“Clippers summer league roster, in part: Al-Farouq Aminu, Eric Bledsoe, Willie Warren, DeAndre Jordan, Greek forward Sofoklis Schortsanitis.”

via Lisa Dillman’s twitter (LA Times sports writer)

He’s finally coming over from Greece to play on the Clippers summer league team and is expected to sign with the Clippers soon. He has been a subject of debate previously on this site and I’m excited to see what he can do now that he is in shape as I’m sure some of you are as well. He is a Glen “Big Baby” Davis type of player, except that he is 6’10. He had weight issues for a while and as a result has not come to the NBA until now although he was drafted in 2003. I believe he could be a very good bench player if he stays in shape. He only just turned 25 and has some good potential as long as he can stay in NBA shape. He actually is already practicing with the Clippers and he apparently has been very impressive. Here is a video of him that includes many things including his performances against the US national team, the Cavs, and the Spurs, along with other highlights:

    What do you think?

Also known as Baby Shaq, lol, I think it could be a good thing. Do you guys remember at all what this guy did in 2006 vs. the US in the World Championships? He totally destroyed the US frontline, I believe at the time it was Clippers big man Elton Brand who he destroyed. Now, he may have hure concerns with conditioning, but when you are 6’10, 330 pounds, it is not an easy task to keep you out of that paint. I do not think I can ever see Sofo really playing big minutes, he will be a role player and I think Big Baby should be an example to Schortsianitis (sp?), with the weight he dropped since college, but if he plays 15-20 minutes, I am sure he will be a fan favorite and maybe have some decent games. My biggest worry with Sofoklis is I have been tracking his career in Europe and he has not exactly torn it up over there, but I think the Clippers finally getting their pick to come over could be a boost for the team. With all of the injuries they have been plagued with, they can use a back-up 4/5 combo as much as anything, and Sofo would seem to fit the bill.

Dunk at 8:40 just ridiculous. It was a complete offensive foul, but he just moves the whole damn basket. I think very few people would be able to handle this guy downlow, while at the same time his conditioning makes him a huge defensive liability, but whoever is guarding the guy will be tired after a few minutes. It is most likely like pushing a parked car by yourself.

I have been intrigued with Sofo since he first beat up the US. It has been sad to see him so consistently in and out of shape since he does possess many skills that are hard to find in such big guys. As we all know, he has some ridiculously quick feet for a large man and some of the softest hands on the planet. This is a no lose situation for the Clips, as Sofo wil get to work not only with the team but also NBA level strength and conditioning experts. Can’t hurt to try!
