I find it facinating how the simple position switch have help so many players become relevant and meaningful to a team again. Who would have thought that Luol Deng and Marvin Williams will be sought after free agents this upcoming summer? The simple position switch have made Marvin Williams more money than he wouldn have got if he had stayed at the small forward position.

Look at the list at small foward turned stretch 4 that have saved careers. If you can make a list it will go as….

    • Luol Deng
    • Marvin Williams
    • Michael Beasley
    • Paul Pierce
    • Al Aminu

You can name Draymond Green to that list given his career has been made because of the switch to that position.

This transition can be outstanding for guys that have been labled "tweeners" coming out of college and help players that been labled "undersized" for the power forward position. It will help players get more money and help players get drafted higher in the draft.

    Thoughts……

You missed one of the best examples, Jared Dudley…he’s gonna get paid this summer!

    Like they say – it’s a copycat league…!

Also interesting how guys who have been in the league for a while and never been 3 point shooters have suddenly added that aspect to their games recently ( AL horford, Millsap, Luis scola, Kris humphries, mo speights, drew gooden) just to name a few. It’s definitely a changing league and with spacing more critical than ever my guess is that you are going to see more and more players who you wouldn’t typically think of as 3 point shooters start taking them more frequently.

That has become my least favorite term.

In the NBA nowadays, every PF can shoot. If they can’t, they are basically a liability on the court.

When I think "stretch 4"…I think guys like Ryan Anderson and Channing Frye, who are essentially on the court to do one thing; shoot 3-pointers.

Luol Deng, Draymond Green, Aminu all do so much more than just shoot 3-pointers. Yeah they can do it, but of the things that makes Luol Deng valuable, his ability to "stretch" the defense, might be like No. 4 or 5 on the list.

The NBA has downsized. A lot of times, teams play three wing players or two point guards and two wings. PFs that can’t shoot are now relegated to bench roles mostly or they play up to the Center spot.

Personally, if I’m getting a full-time legit PF, I don’t want them to be a "stretch 4"…I want my PF to be able to shoot, sure. But when you can guard a 4-man with a point guard, they are taking the "stretch" notion too far.

There are so many more examples! Of SF who end up playing major PF mins. I never crossed my mind that harrison barnes was gonna play PF. I said that shabazz played like a PF and got hella negs, but i never thought he would be able to play the dang psosition!! Winslow has been getting a lot of minutes at PF. Jaylen Brown despite being labeled sg-sf coming out of hS, in DX video they keep mentioning how he can spot the 4.

teams are looking for shooting and speed much more than strength and postgame.

Just yesterday the Heat were plating awful w their bigs, they ran a lineup w winslow at center and amounted like a 16 pt comeback.

    Sorry for the messy post
