d-grizzlyParticipantMy question today is about the San Antonio Spurs. Looking at their additions over the offseason and everyone looking healthy again,
are they contenders….or pretenders?

sammybuckeye13ParticipantI think they’ll finished 4-7 with their ceiling being the 3 seed. Their guard situation is a question mark, and you don’t know who’ll be there in a few months, who will be healthy and who will be starting. They’re very weak at the swing (Jefferson’s a 13 and 5 guy now) and down low you have two big question marks in Blair and Splitter, although I think they’ll both be good; you just don’t know how good or how they’ll fit in. Point is, they’re not gonna dominate, they’re not gonna rip off 10 wins a row, but on the flip side, they won’t lose 5 in a row either. I think they’ll finish 6th in the West.

kgreeley20ParticipantI think that their no doubt that they will make the playoffs but i dont see them going far. But the west is full teams that are true contenders. like dallas and the lakers and possible the nuggets to fill out the east you got thunder, jazz, blazers and possible the rockets. Even if they have a good season they are not contenders unless splitter or jefferson really steps it up and everyone remains healthy

SubZeroParticipantI think that their wings are one of their strong suits with George Hill, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and James Anderson (who I think will have a good rookie season)

Zeke33ParticipantSpurs are always contendors…even if they are a 7 seed they are still a team u want to avoid playing. i dont think they can win this year but they will wear teams out and go down very respectfully

mj23mj23besteverParticipantgood point zeke no team wants to take on timmy in the first round of the play offs i think splitter is a great addition he can play center putting timmy at the 4 and hes long and fast enough to guard sum 3s if they wanna big ball and play timmy splitter and blair together good mention on james anderson id actually start him at the 2 allowing manu and hill sum teams would take that as their starting back court coming off the bench

HitsterParticipantFully agree with Zeke that the Spurs may not win it but they could stop a few teams winning in along the way. With Splitter, Blair, Bonner and Diceman they have a nice complimentary mix around Tim Duncan and can watch their minutes so Coach Poppovich can get maximum benefit from them.
The Spurs are one of those teams you could have confidence in rebuilding when Duncan and even Coach Poppovich retire as they have a solid front office and already have a few nice complimentary players in place for the future.
