I just read in a post on an Embiid "if he does come back healthy". What’s starting to get me with all the Sixers threads is the word if.

If Embiid, If Saric, if we get the #1 pick, if if if.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not frustrated with the posters. I’m frustrated that a whole franchise rests on ifs.

What a rediculous way they’ve run the franchise. Drafting injured players, stash overseas players, building a roster that’s 200 foot tall and all this player movement and they do not have a star; infact (disregarding potential) Jason Thompson, Jason Richardson and Carl Landry are by far and away the three most accomplished players on this roster. Oh, and one of those is a centre!

Well after that I’m going to add one that Hinkie should have asked himself. If we’re not happy with Carter-Williams as our starting point guard WHAT IF we don’t trade Elfrid Payton.

Professional sport is about being competitive and more so TRYING to be competitive. This organisation’s tactici and methods need to come under scrutiny.

They still have have Nerlens Noel at PF and Okafor at C, who are gonna be great together, not to mention Saric at SF. One hell of a potential frontcourt already.

How many picks do they have next year? and the next?

They have the assets but it just keeps going wrong for them.

My issue is with the way the organization is executing their decissions, I’m not questing players like Okafor and Noel. Look at it this way; assets that are picks and potential are like red wine; if you don’t store them properly and look after them they just go sour. My issue is that all the front office decission making is making the assets go sour and it is worryng for Sixers fans that continuous losing might sour Noel and Okafor to.

about??? They had the #11 pick in the 2013 Draft that they used to take MCW, in 2012 they were ONE win in game 7 at the Boston Garden from meeting the Miami Heat in the Conf FINALS…. That summer they gambled on the Andrew Bynum trade & it didn’t work out… They won 34 games in 2013 b/c they lost Igudola & Nic Vucevik so that summer they hired Hinkie… In Just 26 months the dude somehow restocked All the draft picks they lost plus landed an Ish load more & somehow they managed to grab (according to MANY scouts) the Best player in Each of the last 3 drafts (Noel, Embiid & Okafor) – when Hinkie was hired they did NOT even have a 2015 Draft pick?!?!? The Utah Jazz are Still rebuilding on Favors & Hayward who they Drafted 6 & 7 years ago! & Milwaukie has been rebuilding for 25 years!!! Before going .500 in 2015 the Bucks has TEN str8 losing seasons & had ONE playoff series victory in 26 years!!! So what are you talking about??? I’m so sick of writing this on these posts b/c I don;t even like the Sixers but my god do people not Remember what happened before last year??? Stop listening to espn & do some research for yourself… here’s a hint that I live by – if espn starts beating on a team they used to completely Ignore then it’s time for me to do some research b/c that team must be doing something Right… According to espn jordan played 1 against 5 and should have won 18 Titles in a row by himself & Kobe is Solely responsible for the Lakers 3peat from 2000 – 2002… 20 years from now they’re gonna edit Shaq out of any highlights from that time period… If it does not benefit N.Y. Miami, L.A. then espn is pissed… So they must be Very scared about what Phila is doing….. Do some research before you post… It’s ok to disagree but at least know what you are talking about…

They get a full two more years in my book to scrub out and keep getting picks. The fact that Embiid isnt quite panning out is not really their fault, Embiid was like a must take at 3 after Parker and Wiggs were gone.

Patience is key. Their process is not done. If after two years they still dont have a more well-structured young core with potential, and good culture, then I will label the process a bust.

I think the most forgotten problem here is not talent, a young core, health, or player development. As you said, they need a good culture.

Right now, the culture is about develop my stats, my abilities, my strength, my shooting, my defense. They have a reasonably good system in place, but the pieces are all disjointed because there is no we. That does not just magically change when a coach and GM start to decide to build a team together. I think the Sixers are underestimating how this philosophy is being engrained in the minds of these young players, which might make their talents unhelpful when it comes to winning.

Philly was once well-repected as an elite franchise in basketball, but an entire generation of players now consider Philly synonomous with losing intentionally. Players don’t want to go there.

Espressoprodigy, I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said. It’s just my personal opinion that I don’t like their method in professional sport. In any other business model you face bankruptcy.

I do however have a question to ponder. Is Brett Brown’s appointment a genuine case of best person for the job or was he hired to save money until their plan is fully executed and then go and try for the big name coach?

I’ve seen his work in Australia and his work has had a terrific impact so I think he’s a good coach I just wonder now if that’s why he was hired.

This is simply a case of chickens coming home to roost. When I hear things like "Im happy to wait 2 more years…" it makes me think that these suckers love losing.

I support the Jazz…but if their GM said they’re planning to be the worst team in NBA history for 5 years so they can rebuild….I’d swap teams. I’m not watching 82 games of a team trying to lose.

The Jazz did it the right way. They built through the draft and developed the players they got. Hayward (9), Burks (10), Exum (5), Hood (23), Gobert (27), Lyles (12). They got Favors (3) in the trade with D-will. And they have filled in their roster with key other players.

I like Noel a lot, but what are the chances that Gobert is better than Noel as a professional?

Exum has the potential to be really good, but there is a scenario that plays out where Exum actually develops into the least important of their 5 starters.

Joel was the right pick im sorry we missed out on wiggins, imagine a half court of parker okafor alot of firepower.

Joel was right pick and he may be great he may never play we dont know yet.

We are swinging for the fences.

Every first round pick hinkie drafted that played made the all rookie team including payton, and he had a roy.

Thats a good resume we dont want average team utah has no star outside gobert who hasnt done anything. Boston rebuilt and are on the outskirts bucks tanked hard for parker and was playoff contenders not long ago.

Sixers will be better then all of those team we might draft bender, jaylen, and benn next season yes its possible.

Ppl say we are going about it wrong way how? We draft bpa every year and we NEVER HAD WORSE RECORD UNDER HINKIE we have a front office of all stars.

You know why oden roy miles failed with blazers and oneal with pacers. TRAINERS WHERE FORCING RECOVERY DOWN PLAYERS THROAT FROM PRESSURE OF THE OWNERS. They made players think they were healed pushed them out and made them play injured doctors said okay to.

Hinkie is getting bone graft because he researched joel and cares he studied up on african bone density  hes trying to fuse a stronger bone with embiids foot TO HELP HIM PLAY WITHOUT INJURY.

you guys are on the outside looking in we really have a great orginzation things happen gsw drafted 4 big men before splash bros

    Biedrans, wright, udoh, randolph.

    All bust.

Sixers draft one injured player and hes healthy in noel drafted another in joel he needs more time and its a dysfunction.

I tell you this with those 4 picks we have maybe 5 next season pending moves. We will walk away with two of the top 4 wing prospects .

Plus we have money beal didn’t resign yet we could chase him.

The thing people focus on is the today if gsw focused on today when they had monta, udoh, davis.  They would be discontent.

Focus on the goal to win a ship we have focused on our future WE HAVE YET TO WIN LOTTO AND WE HAVE ROY and next year we may have another roy.

Your team future sucks, your owner and city cant stomach the bottom.

Sixers are bought up each years in terms of landing top prospect next year it will be two.

The 76ers ownership of Joshua Harris and co must have signed off Sam Hinkie’s rebuild strategy and so must Coach Brett Brown. I put a lot of the 76ers current issues down to thew Iggy/Howard/Bynum trade where they moved Vucevic, Iggy and some other decent assets.

We don’t know if it was Philly or New Orleans who set up the Holiday- Noel trade.

Hinkie also had to make deals to get picks owed to Miami and Orlando back which he successfully did.

I don’t agree with Hinkie trading MCW and Turner, he gambled on the Lakers pick via Phoenix turning out to be very high, we have yet to see how that works out. But a starting 5 including Turner, MCW, Noel and Okafor for next season would not look too bad IMO.

Also I would have liked them to have got an experienced PG in this summer, they have an opening for the ball carrier which any good PG would look for. It doesn’t have to be a long term deal, Rondo only took one year with the Kings, that sort of deal would be good for both sides. But it gave Philly’s young team somesone who could dictate the pace and find the openings for Okafor and co.

Embiid I agree they had to take 3rd last year and his injuries are a sad incident, Noel recovered from his year out and I guess Philly hoped Embiid would do likewise.

The 76ers have a legit chance of getting 4 first rounders next summer, plus if they can bring Saric over and get Embiid sound then the future may look a lot better this time next year.

I feel that this season again may be a bit of a write off competitive wise even if Okafor and Noel form a very good young frontcourt. Anything over 25 wins would be an out performance by the roster IMO.

I’ve given the Hinkie masterplan time, I don’t agree with some of his moves as I’ve said above. I’m prepared to give it another season or two but by summer 2017 I’d expected to start seeing real results.

In fairness to the sixers and hinkie, they did try to be competitive at first. They had a very solid team in 2011-12 that was only a game away from going to the eastern conference finals. They realized they needed a foundation player to put them over the top and they tried to hit a home run with the bynum trade. You have to remember that bynum was just coming off an all-star season, was just 24 at the time, and was widely regarded as neck and neck with Howard for best center in the league. Most people thought it was a great trade for them at the time. Unfortunately, bynum never played for them and turned out to be a disaster and they had to give up their best player (igoudala) and a very good young center (vucevic) in the process.

Without bynum, the roster that they were left with was basically stuck in basketball purgatory ( not good enough to contend and not bad enough to get a high draft pick). They weren’t likely to attract a difference maker through free agency or a trade, so hinkie made a decision to just bottom out and build through the draft, and trade all their veteran players for picks and expiring deals. Its not an unprecedented strategy, but it has probably never been done this blatantly before. It’s actually a pretty sound rebuilding strategy, but it absolutely sucks for the fans, who are being sold an absolutely awful product. The main problem is that you can’t control the way the ping-pong balls will bounce. If the sixers had lucked into Wiggins last year instead of an injured embiid, I have a feeling people would view the tanking strategy a lot differently right now. I still think they gave up on MCW too quickly though.

I have no issue at all with them taking the risk on Embiid. The positive is that they are being cautious with him and not trying to rush him back. So he is at least getting a chance to be as healthy as possible before playing. You also have to consider that a lot of guys in the lottery don’t pan out. There are always guys drafted that are taken way to high and plenty that never should have been drafted the high at all. I think he had a combination of size, skill, and production that was worthy of the risk. You have to take chances, BUT every guy you take a chance on probably shouldn’t be the organization going for a home run.

Like some others have said, the biggest issue might be the culture. Losing all the time is not helpful to guys growing. They are picking up bad habits and have zero veteran leadership on the team. On top of that every player knows in the back of their heads that they may just become another asset to trade (more so than the average team) and that the plan is to pretty much keep losing for the next few years. No good player is going to want to come there.

A lot of people seem to like Okafor and Noel together. I think Noel helps to cover Okafor on defense, but on offense if Noel cannot develop a decent shot to space the floor, then Okafor is going to be getting killed on double teams. It’s bad enough for a team without much shooting.

I think Sam Hinkie is doing a great job, even more so after this trade with the Kings. They have young players that they drafted/targeted on the roster and developing in Noel, Okafor, and now Stauskis, who Hinkie and Brett Brown originially wanted with the pick that turned into Saric. When Saric comes over,  the big man rotation will be very versatile and they could all mesh. Embiid was the right pick at 3 and hopefully he can still have a career. If just one or two of Jerami Grant, Hollis Thompson, Robert Covington, Henry Sims, and Pierre Jackson prove to be rotation players capable of providing 12-20 solid minutes off the bench, that would be phenomenal.

On top of the young talent, there are draft picks in place. Next year they will likely have their own pick fall in the top 5 and the Lakers pick from the Michael Carter-Williams trade, which I’d guess will fall in the 8-14 range. Then, there’s the pick swap with the Kings in the next two drafts. Great get. There’s other picks that may not be as valuable but that could literally be it’s own topic on this board.

The Sixers also have tons of cap space. Sam Hinkie won’t be giving out long term deals to guys who top out as average role players (Ex. Zaza Pachulia) or anyone who he deems is not a star/doesn’t have star player potential. He will be free to chase the big fish once the roster shapes up, and/or have the assets to make a move for a star. He has the set up to sign or trade for a star, or both.

As people posted earlier, there are and have been a lot of "IFs" with this team but not as many as it appears on the surface. Sam Hinkie wants to build an elite team and I believe Brett Brown is his guy to lead the turn around. I think they want to build a program, similar to the Spurs, but he needs star players to do it. So what if it takes 3-5 years to find the foundational pieces? As a basketball fan, this is much more interesting to watch unfold and is better than watching them become a middle of the pack playoff team led by Jrue Holiday.

At  Some point in time. Its pretty cool to have prospects though. Hopefully they dont get tired of losing or playing for their next deal like most guys on that team will. I like the Oak pic though and that should really payoff. Build around the man and stop trying to suck. If I played for Philly I would build my stats up and work on my game, then find the right team for me. Great farm system idea though Hinkie, i like that.

I think Brown is a good enough coach that was hired at least partly because of his sunny attitude. Hinkie took a long time hiring his first coach, to me it is now clear because he knew this rebuild was going to be painful and he needed a guy that could handle the losing. Not an easy find. I really believe Hinkie will build a winner, with a healthy Embiid or not. That said, I do think it’s important from them to add at least 5 more wins to last years 18. Adding Okafor, Stauskas and a healthy Wroten should do it, unless Hinkie has his eye on yet another year of tanking.

Nik Stauskas was an 8th pick only last summer and he was effectively given to the 76ers for nothing. Coach Brett Brown can have a good look at him this year and maybe give him a good run at SG and the 76ers might just find their SG for the future.

I often say that rookies need to earn their starting spot regardless of where they were drafted but with the 76ers current situation, I feel they need to decide who will likely be on the roster long term and give them as much playing time within reason and get them used to playing together.

If they can get Saric over next summer then they have more options too. Looking at next year’s draft the likes of Simmons and Rabb currently look the best fits in the 76ers likely drafting ballpark. I doubt Simmons would see much time at PF for Philly.

Other decent fits for them could be the likes of Brandon Ingram who will be one of the youngest players in next year’s draft if he declares and he’d have had a year of Coach K to help him develop too.

Jamal Murray could be a natural backcourt fit for the 76ers too and might be the best guard prospect in next year’s draft based on upside.

Hinkie stole Stauskas, and the fact they can switch picks with Sac in both 2016 & 2017, plus potentially the Sac 1 in 2019 unprotected (Cousins may be gone by then) is a huge haul. At the very least Stauskas should develop into a shooter to come of the bench.
