Lou Williams intends to opt out and become a free agent at the end of the season, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Said the source: "He’s indicated that he’s not going to pick up his option. All indications are that he’s going to opt out."

Williams has not informed the Sixers of his plans.

"He has not said what he will do, but we will react to that when the time comes," general manager Rod Thorn said.

I personally do not like relying on "sources" in this day and age but this is rough news for Sixers fans.  Hell, I didn’t even know he had an opt-out this summer.

 I know your a sixers fan…What does this mean for our draft, Do we have to pick up another guard now instead of picking up a powerfoward.

Or just use Evan Turner as a PG when Jrue comes out? This is kinda rough we need to make major offseason moves.

 He is a nice piece but if he goes I don’t think it’s a huge deal. I know he has closed out a lot of games for the sixers but he is what he is. He is a very good sixth man but the sixers need that star player. If you can keep Lou for a nice price that is fine but there are other guys out there that can come off the bench and score.

 I was willing to let Lou go this summer but only for something in return. He may not be an efficient scorer but when he’s on, he’s on! He’s got a good knack of drawing a foul and he doesn’t mind taking the big shots late (although it doesn’t always pan out for us lol)… Any team lacking a scoring punch off the bench could use his services. Only thing is I would have liked to trade him for something (either a player or pick) rather than let him go and get nothing in return.

I would imagine that Collins will press management to resign him, but if he is asking for a lot and another team is down to meet his number, I wouldn’t be shocked if he bounced. Lou has never really had a huge payday, by NBA standards.

Before we look at the draft, I think defining the roles of our young players is something that has to be done first. Jrue and ET are both primary ball-handlers; one actually being a PG and the other being a 6-7 SG. To be honest, I think they are stunting the growth of each other and it is really pissin’ me off. I think Thad Young stays our 6th man cuz he can’t dribble, shoot off the dribble, or shoot consistently. Finally, are we resigning or letting walk two of the most overrated players ever in Spencer Hawes and Jodie "up 15, dam right this is going in" Meeks; once again I think Collins will push to get at least one (if not both) back next year.

Now to the 76ers draft. PF is a huge hole with EB departing after next year, and I wouldn’t mind bringing in a young player to challenge the Ol’ School Chevy for his starting spot next year. Center is our other glaring weakness so I certainly see us targeting one if possible. I could see any of these potential 4 or 5’s getting drafted by the Sixers: PJ3, Sullinger, Zeller, Moultrie, Leonard, Henson, Fab Melo, and anyone else they’d have to trade up for. 

If Iggy is moved, SF then moves up the list (especially since we would most liekly be getting a big man back in return. I’m also down for a Gerald Wallace-type trade…), but other than that I don’t see us targeting one since ET has the ability to play and guard 1-3. If Lou is not resigned I could see us going after a PG since we would really only have Jrue and ET as ball-handlers. Regardless of if Lou leaves or not, I see the Sixers targeting a catch-and-shoot SG that can be an upgrade from Meeks. Terrence Ross makes a ton of sense as our pick if that is the direction we go.

Rajon Rondo is by no means a polished diamond. Within the past calendar year, he has thrown a ball, and his body, at referees. He is still prone to gambling on defense and quiet tantrums until we see that he is not. A pre-season’s worth of glowing Rondo scripture by no means makes the man infallible.
