top duo’s and trio’s that never made it from the ’90s to today.

Derrick Coleman and Kenny Andersen (new jersey nets)-both all-stars and complimented each other well. Some were comparing them to the next Stockton and Malone.

Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning (Charlotte Hornets)-were two all-stars taken 1st and 2nd in back to back drafts. They turned Charlotte into a title team and were expected to be one of the best big man tandems for many years. But they didn’t get along and Zo was eventually trade to miami for Glen Rice and LJ suffered some injuries before going to NY.

Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn and Jason Kidd (Dallas Mavericks)-3 straight top 4 picks allowed the Mavericks to put togather the ‘3 J’s’. Jimmy and Jamal were one of few duo’s to both average 25 in the same season and Kidd was the rookie of the year who was gonna be feeding them the rock. An explosive high scoring trio that fell apart quickly due primarily to internal fighting, mostly between Kidd and Jackson with thier infamous toni Braxton squabble.

Shaq and Penny (Orlando Magic)-back to back number 1 picks landed the orlando what was supposed to be the new Magic and Kareem. In just 3 seasons together, they both developed into all nba players while leading the Magic to the Finals. But they didn’t get along fighting for alpha dog status. Shaq also had issues with the media and management. Local newspapers in orlando ridiculed Shaq and he fired back by saying how hard it was to be the big fish in a small pond like Orlando. Before he left for Los Angeles, a poll ran in the orlando papers showed that the citicens didn’t think the Magic should make any attempt to resign Shaq regardless of price.

Vin Baker and Glenn Robinson (Milwaukee Bucks)-two all-star young forwards who were supposed to bring the Bucks back into contention.

Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury (minnesota Wolves)-the big ticket and starbury led the wolves to the playoffs and had the potential to be the cornerstone to something special, but they also fought and Marbury was eventually sent else where.

these are just off the top of my head and I’m sure there are plenty more that you can guys mention. I kinda have to leave Payton and Kemp out since I think they accomplished a lot together.

definitely Melo and Iverson they scored but they couldn’t win because it was a two man show and they didn’t make it a team game.

Yao, McGrady, and Artest. Really good on paper, maybe even bettter than the big 3 in Boston…. But we know how that worked out.

Elton Brand and Ron Artest in Chicago with Jamal Crawford complimenting them.

Artest was eventually traded to the Pacers and Brand traded for the draft pick that got them Tyson Chandler. If Chicago had let those three grow together who knows how good they could have been. Warning Portland and OKC: keep your young core together!

Acutally, we dont know how it worked, T-Mac was never healthy and we never really got to see how these 3 worked together as a group over an extended period of time.

Now if you want to say T-Mac and Yao, i’m fine with that since T-Mac has never won a playoff series that he participated in.

AI and Carmelo were not that bad of a combo. Denver could put up points. They just had injuries and could not beat elite teams because of defense.

I was a fan of the #1, #2, and #3 picks of the 1992 draft playing for the 2006 Miami Heat,…granted they were all past their primes and this guy named Dwayne Wade was a huge part in their Championship run, you gotta give props to the middle-aged Shaq, Mourning, Lattener trio

    Shaq, Kobe, Malone, and Payton

The uneducated/ignorant fan would have thought of domination… But basketball followers know that it just wouldn’t work out.

One year, but Payton, Kobe, Malone and Shaq…. on paper, sounds like they should have contend for the NBA wins record, but never could mesh. Dirk and Nash could have done it…. given more time. Webber, Vlade and any teammate from their great run… Christie, Stojakovic, Williams, Bibby… damn shame too.

the year with payton, malone, kobe and shaq was not as great as it should have been, but there were a lot of injuries that year. I remember buying tickets to a Lakers vs Kings game that year and Kobe, Shaq, Malone, and DGeorge all didn’t even dress due to injury. I just got to watch the Kings beat the lakers by 30 while Kareem Rush tried to carry the load on his shoulders. They still had an okay year getting to the finals and might have won it had they had Malone. But Payton was really slipping that year and that was the pinnacle of the Shaq and Kobe feauding.
