Lafferty DanielParticipantAccording to Jake Fischer, Thaddeus Young requested a formal trade from the Sixers a few weeks ago. Apparently Thad wants to play for a contender and isnt’ down with the whole tanking thing.

I get wanting to play for a contender this year, but would anyone be surprised if the Sixers made the Eastern Playoffs next year? They’ll likely add a couple of top prospects in the draft, and Noel should finally be healthy. I like the direction the Sixers are heading in.

Jayhawks2011ParticipantDo you think the sixers want Asik?
They probably wont get anyone in free agency so the contract wont be that bad. He could help bring Noel back slowling and opens the wing for the sixers for wiggins or parker.
Asik for Thad young?

Wavy BagelsParticipantHe should go to a contending team that has a PG that can create for him and he could use his athleticism to do the little things. Denver maybe? They have enough pieces to make the move.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantThey could make the playoffs but they’re not beating Indy or Miami any time soon. They wouldn’t even get past the Bulls.

vulture711ParticipantEvery NBA player wants to play for a contender. You are under contract – shut up and play

AmiableBaller34ParticipantThad would be the quintessential 6th man off the bench for a contender, because his best stregth is his ability to cause mismatches on the court. I understand were some of these guys are coming from, but I think their is a lesson to learn from basketball history. I look at players like Kobe, Pierce, Wade, and Dirk who could have bailed when the going got tough, but instead they manned up, stayed true to their fans and team, and eventually won a title.
I remember all the Paul Pierce trade rumors, and remember the video where Kobe complains about the Lakers turning down Bynum for JKidd. All teams go through tough stretches where the star player is agitated, but as I’m sure those players will tell you now, it was all worth it. Thad’s not on the level of those guys, but he’s currently the only hold over from the old 76’ers that are turning into the new 76’ers, and he could really step it up and be a leader for the future.

JNixonParticipantAsik for thaddeus young isnt a bad deal IMO. Young is a good matchup ploy off the bench for a team, and he can spot start if needed too.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI think I read some rumors that the 76ers offered Houston that deal but Houston wanted Spencer Hawes.
Terrence Jones and Thaddeus Young are pretty much the same player.

mj23mj23besteverParticipanti dont mind the the thad for asik deal trade helps both teams thad could start over jones at the 4 and as someone mentioned fa arent likely too go too philly so asiks deal isnt that bad he improves the 76rs alot on d

ericw2013ParticipantHowever, Philly dont need to be better this seasson, they need to get a good draft pick. Also, once Noel gets healthy they will have two defensive C and it will stop the developement of Noel, or if they decide to play him, why did you trade for Asik?
Also, Thad Young is not the solution for Houston at the 4 and they could get better players for him.
I like him for Indy… Thad (to be the six man) for Granger and a 2014 or 2015 1st?

HitsterParticipantThad Young for Asik looks a natural straight trade for me. Thad has another twio years on his deal so by getting Asik even with his generous deal next year the 76ers save money. Thad can play some PF alongside D12 and also gives Houston extra SF options. Philly can slide Hawes to PF and create mismatches whilst Asik plays as a defensive anchor at C. Even when Noel gets fit there are still enogh minutes to share around and Noel will need time to develop so playing behind Asik and Hawes will do him no harm.
An interesting point made above about players wanting to be on contenders and asking for trades but still staying put, a lot of the guys mentioned were franchise level guys, Thad Young is a complimentary starter so he is in a totally different boat.

JNixonParticipantThaddeus Young would make the Rockets PF’s better as a unit overall. Terrence Jones, Motiejunas and those guys are barely adequate. They need an upgrade there.
