This is my first trade scenario ever.  But it’s mostly grounded in real rumors, so I’d like to think it’s fairly legitimate.

So there’s been rumors that the Lakers could move the #7 and Steve Nash for MCW and Thaddeus Young of the Sixers.  In this scenario, the 76ers would definitely take Exum to be their future point guard.  So here’s a modification to the proposal:

Lakers give up #7 and Nash and sign-and-trade Nick Young, who just opted out of his contract and wants to see the Lakers "make him a priority".  Which they likely will not.

Sixers give up #10, Thaddeus Young and MCW

In my mock, I have Embiid falling to 7 (76ers would take Exum for a point guard, Magic aren’t big on him, take Smart, Jazz are really big on Vonleh, Celtics aren’t big on him, take Gordon).  In this scenario, the Sixers can get Exum at 3 AND Embiid at 7.  At 10, the Lakers can take any number of guys like Jusuf Nurkic, Doug McDermott, Dario Saric, Nik Stauskas, Adreian Payne, or even Elfrid Payton, who would be a great fit for LA if they don’t end up with MCW.

Why the Sixers do this: Get Exum AND Embiid, along with Nick Young, who gives them a legiitimate wing scorer.  Even if Embiid or Exum don’t pan out, odds are, they still get one superb player from this draft who is a better building block than MCW or Thaddeus Young.  And hey, they get a year of Steve Nash to help Exum out and help the other rookies gel.

Why the Lakers do this: Get a player at 10 who would only be slightly less valuable than their 7th pick.  Get some value for Swaggy P.  Get two great young guys in Young and MCW, guys who they can put with Kobe to have a decent team next year.  Not have to pay their rookie as much.  Unload Nash’s contract.  Ultimately, they would have about the same amount of cap space, only they would have Young and MCW and Kobe instead of just Steve Nash and Kobe.

    76ers lineup (long-term, at least):

    Embiid

    Noel

Hollis Thompson, James Anderson, or another rookie or free agent

    Nick Young

    Dante Exum

Lakers lineup (let’s say they take a forward like McDermott, Payne, Saric, or Hood)

Free Agent center to be named (or Jordan Hill)

    Rookie Forward

    Thaddeus Young

    Kobe

    MCW

(plus any other good free agents that they acquire since they’ll still have a ton of cap space.)

Sixers weren’t particularly enamored with Young when he was on the team two years ago, so I’d be shocked if they were interested in him again.

It’s not a bad scenario if the Lakers had another enticing piece to substitute for Nick Young.

That’s pretty ridiculous. If I’m reading right 7, Nash’s bad contract, and Nick Young who the Sixers let walk a year ago for #10, Thad, AND Carter-Williams. If that happens someone should get fired immediately

Yeah bro the rumor didn’t have us giving up our 10th…Just MCW and Thad for Nash and number 7…which if it does go down I like your idea of picking Embiid and Exum obviously..but who you like at 10? Grab a shooter? Maybe take a risk on LaVine? Either way we’ll all know a lot more in 48hrs

If Embiid slips to 6, the Celtics will take him. They haven’t had a center since they traded Kendrick Perkins, so I don’t see how they would let one of the better center prospects that we’ve seen in awhile slip past them. They need someone who can defend the paint and block shots. If Embiid’s injuries don’t hamper his career, he’ll immediately be a defensive presence.

Why on earth would we take your aweful salary, give up 10 and our 2 best players to move up 3 ?

That is beyond the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Here’s what I would do.  I’ll give you 10 and a second rounder for 7 and I’ll absorb Nash’s terrible contract so he can retire and help you facilitate a trade by clearing space.

Thats it – and the Lakers don’t want to be taking back salary anyway
