Alongside him, Hezonja showed off his athleticism with THAT dunk. Ended up with 14pts on 6-16 shooting, 2-9 beyond the arc.
The Magic are loaded with young talent, but they are likely a year or two away from a full breakout.
Winslow v Johnson lived up to the hype, with Stanley coming out ahead. 14 pts, 7 rbs, 2 ast, 2 steals ans a block on an efficient 4-5 (2-3 from 3, 4-6 at the line) performance. Winslow held his own though, 17 pts, 4 rbs on 5-15 shooting, and 7-10 at the line.
McGary is showing the Thunder that he can contribute. 19 pts, and 9-12 from the field.
Turner backed up his opening day marvels with a solid defensive output. 13 pts, 9 rbs, 6 blocks. 6-11 from the field and hitting his only 3.
Exum and Hood led the Jazz well. 20/5/5 and 23/10/4 respectively. Both struggled from deep, going 1-5, but they were hitting from the charity stripe with Exum 9-10 and Hood 4-6. Great performances considering they were guarded by Smart and Rozier. They will both need big seasons if Utah is going to make the playoffs.
Smart had a big game also. 26 pts, 8 rbs, 5 ast. Inefficient though, 2-10 from 3, and 6-20 overall, but he was on fire at the charity stripe going 12-13

BleedGreen808ParticipantAaron Gordon continues to impress for the Magic. Good to see him improving his shooting and being a versatile forward.
Good back and forth matchup between Winslow and Johnson. I was really impressed with Winslow’s ability to get to the hole, using his strength to pick up fouls.
Turner has such a smooth jump shot. I’m amazed how quick he gets his shot off when he catches it in the post. He had 6 blocks but he also had foul trouble with 8.
Exum and Hood really impressed me today. Exum was really agressive after the 1st quarter and used his speed to get to the basket. He set up teammates on drop offs and got to the free throw line. Shame that Exum sprained his ankle towards the end. Hood looked confident shooting the ball of the dribble.
Smart started off poorly in my opinion by taking a couple of bad 3s. I think he wants to prove to people that he can shoot when he’s really not a good shooter. I liked that he started attacking the basket more after that because it allows him to get to the freethrow line. He went 12-13 from the line after shooting in the 64% last season. Jordan Mickey showed his ability to block shots but his lack of strength hurts him when he’s trying to hold his position and block out. Young played decently but struggled shooting going 1-5 from 3. RJ Hunter didn’t show much, going 0-5 from the field but he did have 3 steals. Rozier really rebounds well for a small guard but he isn’t much of a shooter.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI only got to watch IND vs ORLW today, but Myles Turner has me excited… He’s better than what I thought he was. I can’t believe he didn’t go higher. I think he’s going to be an All-Star caliber player very soon.

Miko4rm206ParticipantSplitting image of LAMarcus Aldridge knew the versatility was there on the offensive end. Better defensively than I thought. Can you believe the kings past up on him? Lol

festar35ParticipantDon’t say things like that , you will get me way to excited. Hopefully we can find a young, athletic and hardnosed PF to pair him with, Kenneth Faired anyone?

Jr. ROXASParticipantI watched the Jazz, Celtics game and man was I impresed by Rodney Hood. Well, he already impressed me by the end of last season but he really is a solid offensive player. I swear his floaters in the paint go in like 90 percent of the time. And he has a very solid handle for a 6’8 player. Alec Burks has found himself a tough challenge for that starting 2 guard position.
Other than that, Marcus Smart is such a ball-hog. I loved him coming out of college but right now, I can’t see him being a full-time point guard. He does not have the best handles and often makes reckless and bad decisions driving to the basket, I still love him as a player, but he has to improve his decision making. Exum was impressive but he could still use more work with his ball-handling. It’s very basic for a point guard, does not dribble it hard enough.

T RexSmart had 8 assists and 2 turnovers, one of which was in the final seconds. So call it 8:1 or 4:1, but Smart had a dominant game, 26 points on 20 FGAs, 8 assists, and great defense.
Expect a lot more of the same going forward, now that his ankle has finally healed.
I hope he attacks the rim most every time he gets the ball, and just lives at the FT line like he did two days ago, shooting 12-13 from the stripe.

TRC1991ParticipantI’m not sure Stanley had the better game than Winslow…He had more turnovers and fouls, a significantly worse +/- and Winslow also got the victory.

mopoParticipantI get a sense that Winslow isn’t taking summer league that seriously, as far as proving himself. He looked noticibly more engaged when the games get tight and seems to be everywhere on the court. Coming in with no weight on his shoulders to take the Heat over the top will allow him to find his niche really early for a rookie.
Also, his out of control looking drives will be impossible to stop one day. So sloppy looking, but he either finishes them or gets close.

Meditated StatesParticipantKid has all kinds of tools for NBA basketball. Way better pick than WCS IMO. Smart is painful to watch. He will attack the dribble in summer league but vs the NBA quick guards he cant consistently do that. I always said he is a bad shooter who just keeps shooting. He is not good at running a offense and never gets guys their shots on perimeter. Smart is a good back up guard who should focus on his defense and decision making. He is not a franchise changing PG like many thought. He most definitely hogs the ball and looks to score when he is not trully a good scorer. Evan Turner is still a much better option at PG if I am Brad Stevens.

T Rexyou’re way off on Smart. That ankle injury in early Nov slowed him down all year. Smart is going to have a huge breakout year offensively, attacking the rim like he did at OKState, and dominating on both ends of the court, not just one.

Memphis MadnessParticipantDo the Celtics have anyone to build around?
I know you can hypothetically "acquire assets", but are they seriously planning to trade a bunch of quarters and dimes (role players) for a dollar (all star)?
Yeah, the Lakers don’t get free agents but the Celtics REALLY don’t get any. 40 year old Dominique Wilkins is all I can remember.
Doesn’t sound like the Celtics can hand the keys to Marcus Smart…
Would they be better off tanking this year?
Another thing about teams built around role players is sometimes they peak early. You never know. They just don’t have that high ceiling — the team as a whole or the individual players.

T RexSmart is a soon-to-be superstar. His ankle is healthy, finally, and he’s no longer a rookie looking to pass all the time when he attacks the rim. Improved quickness + familiarity = 8-10 FTA/G, = 16 pts, 7 assists, 2 steals, 4 rebounds a game with All Defense Team level D.
