crazyqx83Participant…a colossal mistake. You have 3 PGs in the top of this draft, none of whom have much separation over the other 2, and 2 of them will be available with the 4th pick. Cleveland needs to take Kanter or Williams with the #1 overall pick… or they can risk taking a PG #1 then having the next best player that’s available at #4 be another PG or somebody like Kawhi Leonard or Marcus Morris. The Cavs can still get a big time fail with this draft.
just like big men in the 80s, NBA teams are falling in love with the idea that having a great PG is the best way to make it to the promise land. Irving is as primed to be this generations version of Derrick Coleman as anything.
Just like always, NBA GMs are out thinking themselves. Players like Duncan, Gasol and Nowitzki have been the REAL catalysts to championship runs the past 10 years. You take Kanter.

sheltwon3ParticipantI agree. He appears to be the best by a slight margin and he hasnt played much. Knight reminds me of how Rose took some time to get it in college but when he did, he was a key contributor. I think Knight would be the number 1 pick if Kanter had played for Kentucky.

akhan786ParticipantYeah if you don’t take Irving I believe you take Kanter number one.
I believe there’s at least 3 better wings than Derrick Williams in next year’s draft so draft your big man and a point guard this year and try to get a high draft pick next year as well to nab Perry Jones, Barnes, Gilchrist, or even Quincy Miller.

AllDayyyParticipantHuge gap between Irving/Knight and Walker

crazyqx83ParticipantI disagree with the huge gap between Knight/Irving and Walker comment. Although I’m a UK grad and huge BK fan, Walker has just as many NBA skills as those other two. What he lacks in size he more than makes up for in toughness and resolve.

ilike.panochasParticipantHawks made a mistake of picking Marvin Williams over CP3. If Irving is indeed just that, then I think you take him at #1, Kanter may still be there at #4 if Derrick Williams is gone.

apb540ParticipantI like that everyone is finally coming around on Kanter. Williams is a tweener and Irving is rather unproven. Why not take a chance on an unproven Center instead of a SF or PG?

mrhancocParticipantI don’t think Kyrie light years ahead of the other guys but I think he would be the best pick. We all know that SF/PF come a dime a dozen (Kanter & Williams), you only get a few changes at getting a really good PG even if it’s a scoring PG that can distribute the ball when needed
But the only problem I can from picking Kyrie #1 is if Brandon Knight his still there at the #4 pick,
so then what do you do, easy!, trade the pick for a top 5 pick next year

TyroberParticipantI have never thought Irving was the for sure #1 pick. I like him and Kanter for the Cavs and Williams + Knight.

JNixonParticipantTaking Irving would be alot smarter than doing anything else. Here’s why.
Taking Kanter would be worse because as much as people criticize Irving for not playing, Kanter REALLY hasn’t played much against quality competition.
Taking Knight wouldn’t give the Cavs a greater chance of either improvement or immediate success. Knight is bigger than Irving, but he’s not as much of a PG and anyone who watched UK last year saw that Knight still has substantial polish to add to his game. He hasn’t figured out how to run a team and score efficiently at the same time against quality opposition. When he became less turnover prone and more of a floor general, he didn’t shoot well down the stretch against the better teams largely. When he scored the ball well, he struggled with decision making and was a turnover machine at the beginning of the year and early in the conference slate. Irving showed quality PG skills and scoring skills against all the teams he faced. He’s better than Knight. Knight is still a work in progress. He will be good, but he’s going to have a learning curve.
Kemba Walker isn’t a franchise PG. He’s similar to a pre-injury Jonny Flynn. Sure he has a will to win and he did some heavy lifting for UConn, but Jeremy Lamb and Napier both grew up at the right time as well. He’s not a true PG, although he can make plays for others at time. He seems likely to struggle with effiiciency to me, just as he struggled with it during the conference slate.
Derrick Williams is a scorer who can rebound pretty good and is a combo forward. He will struggle on D because he doesn’t quite defend any of the positions he plays on offense well. Not quick enough to defend the standard NBA SF, and not big or tough enough to defend the standard NBA PF. It would be silly to take a combo forward who scores over a pure PG.

mrhancocParticipantor trade em for 2 picks next year lol
But 1 thing is for sure, if the Cavs take Kanter or Williams #1. Irving nor Williams will be there for the 4th pick, Im sure of that!

ryan27ParticipantWhy does it seem like people are coming out and saying bad things about Irving now? I’m a UNC fan, so I dont particularly like Irving, but he is pretty clearly a better prospect than the other pgs in this draft (and arguably every else in it too). Even though he may not have the crazy athleticism or speed of a John Wall or Derrick Rose, he is an incredibly well-rounded player and does everything you want your pg to do: great shooter, good passer, good ballhandler, good defender, and he’s got good size for an NBA pg (measured out the same height as Brandon Knight at the combine).
Sure, he may not be the game-changing type player you really want for the number 1 pick, but there isnt anyone in this draft who fits that description. There is a reason everyone has been talking about him as the #1 pick since everyone declared.

aamir543ParticipantWait, so if Cleveland, doesn’t take Iring……………….David Kahn will get his wish. Oh my, Rubio, Flynn, and Irving on the same team! I want to programe my TV, I pod, computer, and ears to not recieve any notificarions about the T wolves for a year. Its just too painfull to watch.

See what happened to this guy, he used to be a T wolves fan.
