AP-BKN–Suns-Griffin Suns sign 2nd-round pick Taylor Griffin

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns have signed second-round pick Taylor Griffin to a contract.

Griffin, the older brother of first overall pick Blake Griffin, averaged 9.6 points and 5.8 rebounds as a senior at Oklahoma. Terms of the deal Monday were not disclosed.

The forward averaged 6.2 points, 3 rebounds and one steal in five games for the Suns in the Las Vegas Summer League.

Agree, he’s not an NBA player. I must say this though. If he put 6-3 up in the summer league, he possible could give them a small bench player like how Glen Davis started out. I doubt this will happen, but yeah to me its a possibility.

I definitely agree he isnt an NBA player. The Suns do this all the time: Alando Tucker, DJ Strawberry, Pat Burke and Taylor Griffin are all people off the top of my head that have gotten guaranteed deals for the Suns but arent NBA level players.

Ha ha I JUST noticed that on the schedule. They may cut him after Christmas. Seriously though… I’m not hating. It’s good to see him reach his dream, but damn… I just think there are A LOT of players that are better than him… I guess he’s a hard worker and somebody they want to have in the locker room. I mean, that’s the only reason I can think of! I have no clue why they’d sign this guy!

I don’t disagree with you guys, i don’t think he’ll play more than 30 games this season in the NBA and probably be a D-Leaguer, lot of hate for a guy you will never have to endure watching for more than 6 minutes at the end of a blowout.

lots of guys sign contracts before the start of training camp and they still get cut. The contract could just be partially gauranteed if he does’nt make the roster. They do this a lot for second rounders so they make a commitment to coming into camp instead of signing for gaurnateed money right away over seas.

i think he should of went overseas right away, and i doubt hell even make the roster so i dont see him playing against his roster hell be a nice hustle player in the D-League for a year and then go overseas im guessing.

If four years from now Blake Griffen wants the hell out of LA and he is looking for a new team the Suns can hold that over his head “hey we gave your brother a chance give us one. ” Might sound stupid, but what the hell its not like the Suns are going anywhere this year.

I once heard someone say that he could be Bruce Bowen. But, couldnt anyone be Bruce Bowen if they are 6’8, have a little range, and are willing to kill themselves on defence. I understand they have to be a lil quick and stuff but that is just supid. Bowen made a living killing him self and hitting corner threes. lol Oh well.
