:

    – 18th pick: Ty Lawson

    – 19th pick: Jeff Teague

    2011 NBA Draft:

    – 15th pick: Kawhi Leonard

    – 16th pick: Nikola Vucevic

    – 30th pick: Jimmy Butler

    – 38th pick: Chandler Parsons

    2012 NBA Draft:

    – 35th pick: Draymond Green

    So… what’s your bet?

Out of the second round, I’d say Christian Wood, Dakari Johnson, or Michael Frazier.  This 538 article showed an interesting array of projections.

I like Brandon Ashley and Quinn Cook to become better players than most are predicting…

Cook looked like he could really get in his man on defense during the combine scrimmages and at times at Duke, and I feel people are sleeping on Brandon Ashley as well… They could both turn out busts, but their my picks for high value for where they’re being projected

How did DJ fall so much in the Draft?

I mean, isn’t it a similar situation this year with Myles Turner and Kelly Oubre? Both of them were like top 5 picks coming out from HS, but none of them is expected to fall that low, are they?

2008 was a stacked draft, the second round in that draft also featured Pekovic, Chalmers, Mbah a Moute, and Goran Dragic.   Jordan has also been a much better rebounder and shot blocker in the pros than he was in college, which is pretty uncommon.  Oubre was ranked comparably to DeAndre, but Turner actually came in with a bit more shine, his potential fall out of the top 10 is more surprising.

i use to be a walker supporter..but i gave up on him after seeing how he performed in those games at the combine…he was awful..combine that with his inconsistent play the past 2 years at florida…i’ll be surprised if he gets drafted..

I think if Oubre lands out of the lottery and lands on a team that invests in his development, he can really be a stud.

I also think people are going to regret passing on Rashad Vaughn and Terry Rozier as well

His ability in pic n roll and his passing is on point. He is a good great shooter and has lethal 1st step and pull up ability. Strong finisher too. Kid could hold his own with any PG prospeft out here, light them up too.

Call me crazy, but if one team drafts Pat Connaughton in the second round, he can be the steal of this year…

its already proven about his underated athleticism and esp post combine out leaping the entire field…but i am not sure he will ever be the key piece that these players listed by the op have become..

my favorite sleeper is ashton pankey the bronx kid played for manhattan

I also think jp tokoto is underated, he is a distributer with great court vision for a forward that also has great athleticism…sort of like rhj only tokoto shoots better than him…not much better ,just doesnt have the same hype

All of Aaron White, Wesley Saunders, Dakari Johnson, and Seth Tuttle seem to be a great value to me, and could see any of them becoming solid players.
