Thought we should make a thread for Summer League play for the rookies here. Any thoughts?

Chet’s highlights looked good on SportsCenter last night. I didn’t catch the game tbh.

    I watched the OKC game:
    – Chet looked great. He defended the giants Taco Fall and Kofi Cockburn, and actually somehow did a good job. It was partly the giants’ fault for not using their size better but still a very good sign. Chet cannot stop a guy like that but he can bother their shot with his length. Offensively, he overdribbled a bit and had some silly turnovers, probably a summer league thing, but he shouldn’t do that in real games. The shots looked amazing, he somehow makes the fast-break off-the-dribble top-of-the-key three look like a good shot, which most guards can’t do.
    – Pokusevski looks like his body has not changed at all + his threes still aren’t falling. I love Poku and want him to succeed, but I am beginning to doubt him.
    – Giddey looked great getting to the rim. He looks stronger and more controlled, really liked what I saw.
    – Jalen Williams is a physical freak. Looked great going strong to the basket, he looks like a power forward when he gets the ball under the basket but like a guard on defense.
    – Dieng is raw but has a lot of moves, actually a surprisingly similar player to Poku but shorter and with a better body. He also can do it all but nothing great, I think OKC hopes one of the two pans out, and they’ll keep that one.

Keegan Murray has looked very good, watched him a few times now in the California Classic games.

Chet looked like a young KD on offense. First thing that came to mind was how did he not go 1st.

Chet has great timing in his blocks and used his insane length very cleverly against Tack and Kofi. But it could be different against say Embeast. His shooting range looked gret but in the NBA he’d not be able to cruise to the 3 point line and before placing his shot. But my counter point would be if the quicker NBA frontcourters get to him there he will still have the size to shoot over them.

Looks like it won’t matter with the way his offensive game has developed. He can easily play a forward position and not be a liability. Get somebody else to guard the Embiid’s and Jokic’s you really don’t wanna put your best talent in that position anyways.

I really think OKC should have picked Duren or WIlliams with one of those late lotto picks but they decided to go all potential and that team is just stacked with upside. So much talent, its gonna be hard for them to be in play for Victor Wembanyama which clearly is Sam Presti’s rebuilding strategy. Lose until you get some players with top 10 upside. They might have one with Holmgren.

When you see Kenneth Lofton, you think there is no chance he makes it. When you watch him on the court, it is hard not to think he is too good to not. He is a ground level Zion, but both of them have to change their diets.

Not a rookie but I love what I’ve seen from Bruno Cabocolo so far. He’s bulked up considerably but seems to have maintained his mobility and athleticism. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him back in the league next year.

This is also Bruno’s 5th Summer League… He’s a SL alumni. He’s got no NBA contract and played in Brazil for a year and likely got paid less than the person that spitshines Aran Smith’s shoes so it will be pretty easy for him to stay focused to earn that contract. The question is can he remain dialed in throughout an 82 game season.

Jalen Duren is going to get a lot of easy stuff by the basket playing with Cunningham and Ivey. Duren looked good and explosive.

Paolo’s clutch pass at the end for the game winner. He looks pretty solid offensively. Chet might be better though, idk really. They both look like they belong in the league.

Btw, looks like this site’s changing again. Hope someone puts up an early big board 100 for 2023 soon. Lots of guys I’d put in my way to early mock. Hope the change is for the better…

Was really interested to see how shaeden sharpe could do against actual high level competition. Guess that’ll have to wait though.

Heat signed Marcus Garrett and Darius Days to two-way contracts. Garrett is a no brainer but Darius Days could be something
