Mad MaxParticipantInterested to hear who some of yall aren’t quite as high and think won’t be very good in the NBA. Specifically the top 20-lotto guys. I’d be really interested to see if anyone was down on a Towns, Okafor, Russell. There aren’t too many that I feel strongly against, but the #1 guy for me is WCS.
Im a Kentucky fan, so I’ve watched him play just about every single game of his career, and I honestly believe whoever uses their lotto pick to draft him is completely waiting their time. Lets start with the obvious. His offensive game, he doesn’t have one, outside of a hook shoot he occasionally hits on. Bad footwork, no postmoves, can’t shoot, his offense comes from running the floor and garbage points. He’s a one way player.
Defensivly, I think he’s being overrated. Yes, great size and length combined with athletic ability that’s unheard of for a guy his size. But look at some of the best defensive bigs in the NBA today, Gasol and Bogut, they’re aren’t very athletic by NBA standards, but they’re two of the best because they understand rotations and call out everything on defense. WCS is more of a guy to come block a shot weakside, not a defensive anchor. He never showed that leadership at UK. I watched him get worked in post on defense against Frank Kaminsky, he was getting moved around by Frank and couldn’t stay with him. Good luck against the guys in the NBA. Also in some of the big games for UK, he would not show up and have no impact. Part of that is because he has no offense but also his lack of focus and maturity which is something he’s had problems with at UK. Not saying he’s a bad dude, but he’s not super locked in.
Overall I think WCS is a career backup and whoever picks him will regret it

asmartin626ParticipantI think WCS will be the next Tyson Chandler. I could see him being a defensive anchor, with the right coaching. As far as offense, teams know exactly what they are getting. He knows his game too and doesn’t try to be an offensive weapon, so I think his lack of offense won’t be a big problem. I’m not real big on Devin Booker though. He seems to be a hell of a shooter, but I don’t know if I would take him in top 10.

llperezThe guy I feel is most overrated is booker. I know he is very young, but he didn’t show me nearly enough his one year of college. Doesn’t create off the dribble that well, attacks kinda weak when he does get in the lane. Poor defender. I wouldn’t take him lotto.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantI’m not completely "down" on Okafor. I like him and think he’s basically gonna be a slightly worse Al Jefferson. But as a potential number one pick? He’s just as much of a one-way player as WCS is, and yet we’re still talking about him as a potential #1? His FT shooting suggests he’s not going to be a great shooter in the NBA, he’s not a great rebounder given how freaking massive he is (which is alarming), and to say he struggles on D is an understatement. He’s not a turnstile, but he’s definitely not #1 worthy on the defensive end. Again, I’m NOT saying Okafor is a bad player. I just don’t think he’s a #1. I’m not as high on Okafor as many Minny fans are. I’d much rather the Wolves pick Towns or Russell.

I think Hezonja will be ok because of his mentality. He will clash with others in the locker room, but he can also back up the talk.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI think okafor will be a very good NBA player and put up good numbers but I’m not sure he is the type of player you can build around. I’m still convinced he doesn’t have the upside of towns, Russell or even mudiay.
Turner is a guy I have legitimate concerns about due to his awkwardness and lack of mobility. I think he’d be very risky in the top 10.

IlladelphParticipantFor all the reasons above about Okafor:
1. Defense is poor for a guy his size and wingspan.
2. Cannot spread floor because he cannot shoot the long ball or the midrange j.
3. Absolutely horrendous at the charity stripe.
4. His size and power advantage in college will not translate directly to the NBA game. He will need to add a midrange game, and develop some defense and I don’t see him doing this any time soon.
Basically I see Okafor as a decent starting NBA center. But what you see now is probably what you’ll get in the long run. I just don’t see him as an "upside" pick, and at his age he should be. Definitely a lottery pick, but would rather take Porzingis, Mudiay, Russell, and def Towns before him. Definitely would not take him as the number one overall pick.

gthaoParticipantSorry, I have to go with Winslow. People are comparing him to Harden but he’s a different player. Winslow’s not that great of shooter, fouls a lot, not that great of a free throw shooter, offensive game needs a lot of work, and he can’t dribble. I think he’ll end up as a bench guy who brings energy, kinda like a Corey Brewer. I’m just not sold on him like everyone else. I’m gonna get sooooo much crap for this but I don’t see this kid that special.
But Myles Turner for sure is a bust! He’s slow, weak, can’t rebound, loves the jump shot too much and he’s an ok mid-range shooter, no post game, not that great of defender. He just has size with a little jump shot.

Jr. ROXASParticipantCan’t dribble? I’m thinking you haven’t seen much Duke games because that guy is a nice ball-handler. It’s not like we expect a 2/3 man to have Kyrie-like handles right??? His dribbling skills are the same as Beal or Thompson good enough to create for himself in the next level. And this guy can bring the ball up the floor and run a break with ease. His skill and reflexes are also incredible in the open floor, reacting on defenders with euro-steps either with the left or right foot. This guy’s offensive game is not as bad as you think my man.

mgreener_34ParticipantDekker for me. I see him at best playing at an above average role player level, and some people are still clamoring for him to be a lottery pick. I would pick him in the 19-22 range, but would not touch him for the life of me with a lottery pick. I see a worse Jeff Green written all over him

frogmanParticipantUmm if you can guarantee me an above average role player at the end of the lottery I’m jumping all over it!
Here are the end of lottery players over the last 5 drafts not including the last one..
09 – Gerald Henderson, Tyler Hansbrough, Earl Clark
10 – Xavier Henry, Ed Davis Patrick Patterson
11 – Alec Burks, Markieff Morris, Marcus Morris
12 – Meyers Leonard, Jeremy Lamb, Kendall Marshall
13 – Steven Adams, Kelly Olynyk, Shabazz Muhammad.
How many superstars do you see in that group? Hell, how many abover average role players? Not sure what you expect to find at the back end of the lottery.

ChoppyParticipantI worry about his shooting around the basket being so poor at the college level. If he can’t hit those with his size and frame against college kids how will he at the NBA level? Not sold on his outside shot either. Reminds me a bit of how Oladipo had great outside shooting the year before he was drafted. Didn’t translate all that well.

Bed HeadParticipantCause I have a feeling this is not going to go over very well.
Okay, um, it’s not that I don’t think Frank Kaminsky can play, or that he, like, totally sucks big nut sacs, or anything like that. I do wonder, though, if perhaps the amount of attention he receives is completely disproportionate to his actual ability to impact a game. I mean, maybe it’s just me, but I have an awfully hard time getting too excited over someone whose ceiling is Brad Miller.
BTW, I want to neg ZachAttack so badly right now, it’s practically killing me. However, I won’t. Because, see, I realize it would be entirely unfair to neg someone simply for stating an opinion I happened to disagree with. (Just, like, thought I’d toss that out there.)

llperezkaminsky has very legit concerns in terms of defense. but i think he is very underrrated in this draft. He has post moves, soft touch over either shoulder, has counter moves in the post and doesnt have that typical stiff make up his mind ahead of time type post game many bigs have. He can also shoot it but i wouldnt label him just a stretch big. I mean kentucky had both WCS and Towns who are exepcted to be elite defensive bigs but frank still put up 20 and 11 on a high fg% vs them.

BiggysmallsParticipantI’m not that high on WCS either. Its weird though because I thought he was Kentucky’s best player early in the year by far. He was the best player on the floor against Texas, Kansas and UNC and just seemed to make big plays in a lot of those games.
I think he’ll be an okay defensive player in the league, but the guy still hasn’t developed any sort of skill offensively. He’s not a great offensive rebounder, not even a great defensive rebounder. Has a lot of length and fairly athletic but all he can do is dunk and run the floor. Nice qualities but I think his ceiling is Omer Asik.
Its super difficult to keep in mind that a lot of these guys are 19 years old. Myles Turner, Stanley Johnson and Devin Booker are guys that I’m kinda meh on, but at the same time, they are 19 years old and can grow in so many ways that its hard to really evaluate them in terms of how they will translate. If none of them improve, I don’t think they will be good NBA players. That can be said for just about everybody.

Robb_CParticipantSam Dekker- I’ve seen him up close, He’s a legit 6’9 and has great size but I see him as a tweener of sorts of defense.. Not quick enough to guard 2s not strong enough to guard 3s.. he’s extremely frail looking very skinny frame.
Kelly Oubre- I dont know what the big deal about him is he has a low basketball IQ limited passer and dribbler, and plays very uninspiring basketball.. He will bust.
Karl Anthony Towns- I agree with the poster, I’m not sold on him game hes still young but he has a limited basketball IQ and doesn’t really posses great hands to be efficient on offense in the league..

dbeal21ParticipantI like KAT he has a lot of potential and could be a great 2-way center. WCS I think will be a backup center that protects the rim more than likely will not live up to people saying he can be a tyson chandler type. Lyles I’m not too sure on Trey Lyles. Devin Booker I think will be good in 3-4 years maybe a Danny Green type but he will take a while to develope. I think Dakari Will be a gem pick in the 2nd round. Overall I don’t think they have the potential as a lot of kentucky players in the past, with the exception of KAT.

kobyzParticipantMudiay, he is more project than people think, he got killed by marbory and others in china, he is playing right now too nice, cute and clean, need to be more bad and to get more dirty on the court…

Winning_TimeParticipantI have a lot of players I’m not high on in this draft, not necessarily as a player but where people see them getting drafted. In order:
1. Trey Lyles. I just don’t understand where the awe comes from. Does not do anything particularly well. Mostly have beef with him just because some people have him going before Turner and Portis and that is baffling to me.
2. Sam Dekker. I like him a lot but he has no wow factor for me. I think it’s lazy that people are saying he could be like Hayward or Parsons. He’ll be solid player who I’m sure would not look bad in a starting lineup but is nothing to stunt about.
3. WCS. I love WCS. I have a hard time mocking him number 6 though. I understand the fit and it would be nice. But we are talking about a guy who has litte to no offensive game and may pull a Larry Sanders on us. 6 is just a bit high for me.
