I think we are in for a treat in 2020, if not 2016, when it comes to Olympic basketball.  Canada will have a very talented team.  Look at this pool of players that could grow together:

    Kelly Olynyk/Robert Sacre/Khem Birch/Jordan Bachynski

    Tristan Thompson/Andrew Nicholson/Dwight Powell

    Andrew Wiggins/Anthony Bennet/Melvin Ejim

    Nick Stauskas/Oliver Hanlin/Brady Heislip

    Tyler Ennis/Corey Joseph/Kevin Pangos

While it’s obviously no Dream Tream, that is a very talented team that could blossom very soon.  International basketball will be very interesting.

Stauskas was made for International basketball. He’d hit those shorter 3pt shots with his eyes closed.

I think Canada could be a top 3 international team. I also like Australia with Dante Exum, Ben Simmons, Thon and Matur Maker, Deng Adel as well as the current NBA’ers Patty Mills, Matthew Dellavedova, Andrew Bogut and Aaron Baynes.

Trey Lyles and Monta Gill-Caesar for Canada too.

Also, you can add Jonah Bolden to the Australia list.

Just another reason (along with Lowrys free agency) why Ennis would be a perfect fit for the Raptors at #20

Don’t forget Xavier Rathan-Mayes of Florida State who sat out this year after not qualifying to play

Steve Nash spoke about Team Canada when being interviewed on the BS Report. He’s going to play a major role in the team’s coaching and may even take a roster spot for 2016…. which he probably shouldn’t.

Either way, it’s rare for a naitonal team besides the USA to have that caliber of wing players.

Unless Wiggins becomes a superstar, that team is awful…. Sorry to all those Canadian homers who will disagree

Don’t forget about Bennett too, yeah he was pretty bad last year but he could turn it around next season. He could end up playing on the Canadian squad

There’s not really a reason to not like that Canada team, even if Wiggins doesn’t become a superstar. In international basketball, the creation of shots is made through ball movement (a-la Pop) instead of going for isos. As someone mentioned earlier, Stauskas game is tailor-made for international basketball.

France, Serbia, Croatia has some quality talent for international play as well. I’m sure Spain and Italy will have some guys who develop in Europe as well.

Call me a hater, but there really isn’t much to see here. Wiggins is the only guy on the team who has the potential to be anything more than just an NBA role player. Bennett, Thompson, Ennis, those guys are mediocre at best.

And as far as the rest of the team goes, I know you have heard of those guys from American college basketball, but they are no better than the supporting players most of the top European teams have.

I actually find the future Australian team to be more interesting. The potential for more actual NBA talent on that roster.
