    Stephen Jackson Trade Talk

    October 28, 2009 4:44 PM

    By Chris Broussard

For now, this is a rumor because I haven’t verified it with sources close to the situation, but I’ve been told by a few people around the league that the Stephen Jackson trade talk is heating up. I’m told that Golden State is mulling several offers, and one person told me he expects something to happen within the next few days. I don’t know the particulars of any supposed offers, but I’m told Cleveland, Denver, San Antonio, New Orleans and the Los Angeles Clippers are all interested in Jackson.

Golden State wants Zydrunas Ilgauskas from Cleveland, but the Cavs aren’t willing to give him up because they need him to back up Shaq. The Warriors would like Manu Ginobili from the Spurs, but I can’t see the Spurs parting with Manu. I’m told the Warriors’ discussions with Denver were brief because Jackson’s $7.65 million salary doesn’t fit under their $7.4 million trade exception.

    Stay tuned…

man the way the cavs been playing these last two games they can use a spark in jackson. he would bring them that toughness they need. no disrespect to parker. but i dont none of the celtics or magic players would be scared of him

Dude, CITE the SOURCE. Hoopsworld.com everyone.
Anyways, I think that the Cavs are missing Delonte right now, believe it or not. I don’t think anything is wrong with their team though. It’s just they got to play together more. The only team I could see Jackson going to is the N.O Hornets where they desperately need him and if they can bring him in without losing Emeka, CP3, or West then by all means do it! They will lose money, but I think it’ll push them to legit contenders. As for Spurs, just stay away from him, really. No need to get him and they are fine where they’re at right now. I doubt Cleveland will get him and Denver seems set to me too…Clippers have enough talent to compete believe it or not and I know it’s getting old, but give them time. B-Diddy is obviously still hurting, but they’ll put it together and gel as a team. I look for them to compete for a Lower Seed as well. New Orleans seems like the Perfect Fit for Jackson, maybe Peja for Jackson? I doubt they’ll take Peja though with his contract, but it is shorter then Stephen’s.

If I were the Cavs, I’d pull the trigger on that deal. Adding Jackson would crowd their backcourt, but I think it’s safe to say that the status of Delonte West is questionable. Jackson would give them another player who can handle the ball, create off the dribble, pass and create his own shot. Varejao is really a backup center anyway, so they could move him to the bench and start J.J. Hickson at power forward. Hickson is young, but talented and athletic.

    C: O’Neal/Varejao
PF: Hickson/Jackson… Powe will also help here once healthy. They also plan to play LeBron at power forward a lot this season anyway.
    SF: James/Moon
    SG: Jackson/Parker
    PG: Williams/Gibson

    * I didn’t include Delonte West considering his situation, but he plays both backcourt positions.

    Where is Ilgauskas?

    O’Neal/Ilgauskas
    Varejao/Hickson/Jackson/Powe
    James/Moon
    Jackson/Parker/West
    Williams/Gibson/West

I think that would be there line up if the Jackson trade happened.

torontoraptors-if the trade for jackson went through, it is believed that Ilgauskas would be the one going to GState.

If the Nuggest could pull the triger for Jackson would really shake things up in the west. I think he’ll be a perfect fit for the Nuggets and they’ll still be able to have J.R as the sixth man would be awesome.

    C – Nene
    PF – Kenyon
    SF – Melo
    SG – Jackson
    PG – Billups

This would be a scary team to face come playoff time. I would personelly prefer he going to the Nuggets that way they’ll be able to give the Lakers a fun for their money again this year.

The Cavs don’t want to give up Ziggy because they need him to back up Shaq? That’s got to be a joke. It’s for contract reasons, if they don’t want to make the trade. I know Zig’s contract is more expensive (11.5 to 7) but it’s expiring (along with Shaq’s 20m) so they can have room to sign James or someone else (maybe 2 someones) if he leaves.. I like Jackson on this team much more than Ilgauskas at this point and I’ll bet Jackson plays a lot better with Lebron, but I like the expiring contract more. Jackson isn’t the player they need to convince LBJ to stay.

its gonna be hard to trade anyone this year with a contract longer than 1 year because everybody wants expiring contracts.. i dont see many people making any big trades at all this year..
