How did the Sixers get two second round picks in that trade without giving up anything?

For taking Eric Maynor and facilitating in the deal, I guess.

Underneath, I stated the picks owned and owed. Realistically, Philly has two 1st round picks (own and Pelicans), five 2nd round picks (own, BKN, HOU, MEM, CLE) with more 2nd rounders coming up in the future. Important task for Sam Hinkie is thinking what to do with all these additional picks? Can he maybe package some for a 1st rounder from a contender (who might shy away from guaranteed money from 1st round picks)?

Philly now owns the following additional picks:
    – New Orleans 1st round, 2014 (1-5 protected until 2019)
    – Brooklyn 2nd round, 2014
    – Houston 2nd round, 2014
    – Memphis 2nd round, 2014
    – Cleveland, 2nd round 2014
    – New Orleans 2nd round, 2015
    – Denver 2nd round, 2016

The owe the following picks to other teams:
    – 2014 1st round pick to Boston (1-14 protected to 2015, will likely become two 2nd round picks)
    – 2014 2nd round pick to OKC (31-50 and 56-60 protected, will probably not be conveyed thus)
    – 2014 2nd round pick to Houston (protected 31-55, very probably not conveyed)
    – 1st round pick to Orlando (1-14 protected in 2016, 1-11 protected in 2017, 1-8 protected in 2018, otherwise two 2nd round picks)

       Nice work thanks.

First time I see this all sorted. I was wondering the same how the 6ers got this picks in this particular trade. I think the Cavs might use two of them and trade the rest on draft day or in sign and trade Deals. With Deng still on the team this might be a Solution how to handle all this picks.

I was going to post the same question. I didn’t realize that you can be a part of a trade without giving anything away
