L.ShapParticipantI can’t exactly pin-point where I heard this (i’ll look for the link) but I read somewhere that people are saying that Thaddeus Young has Danny Granger potential…
Your thought?0 - Posted on: Tue, 09/29/2009 - 1:29pm #217647

L.ShapParticipantthis is where I read it, towards the bottom

JNixonParticipantThaddeus Young reminds me of Antwaan Jamison with less polish..

SlimParticipantI think Carmelo comparisons r better
both are 6’7.5 (draftexpress)
Young is more athletic/better slasher

IndianaBasketballParticipantThat’s a legit comparison Iggy. I can agree with that.
I don’t really see the comparison to Granger or Gay. The ONLY similarity I see between Young and Granger is that they both started out their NBA careers playing the four. I remember when the Pacers drafted Granger and they made him play the four until they were confident in his ability to handle on the perimeter. Granger still plays a lot of four today. I see that in Young also. He played a lot of four during his rookie season, but I see him transitioning to being a full time three and playing the four during some stretches of the game.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantYoung just isnt the shooter that Granger is. He may develop that but, he isnt there yet. I can see the comparison because of their quite demeanor and their aggressive play.

llperezThey are not even in the same conversation as shooters. And shooting means a LOT in this league. Granger’s biggest strength might be his shooting right now. Young’s biggest weakness might be his shooting right now. That’s a pretty big contrast in differences right there.

Michael.S.ParticipantAl Thornton?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 09/29/2009 - 3:14pm #217699

L.ShapParticipantYeah that’s what I thought, I mean his shooting has improved, but it won’t get to the level of Granger’s obviously. I kindof see Jamison but Young is more of a small forward. Jamison is more of a four

JNixonParticipantYoung is a 4 to me. He shows no perimeter skills when he plays. He’s a poor passer, handler, and a shooter. He is better the closer he is to the rim like a PF is. He needs more perimeter skills to be a pure SF to me

Henry25ParticipantJamison??? That’s just disrespectful to Thaddeus. Young has the potential to be a point-forward type with his ability to handle the ball and he’s a pretty decent passer as well. He is also wayyyyy more athletic than Jamison. I see him as a more polished, and slightly less explosive version of Josh Smith. Both of them are long lefties, who can rebound, pass, and play good defense. Young is a much better shooter and scorer than Smith, whil Smith is a freakshow type of an athlete who lacks polish to his game

llperezhenry, I can see the Josh Smith comparison, but you shouldn’t be so hard on Jamison. You make it sound like being compared to a multiple all-star is a slap in the face. Young has some work to do if he wants to have the quality of career that Jamison has put together.

Henry25Participantyeah i guess, i just think young has the potential to be so much better than Jamison, plus I’m just not a Jamison/Wizards fan. Jamison can play, dont get me wrong, I’m just really high on Thaddeus Young and i think he is the 2nd best up and comin small forward behind Kevin Durant. The Princeton offense is going to do wonder for Young’s game and I see averages of about 19ppg, 7rpg, 3apg, and maybe a block and a steal per game as well. I think eventually Young will develop into the Sixers #1 option offense, as I think he is a pure scorer and I’m much high on him than Andre Iguodala as the Sixers franchise player. Iguodala is a great sencong option, but I think Young has star player written all over him

youngmagParticipantWhy ya’ll dissin Jamison he is so underrated he might not play no defense but he scores and get rebounds a legit 20 and 10 a night. Anyways Thaddeus plays nothin like Granger and Granger got drafted as a SG/SF so idk if he ever played the 4 but I would say he plays more like a quick rookie version of Pierce I believe. He is a legit 3 can play the 4 but his best position is the 3.

JNixonParticipantHe a similar player to Josh Smith in terms of strengths and weaknesses, but they dont share similar tendencies. Josh Smith relies exclusively on athleticism to score, while Thad uses a basic post game, mid-range spot ups (which he’s pretty reliable with now), loose balls and fast breaks. Smith only is consistent in one of those areas and that’s fast break scoring. Also Young has a higher bball IQ, he rarely goes out of his element. Smith is a HORRIBLE ball-handler and shooter, but its not unordinary to see him run the ball up court or shoot 20 foot shot that he almost always misses.
I dont get why people think Young has 1st option ability. Sure he has upside, but as a guy that alway watches him play he doesnt have a true position and he is underdeveloped from the perimeter. He has the potential to be a 3rd option offensively, if he polishes his perimeter game or bulks up to make it more evident what position he is.

lalailaParticipantmaybe Caron BUtler?

PureshooterParticipantPeople are forgetting what a beast Jamison was when he was 20:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0aTb3l6G7c
He didn’t have the vert of Thaddeus Young, but he got off the floor very quickly. Jamison didn’t really refine his perimeter game until he got into the league.

joecheck88Participanti like the caron butler comparison, he was compared to paul pierce on this website before the draft. He needs to work on his shooting alot, if he can get a consistent mid range game going(17-20ft) he could be a huge matchup problem for alot of teams.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/30/2009 - 8:14am #217838
youngmagParticipantI was thinkin Caron also but Caron can do everything on the floor Thadues really isn’t that great of a passer.
0- Posted on: Wed, 09/30/2009 - 8:33am #217843
SlimParticipantneeds to work on his court vvision more
and initiating the fast break
the 76ers staff said they were working with him on that
but then who’s running the wing?0
- Posted on: Wed, 09/30/2009 - 8:38am #217846
youngmagParticipantAndre Miller helped him out a lot on the breaks and get his points..

the microwaveParticipantThaddeus Young in his rookie season, was only 19… 2nd youngest player at the time in the lg.. 2nd to Durant… SO hes got time to grow.. His biggest deficiency is his ball handling.. he was over a 40 % 3 pt shooter for most of last season, until a slump.. In addition in high school he was a CENTER.. In college he slid over to the 3 (not the easiest adjustment)…. So basically he has been on the wing for roughly 4 years MAXIMUM.. For what hes doing with little time playing the position is phenomenal in my eyes.. he will eventualyl be a natural 3 man, but right now he is a 3/4..
HANDS down othr than maybe brand (assuming we get the brand of old), no one is a better scoring option on philly than Thad.. I watch all my sixers games, his growth has been 2nd to none on philly. i dont know if hes ever gonna be Danny granger, but he will be a great player in his own right. Give him time.
Defensively hes decent, but shard / Turk had their way with him in the playoffs. He will hav to improve there as well, if he wants to be one of the best.
I dont know if i have a comparison for him, but his around the basket skills r superb do to his extensive time playing under the rim as a youngster.. He needs to develop his right hand as well

JNixonParticipantCaron Butler is a bad comparison. Butler is much better at every aspect of his game, even back to the basket scoring. They literally do nothing alike. At all. Not even the same tendencies. All of Young weaknesses are Butler’s strengths and the only thing Thad has over him is athleticism and youth.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/30/2009 - 10:51am #217878

llperezyeah, the butler comparison has no merit at all.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/30/2009 - 11:41am #217900

Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipantwhat about shawn marion, he does everything good, defends, rebounds, can score inside, somewhat shoot the 3
0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/30/2009 - 4:05pm #217992

JNixonParticipantI can respect the Shawn Marion comparison. They both have very unorthodox games..understanable.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/30/2009 - 4:27pm #217996
youngmagParticipantThats why I didn’t want to do the Caron but I thought about it…Marion is a good comparison though except I thing Thadues is a better iso player than Marion.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/01/2009 - 4:38am #218094
joecheck88Participantyes caron butler is better, but he has been in the league for 6 years now. caron wasn’t caron until he was about 24 or 25 years old. Thaddeus is maybe 22 and like was said before has been plaing on the wing for a short period of time. My point was he could be like a Caron Butler in the future.
