high floorParticipantTo help get us through the dog days of summer, I wanted to get the forum’s take on these two point guards. Both had great careers, and led their respective teams to the playoffs multiple times as All Stars. Their statistics are quite comparable as well:
Stephon Marbury Career: 19.3pts, 3.0rebs, 7.6ast, 1.2stl, 43.8% fg, 78% ft
- Selected 4th overall in heralded 1996 NBA draft
- 2 time NBA All Star
- All NBA 3rd team in 2000 for New Jersey Nets
- Scored a career high 50pts in 2001 agains LA Lakers
- All NBA 3rd team in 2003 with Phoenix Suns
Tim Hardaway Career: 17.7pts, 3.3rebs, 8.2ast, 1.6stl, 43.2% fg, 78% ft
- Selected 14th overall in the 1989 NBA draft
- 5 time NBA All Star
- Led GSW’s Run TMC attack to the 2nd round of the playoffs in 1991
- Averaged 27ppg, 13apg, 3.8stl in the 1991 playoffs
- In 1997 Hardaway finished 4th in MVP voting, All NBA 1st team selection

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantIn their primes I’d say they were about even. Hardaway had the much better overall career though. His second run with the heat easily puts him over the top in this debate imo. Marbury just kind of self-destructed after 2005. A closer debate would be hardaway vs. Kevin Johnson imo.

Bmore_DCParticipantSweet post! I think Marbury had more talent, he just had issues on and off the court, so its a lot closer than people think. Obviously Hardaway had the better career, but both in their primes, one-on-one i got Marbs!

Robb_CParticipantDude, If Hardaway didn’t have to share the ball with other great players.. He would have been scoring 25 a game no sweat.. He was extremely talented..

Jr. ROXASParticipantYea their games are really pretty similar and their stats too. I say Hardaway had the better career as others said but one advantage Marbury did have was that he was a sneaky explosive leaper. He had bounce.

ExumInfernoParticipantTim Hardaway.
Better scorer in the paint, better teammate, better to watch, he got paid less than Marbury but did more.
