Can anyone else see parallels between the current T-Wolves team and the Thunder circa 2008/09. Both sides had/are having heavy losing seasons but they both became much more competitive as the season went on.

The Thunder started the season 3-29 but then went 20-30 to end up at 23-59 before exploding to a 50-32 season in 2009/10. The T-Wolves are currently 27-52 but have been 7-7 in more recent games.

It would be a big ask for the T-Wolves to add 20 plus wins next ear but I could certainly see them getting to near .500. They have already improved by 11 wins on 2014/15 so a similar jump is surely well within reach.

I have said the same thing. I like the way this team is being. Built a little bit more. Wiggins lavine and towns is gunna be one hell of a big 3 in a few years. Hopefully the hang on to Rubio and don’t make lavine something he’s not by forcing him to play the point.

I’m going to reluctantly say Yes.

Reluctantly because I’ve seen them struggle for so long….yet their talent is at an all-time high.

They won the lottery in the right year with KAT and got a great trade for K Love. I liked the LaVine pick too. So part luck, part skilled front office work.

I see the similarities between the T wolves and the Thunder. Great young core with the potential to be a dynasty in the near future. But also a team that could be starting over once again in a few years…..

I’ve said it before on here, but how likely will we be able to keep this young group together? KAT and Wiggins both seem like players that could stick with the small market team. Lavine on the other hand, still seems like he would want to be on a LA, Chicago or NY team. If they add one more "star" in this year’s draft, will there be enough minutes for all four to reach their potential? How will we pay for all of their second contracts when they all come year after year after year?

You pay for their second contracts by going over the salary cap and going for broke.

What OKC should have done….these NBA teams are all rich…its nothing to them if a title is at stake.

A contending team will easily make that money back in other ways…Cleveland isn’t a big market but has the highest payroll. They’re far from struggling financially though.

People in Minnesota talk about this constantly and it drives me crazy. If you talked to the casual Wolves fan they would tell you it’s a forgone conclusion that Wiggins is going to Toronto after his rookie deal. I think people overlook the fact that those three guys are very close and as they get older I think they’ll realize how lucky they are to have two other guys their age all being that talented. Not to mention KG has said multiple times he is always telling these guys the only thing that could break them up is if they let egos get in the way (similar to the KG-Steph falling out). Also, all three of their styles of play compliment each other so well it’s not like that will be an issue. Is it possible the core gets broken up at some point, of course. But right now I’d say it’s more likely they will want to stay together.

I don’t know if they’ll have the huge jump like OKC did because as good as their young guys are, I don’t see any of them being on the level that Kevin Durant was at when they won 50 games (30.1 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 26.2 PER). I still could definitely see this team approaching that 43-45 win total next year and continue to rise up from there. Even if they ultimately lose LaVine to a larger market, a duo of Towns and Wiggins looks like it will carry them to elite status for years to come. I was a big fan of what OKC did when they drafted Durant, Green, Westbrook, and Harden and feel the same way about the guys Minnesota has drafted. Hopefully Minny has the guns to breakthrough and win a title in the next 7-10 years.

Have you ever heard of Karl Anthony Towns or Andrew Wiggins?

Yeah………..that’s why I said both of their names in my post. I just don’t think that their 2016-17 seasons will be on par with what Kevin Durant did in the 2009-10 season when OKC had their big breakthrough. That being said, I think both Wiggins and Towns will be better than Westbrook was in 2009-10.

but with the continual increase of the salary cap….they can probably keep their core 3 together (Wiggins, Towns, LaVine)  maybe keeping Rubi, Muhammad, and Dieng could be an issue but wow are they set up…..I want luck to go there way and them to get Simmons it be the best core ever….if they stay at 6 I hope they grab Sabonis

Big Twolves fan here.  I have seemed so much bad things happened, I am very excited about the future. I actually think we will make the playoffs next year.

BUT, I am very worried about who owner Glen Taylor will hire to be the GM and Head Coach.  He is the guy who hired David Kahn.  I also do not want Kevin McHale either.

Also, I am waiting for KAT to tear an ACL or something.

However, the future is looking bright right now.  KAT, Wiggins, LaVine, Shabazz, Rubio, and Dieng are a nice young nucleus.  I am not sold on Tyus Jones or Nemanja Bjelica yet.  Bjelica would be a great stretch 4.

I have posted this a while back. I believe the TWOLVES are one of the most talented young teams in the league. KAT is performing perhaps even better than I thought he would as a rookie. Wiggins and Lavine make for great athletic Wings.

these players alone will get better and thus make the Wolves better as they grow. BUT what if the TWolves can add another good player (lottery pick) add 1 good FA, and hire someone like “Tibs” as HC.

There is definitely a great future in Twolves land.

My dream would be draft buddy and sign horford. Obviously a lot would have to happen (getting rid of Kg and Pek’s contract and horford actually wanting to come to Minnesota) for that to work but if it happened I think this is no doubt a playoff team.

A more likely scenario would be drafting a solid player with the lotto pick and signing an average vet to come off the bench. If that’s the case I’d say 40-45 wins is a good goal.

Yeah, 40 to 45 wins and being between 10th and 7th in the west would be a successful year. A good coach is worth at least 5 wins over sam mitchell. Throw in the development of all their young players and Rubio working on his three pointer that is another 5 wins at least. If they add a younger veteran and draft a PG/SG and PF/C. They will be in good shape.
