I’m trying to make a point with this post, but if you guys had to give defined roles to all 5 starters, what roles would you give them to win a championship and then name one player that fits that role.

PG: pass first, hot open jump shot, control tempo(Billups)

SG: Go to scorer, best player on team(Kobe)

SF: defensive stopper, 3 point shooter(Battier)

PF: Banger, hit the 15ft jump shot, good passer(Garnett)

C: Block Shots, Play Good D, Occasional Offense(Bynum)

Good team other than that, although I don’t know how realistic it is to get a starting 5 like that.

PG: Big, can see the floor, puts pressure on the ball on defense, shoots when open(gary payton)

SG: Scores from all areas of the court(penetration, midrange, 3 pt), Scorers mentality (OJ Mayo, Rip Hamilton)

SF: Length, athletic, lock down defense, scores in transition(trevor ariza, tayshaun prince)

PF: Money from midrange, can handle the ball if needed, scores inside and can penetrate(Dirk, Pau, Duncan, KG, Amare all fit)

C: Defends the basket, rebounds, does the dirty work, finishes inside when fed, intimidating presence, fouls hard(Kendrick Perkins)

    6th man: Instant Offense(Ben Gordon)

I would not assign specific traits to each position but in terms of players you need to have a dominate guard who can control the pace of the game, an off guard who can shoot the ball and works well within the style of play. You need a dominate post player and someone who complements them with either shooting or with his presence inside the paint, a versitile defender is also needed who can be your go to stopper when needed, this person also has to be able to bring some sort of offense to the equation. chemistry, team defense, and leadership is also very important. As well as a good bench.

PG: A leader, someone who can control the game, savvy, veteran

SG: Go-to guy, all-star, not just a scorer but a great team player

SF: Defender and strong finisher on the break

PF: Solid 2nd scoring option, passionate, versatile

C: Inside presence, tough, dominant defensively

after i did this i realized this describes the Trail Blazers (andre miller, brandon roy, nicolas batum, lamarcus aldridge, greg oden)

Fairly close to the Celtics to. As well as the Lakers of the early 2000’s, and come to think of it, the Spurs teams that won championships to.
