kingoftheplaygroundParticipantpossibly $207 million over 5 yrs if he stays with warriors.
not sure how much would make if he signed with the Hornets. Might sound crazy but he grew up in Charlotte and his dad Dell is commentating. I believe he also said in the past that he wouldnt rule out going there. Warriors cant pay everybody, someones gotta go regardless….

thetrademachineryParticipantthey most certainly will pay someone who won 2 season mvp’s. If they cant pay everyone they can trade thompson or even green with a package including a high draft pick. (celtics)
This could happen when curry is like 35 or something

mtpandolfiParticipantNo chance he leaves GS. He’d lose something like $74m or $76m if he signed a max contract elsewhere.

Anton123ParticipantIt is absolutely a fact that Stephen Curry will get a contract as big as he wants. It will also, in my opinion, be bad for the team, I don’t believe Curry has another five years of excellence in the tank, his lasy year was probably his best and the ones ahead he, I think will be getting worse year-by-year with his injuries and age catching up to him.
Still, it is true that the organization simply can’t give Curry anything less than the best. It will almost be like repaying him for being a two-time MVP on a very low-key deal. A contract for what he has done and not for what he will do.
I understand this is not a popular opinion, but I don’t see Curry having LeBron-like durability. There’s nothing to suggest that will happen. I see Curry as a Jason Terry-around-his-prime level player by the end of the deal.

JDB12ParticipantIn my opinion, I think he does have another 5 years of excellence. I think he is very capable of averaging at least 25, 6 and 4 at his usually efficiency for awhile based on the way he plays the game. His game isn’t based on athleticism like a Westbrook, Wall, or even Thomas. His best attributes are ones that age well like shooting, ball-handling, passing, basketball IQ, and his shiftiness and ability to create space (as evidence by the 36 year old Jamal Crawford). I think the only thing that will really slow him down before the age of 33 or 34 will be any major injuries if that were to happen. Hopefully that doesn’t happen, but I think he’s gonna be one of the players that is playing at a pretty high level until his mid 30s.
And in regards to the contract, Steph is a unique guy and might not even take a max deal like that if it means someone like Draymond or Klay have to go. He is one of the most grounded and humble guys in the league and I can definitely see him leaving money on the table to keep guys around.

Anton123ParticipantYou have great points and you may be right. we will find out in 5 years.
I think Curry has a very frail body which means that if he drives to the basket there is always a high risk of injury. Already Curry’s game is becoming more one-dimesional, where he doesn’t quite use the midrange game, drives and floaters as much as he used to. As he loses some of his speed and begins shying away from contact even more, I think he will almost exclusively settle for jumpers and his passing and efficiency will suffer.
If he doesn’t and continues mixing it up, I see him missing significant time because of injuries.
That’s one man’s opinion though, I could be wrong.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantCurry has been maybe the biggest bargain in modern NBA history over the past 4 seasons. I can’t see him settling for anything less than the absolute max. And the warriors really have no choice but to give him anything he wants, especially if they want to hold onto Durant. It could prove to be detrimental to the team in the future, but the consequences of low-balling him and potentially risking losing him would be absolutely disastrous.
The silver lining for golden state is that Thompson and green’s contracts were signed pre-salary cap jump so they are still locked in as relative bargains for the time being. While valuable role players like igoudala and Livingston will probably become cap casualties and move on, they will always probably be able to lure ring-chasing veterans on cheap deals as long as they keep their nucleus together. It will likely be a very top heavy roster though.

HitsterParticipantCurry would leave a load of money on the table if he moved on so I figure he is going to stay at GSW. Also he hasn’t had a really mega contract before so will surely be entitled to the max deal. As regards Steph’s durability, I could see him being an elite player for many more years for one main reason. He has rewritten the 3 point shooting stats in recent year and a player may lose athleticism and speed but their shooting should remain as they reach veteran stage. The two highest 3 point shooters in NBA history – Ray Allen and Reggie Miller played until late 30’s and were still playing to an elite level well into their 30’s so I could see Steph having a fair few more elite years.
Durant only took a one year guaranteed deal with a one year option which I assume was so he would qualify for the 10 year veteran max deal this summer. However Iggy will be a FA and is a vital part of the team and whilst he will not likely get the salary he currently gets, I wonder if KD could be asked to leave a bit in the pot so Iggy can be offered something above vet minimum.
GSW will be a FA hot spot for veterans so if players do move on then they get attract guys wanting to chase a ring.
However I do feel that a star player who expects a supporting cast can be expected to take a bit less than max, the Miami big 3 springs to mind.
