ThunderHog35ParticipantSo how do we think he’ll do against the Clipper front line? I think he’ll probably be better on the defensive end than the offensive, but hopefully playing against DJ/Blake tonight and Bogut/Lee tomorrow night will give him a good taste for what he’d see as a starter. Still a rook though, so the over/under for the number of times he gets dunked on? 2.5?

SiggyParticipantI think coming off the bench was a better situation for him this yr. He didn’t have to start to get more minutes. He provides good energy, 2nd unit bigs are easier to defend and he plays very well off of Collison. You can tell who his mentor is on the team and it’s Collison. They have good chemistry.
Also, what good use is Perk off the bench? He’s not an energy guy. Perk is incapable of playing balls-to-the-wall in short stints. He can’t provide scoring punch either. Yeah, he’s pretty useless either way but at least he can set a physical tone, be engaged somehow in the game and waste his fouls early. I’d say off the bench Perk is even MORE useless.

KDThunder35ParticipantI think this is a great move regardless whether it is because of Perkins personal reasons or not. Adams is their big going forward plain and simple. The more reps Adams gets against the starting centers of the league the better. He already has the physical nature to compete, let’s speed up the mental aspect to let the game slow down for him quicker.
Let’s face it, the Thunder are a small market team, and small market teams have a limited window to win championships (ala trading James Harden due to insufficient cap room). You never know if Durant or Westbrook are going to resign after their contracts are up, and the Thunder can’t gamble with those cards in their hands.
Put your best players on the floor now to get them experience. Screw Kendrick Perkins, Collison is fine being the primary energy big off the bench, he has done it in the past with no Steven Adams. I do agree with you saying Perk is not an energy guy and wouldn’t provide a spark, but realistically, even in the starting line-up he is lifeless. The less Perkins plays the better.
I am excited for Adams to get the start this early in the season, I hope he puts Scott Brooks in a position where he has no choice but to start him going forward.

hbomb3300ParticipantI completely agree with Adams being better off the bench for this year since Perkins is even worse off the bench and he provides extra energy and scoring for the second unit. I hope he gets enough experience to be effective in the playoffs. He really just needs to be an average center to offer a huge boost to this team.

SiggyParticipantI see Perk is missing the next couple of games for personal reasons. Likely just a temporary arrangement.

SiggyParticipantYeah, he’s not ready to start. Needs to get the defensive rotations down. Even if Perk is slower than dirt he still quarterbacks the defense and calls out the rotations.
