"If it was truly up to me I will be on the court right now," Carter-Williams said

Hinkie is so frustrating.  MCW is such an exciting player to watch.  It’s a bummer that we won’t get to see him for awhile.

Could you ever see the Sixers trading MCW? There were rumors about trading him and drafting Exum. What players on the sixers do you see getting traded?

This is too much. Lol I think this could hurt MCW’s value especially if Tony Wroten goes and puts up similar numbers or better which is not out of the question.

Pretty sure they did the same thing with Noel’s injury. He could’ve came back last year for like 10 games not really a big deal. Not surprised by this. Also they only averaged MCW 34 mins last year. Patrick Beverly averaged 32. I feel bad for 76er fans.

I’ve been fine with it the past year, but now they are taking tanking to extreme measures. I feel for Brett Brown really to have to play D-leaguers every game. I’ll be surprised if the 76ers win at least 7 games this season. I mean, I’m pretty sure the 76ers would still lose a ton of games with Thad Young or Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen there but they gave up ALL those for basically nothing. Hinkie wants to make sure they lose almost ALL their games and I think that’s too obvious and annoying tank job there.

Also on a side note, doesn’t the league have a minimum salary cap for teams? I’m pretty sure the 76ers are under the cap so don’t they need to sign another player to at least meet the minimum? I’m pretty sure that’s what Orlando did when they signed Channing Frye since his contract starts at a large amount but decreases over the years.

I’m not sure if they’re under the minimum cap, but there’s no real penalty for being under.  They just have to pay their players more if they’re under.  For example, if they’re $10 million under, and have 15 players on the team, they split that $10 million between the 15 players, so basically, the players simply get a raise for the year.

With everyone going on about Sam Hinkie trying to tank the 76ers, has anyone heard anything what owner Joshua Harris’s view on this strategy is or what Coach Brett Brown thinks of it. Harris is obviously a very wealthy and successful man and if his team isn’t doing anything, fans turning away then his investment isn’t looking great. Likewise Brett Brown part of the Spurs dynasty for over a decade must not like having to field a team of scrubs night in night out.

The strategy of the Sixers gives Harris the added incentive of slashing payroll dramatically for 3-4 years. Even if the plan does not work, and even with an empty arena last year, this year, and probably next year, their share of the collective league revenues are in part funding the effort. Plus, he can also bank on there being blind optimism about the team they will have in 2016-17 that will bring people to the arena. The intrigue will play for a year or two, and that time still comes prior to really any of the draft picks getting to their second contract (should they get them).

From a basketball perspective, I am completely confused by how basketball people can evaluate and assess the long-term viability of a player in a system when the team has no system and is more or less going through the motions. The league is awash in players who have failed in one spot and succeeded in a better fit, or players who were successful in one spot and completely out of place following a trade, free agency, or coaching change. In as much as any successful team needs talented players, they also have to have an identity in place so that the pieces fit together. If the Sixers are building for the long-term, shouldn’t they have a vision for how they want to play when they get there? Putting forth what can at times look like a try-out squad does not accomplish much of anything. It is possible that Henry Sims averaged 11.8,2-7-1.8 with Philadelphia last season. For the year and a half leading up to signing with the Sixers, he was on the fringes of the NBA. In the course of Philadelphia losing 60-70 games this season, Sims will probably have a nice stat line, but does that mean when he is a restricted free agent after the season? This turns into the Jodie Meeks situation. Yes, Jodie Meeks earned himself a spot in the NBA. Yes, his abilty to shoot and create his own shot has value. No, that is not why Detroit paid him $18.8million. They paid him because someone had to score for the Lakers last year. Henry Sims is 6′ 10" 250 lbs and has a pretty decent skill set. What is he on a good team, though, and is there anything that will take place during this season with the Sixers that will give us a better sense of that? The base level of competency is not there to make determinations on the Sixers.

It will be interesting to see when MCW returns, with all this talk that Sam Hinkie was shopping him around draft time I do wonder if the injury may be a bit worse than we thought. Although Hinkie seems to have a buy low sell high strategy so if he could have flipped MCW into a top 5 pick this year then that is more realistic.

With the Sixers not going to contend in anyway they will not rush MCW back and at his age a long term view especially on a rookie deal is a no brainer option.

I’ve just noticed on Hoopshype feed that MCW may return around 13th November but that would seem fairly quick.

Very good point by BTTH above, the Sixers have 240mpg to full and even if they only win 15 games then some unsung players will still get good stats and possible better deals elsewhere especially if they have a couple of seasons solid production under their belts when they hit FA. I don’t see Sam Hinkie overpaying for anyone stats padding but other teams might.
