I just heard a rumor that Kings wouldn’t take Jeffries unless Knicks put David Lee in the deal.
So I guess this works since the Kings keep their cap room

Hold on to your hats, per Marc Stein, there are more changes. If I’m reading correctly, it sounds like the Knicks are giving up far too much.

The Knicks will acquire McGrady and Sergio Rodriguez from Sacramento, sources said.

The Rockets get Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill and Jared Jeffries from New York and will have the right to swap first-round picks with New York in 2011 as well as take on New York’s 2012 first-round pick.

Sacramento obtains Houston’s Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey and New York’s Larry Hughes

The Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks have agreed to terms that will expand the Houston-Sacramento deal into a three-way trade that lands Tracy McGrady with the Knicks, according to NBA front-office sources.

MagikKnick, per ESPN, the message I posted above was from Marc Stein. In this scenario, Jordan Hill and possibly two number one draft choices going out the door for the Knicks.

The Knicks will acquire McGrady and Sergio Rodriguez from Sacramento.

The Rockets get Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill and Jared Jeffries from New York and will have the right to swap first-round picks with New York in 2011 as well as take on New York’s 2012 first-round pick.

All I have to say is: NY better get 2 good players in 2010 offseason. We gave up Hill, 2 lottery picks, Nate for 22 mil cap space, Sergio ( who should be a 12 point, 10 assist guy in Dantoni’s system), Cap Space from Boston and Bill Walker

TOUGH TO BE A KNICKS FAN, IT’S LIKE EATING NAILS WITH POISONOUS TIPS….but yet, somewhere along my thinking- I will continue to support this team. I need help.

Think of everything he’s done since taking over for Isiah Thomas… It’s been a messy job and he’s made a few errors, but he’s done an amazing job.

Rodriguez could be a great fit for NY. If he doesn’t do good here, I give up on ever thinking he can be a true NBA PG. Also, mark my words, giving up on Jordan Hill will make NY somewhat regret it. He’ll be a good starter in the NBA before long. Expect a 15 and 9 season somewhere down the line. No matter how good Sergio Rodriguez is, he’ll never be able to have that level of productivity, even in this system or with stats that better correlate to PG production.

The Knicks were raped here, basically. Again

Sergio Rodriguez could be good for the Knicks. He’s a better player in D’Antoni’s system than Duhon. He can pass better and he plays no defense (the thing that held him back in all the teams that he played on, but D’Antoni wouldn’t care).

He could have a breakout second half for the Knicks.

Feel bad for the Knicks fans, but at least, the rebuilding has finally begun.

The Knicks look like they’ve gotten raped as of right now because the summer has yet to come. IF they’re able to land two max deal free-agents or even one max deal and an all-star caliber free-agent, they will have gotten the better end of this deal.

How is this worse than the Marbury or McDyess deal they gave up a huge expiring contract to get Marbury and had to take on Penny Hardaway too. Theh McDyess deal was awful becaz he got hurt and the pick they lost was huge.
They were awful in 05 and 07, 08 and didn’t finish in the top 5 with the draft.
If they sign one big name guy and keep Lee they will be much better than this year’s team.
Who knows what the draft will be in 2012, you guys probably know a little how the 2011 is.

    Reported earlier

The deal involving Houston and Sacremento could have stood alone, but was designed as an avenue to steer McGrady to New York in a three-team deal if all demands could be met. One of those details that has yet to emerge is the level of protection New York ultimately will require on their 2011 and 2012 first-round picks. The Knicks were discussing the right to swap 2011 first-rounders with Houston, which would get the Knicks’ 2012 No. 1 pick depending on where it falls in the draft.

Depending on the protection parameters, the Knicks may have paid a steep price to clear Jeffries’ $6.9 million contract off the 2010-11 books. But doing so all but accomplished the goal team president Donnie Walsh set out to achieve when he came to New York — become a major player in the 2010 free-agent class, recognized by all involved as potentially the best in NBA history. By shedding Jeffries, Walsh will have only four players under contract for ’10-’11 — Eddy Curry, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, and Toney Douglas. The Knicks are a Curry buyout away from having the space to sign two max players. If those free agents prefer the sign-and-trade route — which would get them more money and an extra year — the Knicks are positioned to accommodate that as well.

Very true. I agree. This could end up like the Memphis-LA deal, where New York/Memphis got the short end of a supposedly lopsided deal, only got have player development or free agency in this case make the deal look less and less like a highway robbery.

damn i didnt know they gave up draft picks as well. this deal could turn out to be pretty bad if mcgrady doesnt turn out to be like his old self and the free agents stay with there team( other then amare and boozer). at least with the steph deal you knew he was a good player and he actually played very well for the knicks at first.

What has Walsh done thats been so great, the Clippers moved Randolph so it couldn’t have been too tough.
Crawford was moved by the Warriors too and they gave up Harrington to the Knicks becaz Nelson and him didn’t work.

He drafts Gallo over Brook Lopez was terrible, though Gallo has had a much better year than his rookie season still he’s not a franchise Center.
This year he passed on how many PG’s for Jordan Hill than he trades him away.
He also bought a pick and used it on Tony Douglas instead of moving up for Collison, Lawson he also could’ve drafted Blair to give them some rebounding help.

For this trade he should’ve made the Rockets take on Eddy Curry not Jeffries, the picks lost could’ve been used as trading chips to get a PG. The Knicks will be much better in 2011 and 2012 as long as they get 1 elite player and keep Lee.

I don’t expect another decade of badness. I want to hope NY does well. We will have a boatload of cap space to play with for not only in 2010 but 2011 as well.

Now were able to sign 2 max players this offseason. I don’t think we will but say we walk into 2010 with cap space plus Curry’s exp deal?

I do believe we could have made more of a splash but hey, what can you say? We just need to look and add more players. I hope we bring back Sergio, Walker for next season. I think they might be some decent pieces.

Right now? I believe Bosh and Gay should be our main targets

There is still a good chance that this trade would work out like the LAL/MEM trade as long as the Knicks are able to acquire good players this offseason.

I think LBJ is a long shot for the Knicks as the Cavs has a really good shot at the Championship. Even if the Cavs don’t win it all, I don’t think LBJ would leave his hometown with such a solid team.

The Knicks would have a good shot at getting DWade and Bosh though. The Heat hasn’t done much to keep Wade happy and Bosh may leave Toronto if the Raptors can’t make the 2nd round again this year. I can already see a S&T with Bosh to NYK for Danillo already (BC loves Italians). The Knicks can also go after Joe Johnson and Amare.

I don’t think Boozer would fit in with D’Antoni’s system, so Walsh better not going that path.

Anyone else to be considered top players that the Knicks may target?

Well, I am upset we got rid of Hill, and upset about the protection on the draft picks. Though, if the Knicks can obtain Joe Johnson, CB4/Boozer/Amar’e/or resign Lee then things can be good, also the Knicks can always buy a draft pick if they want someone. Donnie has done wonders so far in New York, I believe in the end we’ll look back on this as a good trade.

Walsh walked into Isiah’s mess. The Knicks were one of the worst teams in the league with one of the highest payrolls in the league. They were going nowhere and you couldn’t even see the light at the end of the tunnel. There was no talk about landing a max deal free-agent before he got there. If it wasn’t for Walsh, you don’t have that picture of LeBron James in a Knicks jersey as your profile picture.

While Jordan Hill and Kevin Martin are more talented players than Carl Landry with more potential. They lack the intangibles that Carl Landry possess, that playing hard to til the whistle mantra. Yes, I do believe Houston made a mistake for Carl Landry and will miss his toughness of the bench if they do happen to make the playoffs.

And even though Randolph and Crawford have done a complete 180 since they were traded from the Knicks… They were VERY difficult to trade during that time since they had multiple year contracts worth a lot of money. Walsh traded them both in one day and cleared up $27 million for the summer of 2010.

Many GM’s considered Randolph’s contract untradable. Not only did Walsh trade him, he got back Mobley who’s contract has been covered by insurance.

NOT TOO BAD OF A TRADE FOR HOUSTON BECAUSE THEY STILL HAVE SCOLA. yes landry is good but i dont think it hurts them that much because they have scola as well as chuck. the knicks could end up looking good but its all on hopes of maybes with the free agent class. there moves arent that bad when you are looking long term , which some knick fans arent really looking at. alot of the fans are viewing short term when the knicks arent a short term fix. chances are that its gonna take years not months or a year before the knicks get to there goal of being a good team that makes the playoffs every year

Well said. The Knicks are still rebuilding I think they can compete for the playoffs in the 2011-12 season, and possibly next season depending on who they get. I have continued saying this if Joe Johnson and Mike D’antoni have no ill will then that’s who the Knicks should get if Wade and LBJ fail. After that either resign Lee or do a sign and trade with Toronto for Chris Bosh if Toronto is unwilling to give CB4 a max contract. I am hoping with the Knicks early 2nd round pick they can get a Center who can start right away or contribute right away at least (Jerome Jordan crosses my mind). If all breaks right a starting 5 can be PG-Joe Johnson-Gallo-CB4-Center. Not bad if you ask me.

Just becaz he’s done better than Isiah mean very lil, most Gm’s could’ve done that.
The fact that his draft history has been uneven lately with the Knicks and Pacers is alarming.
A lot of Gm’s have dumped salary its a lot easier when the other team is looking to dump a player.
Dealing with the Warriors and Clips Gm’s not like dealing with Jerry West.
Look what the Warriors got for Stephen Jackson.

Its not just about making salary dumps, what else has he done outside of the 3 cap saving deals.
Other teams have shed contract like the Bulls, Nets.

Knicks cutting payroll is only for cap purposes they’ve never been a team shy with spending even before Isiah.

Those were three huge cap saving deals though lol. Randolph, Crawford and Jeffries combine to equal almost $35 million in cap space just in time for the greatest free-agency class in NBA history. I disagree with most GM’s being able to do what he did. I don’t remember a lot of GM’s jumping up to take the Knicks job.

It’s easy to criticize draft picks, but the truth of the matter is it’s still too early to make a judgement. It’s also hit and miss.

    – There are only two players I would’ve selected ahead of Gallinari in the 2008 draft and they are Brook Lopez and Eric Gordon. I honestly believe Gallinari is going to be a very good player though.

    – They did miss out on Jennings, but so did seven or eight other teams. Nobody knew Jennings would be as good as he’s been. Every other GM passed up on Blair in the first round too. The kid is playing great this season, but he doesn’t have any ACL’s. If Walsh would’ve taken him in the first round and he blew out his knees during the first half of the season, you’d have been the first person to jump up and say Walsh was stupid for drafting a player with knee problems.

Give the man his due… Like I said… If not for him, you don’t have a picture of LeBron James in a Knicks jersey as your profile picture.

Donnie Walsh has not made any bad moves, the Jazz getting the Knicks 1st round is from the Isiah Thomas administration which was apart the Stephon Marbury trade back in 2004. Also, the Knicks are on the right track, maybe in 3-5 years we can say that others were better than Gallo, but right now it can’t be said.

The Knicks are clearly in rebuilding mode. They gave up some pieces, but I feel like they finally have a clean slate… A fresh start.

If they don’t land two superstar free-agents this summer, they’ll turn their attention to the summer of 2011, which also has some solid free-agents. I think a lot of people are also sleeping on the fact that they could use Curry as a trade piece next season. His $11+ million expiring contract will receive some attention.

Those picks won’t be as good as this year’s lottery pick going to the Jazz for sure.
If they don’t get Lebron and end up with Bosh and Joe Johnson thats still a good move.

The Rockets for next year if they make no more moves and resign Scola

    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/Budinger
    Ariza/Battier
    Scola/Jeffries/Hill
    Yao/Hayes/Anderson

    2010 draft pick

and an extra picks in 2012 they are looking pretty good.

Walsh draft history in the 2000-2010 decade was

The 1st rounders: Jordan Hill, Tony Douglas, Danilo Gallinari, Danny Granger, Fred Jones, Primoz Brezec, David Harrison, Shawne Williams
2nd rounders: Jaquay Walls, Jamison Brewer, James Jones, Rashad Wright, Erazem Lorbek, Alexander Johnson

People just seem to remember him drafting Antonio Davis, Dale Davis, Rik Smits, Reggie Miller that was back in 87, 88, 90 and 91. Since than his best picks were Harrington and Granger and not much else.

Don’t forget he drafted Dampier 10th over Nash, Kobe, J’Oneal, Fisher, Peja and Big Z
He’s been bad drafting since the Davis picks in the early 90’s.

I’m not the biggest Brandon Jennings fan but how good would the Knicks look with Jennings and Brook Lopez on the team.

I was talking about the players that were drafted AFTER Gallo that the Knicks could’ve selected.

There are only two guys that I’d have taken over him, which are Lopez and Gordon. My point is, is that the Knicks took the closest to the best player available.

Y’all are really slipping. Gallinari will be one of the best scorers in the NBA in the future. Sure they could’ve gotten guys who are better now and a few that will be better in the future, but they really won’t regret their decision to take him as much as y’all are making it seem.

It’s easy to list a bunch of players and say they were bad picks, but you didn’t even list when they were picked or what players were picked after them lol. A lot of those picks are from when the Pacers were contenders in the East. They usually drafted late in the first round.

We can lay out the resumes of every GM and there’ll be bumps and bruises. There’s no exact science to drafting players. It’s honestly hit and miss.

Picking Granger at 17 in 2005 though was an absolute steal lol. We wanted Granger the whole time too.

Al Harrington at 25 in 1998 was a solid pick too. We got Travis Best at 23 in 1995.

If you look at the players drafted after our picks, besides in 1996, there weren’t any big time players drafted afterwards. I mean, Carlos Boozer went in the 2nd round (34th) in 2002. We picked Fred Jones at 14 that year. I guess you can blame Walsh for that too lol. I mean, the draft is hit and miss though.

I would like to see the Knicks buy a 1st round pick like they did last year and go for a center Jerome Jordan is at the top of my list of a guy worth taking in the late first round. I would like to see the Knicks try drafting Sherron Collins or Scottie Reynolds with one of there 2 2nd round picks. I would not mind the Knicks starting 5 next season being Toney Douglas-Joe Johnson-Gallo-CB4-Jerome Jordan with a bench of Wilson Chandler, Sergio Rodriguez, Sherron Collins, Eddie House maybe, Eddy Curry, and a few more bench spots.

Buying their way into the first round is definitely a possibility. They have the money to do it.

Listen, let’s stop ripping Donnie Walsh…please

The man walked into hell with NO light, NO chances and turned this team around. It may not say that in the result of a playoff berth, championship or successful seasons but the man is making moves. As for the past? Walsh never was the balliest GM but he always kept a bend down brake style and made the good move. People forget that Pacer team made the playoffs every year in the 90’s except 94. He got Indy to a finals in 2000. He made good moves but never THE move because he was never in position to make THE move.

In NY, he got rid of all the bad contracts and actually brought NY fans some hope. Isiah didn’t do that and Layden sure as hell didn’t. I expect Walsh to produce something in 2010 because we have all this cap space, we will probably buy a 1st rounder and look at FA. With Eddy Curry’s contract and some teams looking to stay under the cap- Walsh might pull a rabbit out the hat and add a 1st rounder for 2012. Wait and See

I’m knocking his picks thats all.

Not sure how highly he though of Jordan Hill now anywayz if he traded him.
To me guys are overrating Hill to say he’s going to be like Amare or an All Star I don’t see it.
He has a nice jump shot and can run the floor not much else, he doesn’t rebound, defend and fouls a lot.
Lets see how he does in Houston since Laundry is gone and Yao is out he should get some minutes.

Just because he did will college means nothing now the game is totally diff. in the pros.
He struggled in the summer league, preseason and most of the season.
He was a nice spark off the bench in a couple of games thats all.
He got 32 mins the last 2 nights total against Taj Gibson and Tyrus Thomas not exactly 2 All Star and Noah was out.
    His line
    32 mins 1-7 fg, 4-6 fts, 6 rebs, 2 to’s, 0 block, 0 stls.6 pts, 4 fouls.
