NYFinest12ParticipantSt. John’s basketball is in a rough place right now. They are for sure one of the worst teams in D-1 and if not then in the power conferences. I attened the Butler game last Saturday and walked away disgusted in this team. I knew the season was going to be rough but this is unbearable basketball to watch right now. Yet there is light at the end of the tunnel. Mullin is keeping up with his word and trying his hardest to recruit good talent and keep those NY players home to play for him. His first recruit he landed was Shamorie Ponds. Ponds is a 6’1 lefty combo guard from Brooklyn a top 50 player with the ability to light it up from anywhere. He then went on to get the best JUCO player in the country in Bashir Ahmed who hails from the Bronx who is a 6’7 Swingman he is someone who should come in and provide all around scoring and good defense. The third recruit is Richard Freudenberg from Germany and one of the top European players in his age group he is a 6’8 to 6’9 SG with a sweet stroke from three and the ability to run the floor and get up for easy baskets. Even with all this St. John’s is still in the running for Rawle Alkins and Thon Maker. If we do land those two I can imagine next season being very different from this one. Even without them I believe the team will be much improved with the returing freshmen they have in Sima, Yawke, Ellison, and Mussini. Even Marucs Bright Lights Lovett will finally be able to play. I think Mullin is staying true to his word and recruiting good talent and trying to keep the players in the city. He is trying to bring St. Johns basketball back to the time when he played. I believe he is doing a great job and I cant wait for next season for the wins to pile up.

OaktownWarriorsParticipantIt’s going to take Mullin and his staff time to build this program up and running.

ballislyfe25ParticipantThey’ve actually played some good teams tough but then have had some bad losses. In the little I’ve seen of them they seemed well coached and to have a solid philosophy with all of the players on the same page. Give them time, no real high level talent yet.

cjwParticipantThey lost all 7 rotation players from last year so this season is no surprise. Give mullin some time to recruit.

Knicks44ParticipantI am very excited for st johns next year. It’s been a long time since they had a decent team. Their recruiting class is really good and I have heard from sources that if rawle alkins signs with st johns then thon maker will also sign. That would be one of the best recruiting classes in the nation. I really hope it all works out and that every one of those players is eligible to play next year. Johnnies are coming for you!!!

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantDo they have enough room to add Alkins or Maker? They already have 3 guys signed for next year and only 3 guys are leaving Durand Johnson, Mvouika, and Balamou

NYFinest12ParticipantIf they want both Alkins and Maker somebody would have to transfer or one of the scholarship players have to go walk on. The best bet for a walk on would be Malik Ellison who would be able to pay his own way due to his father being Pervis Ellison.
