The Jazz have been rumored to be trying to move into the 2nd spot since yesterday – but the Jazz have been shopping Harris and Millsap according to rumors, not Al Jefferson which would make one think that maybe they’re not targeting Kanter since Jefferson plays Center for them. With Favors on the roster some people think it doesn’t make sense that they target Williams. Is it possible the Jazz think Cleveland will take Williams 1st overall and are actually seeing if they get Irving?

I personally don’t think it’s insane that they go after Williams, (Maybe they don’t think Favors will be a go-to-guy in the post, or maybe he’s grown and they want to groom him for the C position), but with PG such a need for the Jazz (since the vibe from the organization is Harris is not the guy), I wonder if they have an inclination about who they think Cleveland is taking #1 and are targeting Irving?

What are your guys thoughts? Any chance this draft can live up to it’s hype in terms of how much trade talk/rumors have been out there? With it’s uncertainty though, it’s made for one of the more exciting drafts in recent memory.

Personally, as a cavs fan, I would love to see the Cavs take Derrick Williams. But, Favors is still the PF and Jefferson the C.  That being said, moving Millsap makes sense for Williams to play the SF.  And they’ll keep Harris if they are smart and try to make a splash in next years draft, which is loaded with point guards like teague and rivers and kabongo.

However, I would love Cle to take Derrick at #1 because it gives them way more options at the #4 pick then.  Such as a brandon knight.

The hoopsreport just tweeted that the Wolves/Jazz interest in Kanter is a smokescreen. I brought this up yesterday and it’s playing into the thoughts I’m having about this recent bout of rumors. @kslack24, Millsap is being shopped because the Jazz want him off the bench, but he wants to start. He played some SF last year, but didn’t work out too well, his foot speed and dribble drive isn’t there, although he has extended his range out to 3, which if anyone watched him since his rookie year has to admit that is amazing the progress he’s made.

It’s sad because all the championship teams typically have a legit starter coming off the bench (Odom, Terry, Miami always has one of big 3 on floor so it’s similar, Manu, Posey in his 1 year with Boston etc) Millsap off the bench puts the Jazz much closer to contending again but it’s not happening in Utah, they asked him last year, and when Favors came over he seemed very upset.

If we move up it better be to get Irving. I don’t know how affective Williams will be as a 3, and that’s the last thing we need is another pf.

I haven’t seen any insider reports suggesting this is true.  I’ve only heard a few analysts speculate it might be a smoke screen.  Due to size and known skill alone Kanter is a near-certain top-5 pick in almost any draft.  If he was able to play last year (and played @ Sullinger levels), he’d almost certainly be the #1 pick in this draft.  Considering he outplayed Sully a year ago, that doesn’t seem like a stretch.  With those factors weighed, it would be surprising if Minn/Utah didn’t have interest in Kanter @2 or 3.  If he’s around @4, I’d be shocked.
