I live in NY. Although I’m a Duke fan, I support St. John. I miss the days of Marcus Hatten.

Anyway, watching this Big East Title Game made me wonder- How many NY guys are out there right now who St. John’s missed? I was upset because here’s the list

Kevin Jones, Devin Ebanks, Durand Scott, Kemba Walker, Truck Bryant, Lance Stephenson, Edgar Sosa, Lazar Hayward, Mookie Jones, Tyrone Nash, Janine Peterson, Jeremy Hazell, Corey Fisher and Dan Jennings

Now, all these players left NY for other schools? Plus NY’s 2010 class ( Tobias Harris, Rod Odom, Doron Lamb, Jayvaughn Pinkston) none of them went to St.John.

I don’t know who the frontrunners are for this job but whoever they are needs to know how to recruit. Maybe add someone like Mark Jackson on the bench for recruiting purposes.

Qhaynes the reason why St. Johns doesn’t get recruits has nothing to do with Norm Roberts. It has to do with these kids want to get away from New York and experience college elsewhere. Also, as long as you’re playing major college ball you’ll probably get more exposure than St. Johns on TV. Also, St. Johns campus life is non-existent it is mostly a commuter school so social life lacks. I go to Hofstra, and a few of our players were recruited by St. Johns, but didn’t go for it being a commuter school, losing program last few years, and lack of social life.

I don’t know. I know some guys for St.John, they told me that Roberts didn’t “press” for these players.

I do agree. They could win some more games and it is a traveler’s school but I think they need and could have swayed some of these players to St.John and didn’t

BTW, St. John is rumored to be in contact with Hofstra’s head coach

Yeah if Pecora goes to St. Johns that would be extremely foolish. Also, Norm Roberts is staying next year, Louie has said he supports Roberts, and that goes a long way.

The report earlier this week is Roberts will not return for next season

That was before they beat UConn I believe, and then played Marquette down to the wire. I think it would be foolish to fire Roberts considering that everyone is returning to the team.

I saw that Roberts wasn’t returning yesterday. I mean, a win vs. an NIT (?) bound Uconn team isn’t enough to keep a job after years of being a bottom-dweller.

I know where you are coming from, but to fire Roberts after this season won’t be a smart move because the next coach would have Roberts’ whole team and the players may not respond to the new coach, but a coach next year would love that job if Roberts’ fails because then SJU will have a lot of scholly’s and a coach can do what he wants.

because norm roberts isn’t getting the job edone when it comes to recruiting and he never will. they need a coach who is well recognized or has won in the past to get the players they need.

St. Johns’ campus is in such a bad location where most students there don’t live on campus, and nowadays most kids want to go away to college that they simply see St. Johns as an after thought.
