In my opinion, I haven’t seen a big who is the real deal like Skal in a while. He has made impressive strides in developing his game and body, and his overall game is just special. Everything he does he just doing it at a higher level, literally. He just looks like he is always elevated over his opponents at all times, whether it’s his jumpshot or post moves, or on the defensive end and he’s protecting the rim or closing out on jumpshots. Look at Kobe and MJ, when they do a fadeaway, when they stop and pop, or they attack the rim, they are just elevated over every other player on the court. I am not saying that Skal plays like MJ or Kobe, or he’ll be that good, but him being a big and the way he makes plays with his elevation is going to take him a long way. Maybe he is not NBA ready now, but the foundation is there, the skills, the hunger to improve, and the motor is there.

 In five years when you talk about the best bigs in the game, it’s going to be Anthony Davis and Skal at the top.

 Something that really impresses me is how much he’s improved over the last 2 years with being sidelined by a back injury as a junior and playing on an intramural level (no exaggeration) team as a senior. I’m anxious to see what he can do with better coaching and being surrounded by better players every day in practice.

I’d like to know where you guys are coming up with this stuff. 

He didn’t play HS ball…except for a fake team at a fake school….So I know it’s not based on that.

He hasn’t played in any international tournaments….So I know it’s not based on that.

He wasn’t eligible to play in the McDonalds All-American game….So I know it’s not based on that.

But he was the best big-man at the Nike Hoops Summit. Matched up against Maker (12mths younger) and the US team had next to no big-man talent on the roster. 

How are you guys gonna tell me he’s the next Tim Duncan and Anthony Davis’s #1 Rival when you’ve never seen him play a single competitive match? Give me a break…

All you have to go by is the positive reviews that scouts gave him based on 2 show-case games. 

I’d rather see someone play against actual competition before calling them the next Tim Duncan.

 Skai is hard player for me to rate right now. I’ve only seen highlights and read reports. All I had on Jabari Parker was highlights and reports. I didn’t think much of him until I watched an actual game. I’m sure that’s why I’m not picking up on why people make a big deal of Skai. If you just go by footage, he does look fluid, with decent post moves (without some needed strength), a great mid range jumper, and he’s reasonably athletic. He doesn’t strike me as a shotblocker and I don’t think he compares, in any way, to Anthony Davis. He looks like a lottery pick, but I’m trying to get used to the idea of him being a top 3 pick. If he averaged 22ppg in the NBA and went #3 in the draft…I wouldn’t be surprised. I think he has good defensive potential, but not sure about playmaking potential. He’s just been so physically dominant against High School competition that it’s hard to know how skilled he actually is.

I liked the inclusion of the link to my post. The purpose of that thread was to highlight how impressive Simmons was as opposed to anyone else in the class. I had Skal #3 in my mock draft in a thread yesterday.

I actually like Newman. I see aggression, confidence, crafty footwork and soft touch that gives him the ability to score at any level. I also saw great Leadership & takeover instincts at the FIBA U17 tournament.  

I feel like he’s got the same feel for scoring the ball as Ben Gordon, with Reggie Jackson’s slashing ability. The kinda guy that you live-and-die by. Of course…if he turns into a top-tier shooter, his value increases significantly.

However, now when we see a guard or SF with athleticism, we assume they’re just an athlete. Jaylen Brown is not just an athlete, he’s not just strong. He’s skilled at getting to the basket, has a great touch using the backboard, and has floaters and close-range jumpers. He’s an elite offensive weapon. He has decent form and he’ll eventually be able to knock it down from outside, probably consistently. What’s not to like?

Crazy to think Anthony Davis averaged 4.7 blocks per game in Kentucky as a young freshman. 

The amazing thing is that when you watch footage of his NCAA season, most of his blocks were on outside jumpers (which are significantly harder to block than weakside shots around the hoop).

 Have you ever watched any of Montverde Academy’s games. You can find them online its not hard. At least the HS All-star games. It’s not in question that Simmons is a great athlete. Even if his verticle is 35 inches that is a very good verticle for a 6’10 230 pound teenager. I think Kawhis verticle was in the low 30’s so sometimes like you said a positive test doesn’t translate in Russell’s case but sometimes it doesn’t translate in Leonard’s case. In Simmons case I think it will translate well at the combine and on the court. Such an underrated athlete its ridiculous.

 Have you ever watched any of Montverde Academy’s games. You can find them online its not hard. At least the HS All-star games. It’s not in question that Simmons is a great athlete. Even if his verticle is 35 inches that is a very good verticle for a 6’10 230 pound teenager. I think Kawhis verticle was in the low 30’s so sometimes like you said a positive test doesn’t translate in Russell’s case but sometimes it doesn’t translate in Leonard’s case. In Simmons case I think it will translate well at the combine and on the court. Such an underrated athlete its ridiculous.

LSU’s ’25 is coming’ campaign is being launched this year behind Ben Simmons and the recruiing class in hopes they can once again be a perennial powerhouse in college basketball and start winning recruiting classes. They will be pulling every trick possible to bring media attention their way

 Jaylen’s problem is he relies on his strength heavily in his game, and we really don’t know how far that will take him or if he can adjust. Ingram is no more than a role player and he even knows it. Jamal Murray is my front runner for the 3rd pick behind Skal and Ben, the comparisons to Brandon Roy are pretty accurate.
