BubbaChuckParticipantI know this is premature, but I just realized that the Sixers could have 3 or 4 rookies of the year in a row. MCW last season, Noel this upcoming season, Embiid next season & Saric the season after (Saric is probably the least likely, but it still is possible). Vegas should definitely have this bet. Any guesses on the chances of this happening? My guess would be 20 percent chance (for 3 in a row).
BTW just one more passing comment/question about the Sixers- Has anyone noticed how the team they may strive to become at this rate is the 80’s Celtics? You got a serious front court of Noel, Joel & Saric. Noel would play the Parish defensive minded center role. Joel, would be Mchale with all his unstoppable moves under the basket and Saric could play the tough and smart Bird role that gets everyone involved. Now I know that this is a dream that’s light years from maybe becoming true, but it’s just a comparison I thought was interesting. In Hinkie we trust!

christebasParticipantIt’s extraordinarily pre-mature to assume such expectations (in my opinion) as you’re counting on 2 bigs coming into the league after missing an entire year of playing, then being thrown into the highest level of basketball in the world. You’re not just asking them to stay healthy for an entire 82 games after serious injuries, but becoming ROY. Yes, MCW was a pleasant surprise, but if I were a Sixer fan, I would be happy just to see Noel compete and stay on the floor for an entire season, let alone be among the top rookies who are coming in from one of the best draft clases in years. I think it would be much more realistic to assume a guy like Parker/Wiggins/Exum/Randle would take home the ROY trophy after the up-coming season. It’s a nice thought however as a Sixer fan π

BubbaChuckParticipantfair enough. You’re right. I know it’s a very improbable scenario… but a possible one. That’s what I think is cool. As unlikely as it is, it’s just cool that there is a possibility of 3-4 ROY’s. Especially since all 4 prospects were taken in a span of only two drafts… having one get to be rookie each season (assuming Joel won’t play this season) in consecutive years.
Truth is that I was expecting to get more criticism for the 80’s Celtics comparison (: but there too, I was just thinking that it’s an interesting thought more than it actually is a 1 to 1 comparison.
All in all it’s just an exciting time to be a Sixer fan. Most exciting since June of 2001. I have a feeling that some day they will teach about Hinkie in GM school.

CanadianGMParticipantParish- McHale – Bird
I see a better chance of Greg Oden-(Embiid), Morrison (Saric), Andre Blatche(Noel)
Let’s not crown them hall of famers just yet.

NeggedNoelSaricIn Hinkie we trust.
I don’t know if noel gets ROY it would be great if he does.
wiggins and parker have the best chance then its randle and exum.those players will get the most mins and wiggins and randle will be on playoffs teams getting starter mins so that’s very valuable when it comes to awards because their winning and not putting up empty stats.
they will field at least 2or 3 rookies in 15 embiid and player x
and atleast 2 or 3 rookies in 16 Saric and player x
so they have a good chance to but I don’t know about this year.0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/29/2014 - 10:42am #929947

SpartanGloryParticipantNoel would have been a top five pick in this draft and has the potential to be ROY if he can get something like 11, 11, 2.5. It’s not likely but possible. Don’t forget about our first round picks in the next two drafts too. Maybe we get mudaiy or oubre next year too. We have tons of talent that’s going to be streamlined into the organization over the next 3 years.

christebasParticipantI think you’re over-valuing Noel a bit as he barely showed any consistent offensive ability during the games he played. Had he been in this year’s draft class, I would think he probably would of went somewhere after Randle (7) up through 10. After playing an entire season, Vonleh seemed to me to be an equal or better prospect than Noel. Noel will be a monster on the defensive end, but he’s yet to prove anything offensively. Ideally he’ll put up Larry Sanders type numbers, but the Sixers will be relying on several rookies who can’t shoot to contribute to the coming season, so I’d be skeptical. Vonleh showed a sweet touch from range throughout the season that Noel never came close to. Defensively Noel’s got the edge but Vonleh’s offensive abilities outshine Noel’s edge on D.

SpartanGloryParticipantThat wasn’t totally just my opinion. Chad ford wrote above Noel in this years draft and said he’d be top 5 easily. I also read another article that got into more advanced statistics, and according to that, Noel could have been #1 pick.

EndlessknightParticipantI think this seasons ROY is going to come down to Noel and Parker and I actually think Noel has the slight edge. Heβs already been living in Philly a year, know teammates coaching staff and even been practicing with the team since March.
With the Sixers being as bad as they are I can easily see him being one of the few rookies to get 30MPG.
0- Posted on: Sun, 06/29/2014 - 11:13am #929824
christebasParticipantwhy wouldn’t Parker/Wiggins/Smart/Randle/Gordon/Payton (what has Orlando to lose) and possibly Exum if he can quickly prove he can really push the Jazz to the next level ahead of Burke get 30MPG?
0- Posted on: Sun, 06/29/2014 - 11:35am #929834
EndlessknightParticipantLast season only 3 rookies got 30+ MPG, the season before that only 2. Of the group you named I would say only Parker is garunteed to 30+ MPG.

EndlessknightParticipantWith Embiid sitting out, Exum never playing anywhere close to this level, Saric staying in Europe and Smart being stuck behind Rondo I doubt if you see more than 3 from this draft class get 30+MPG this season
0- Posted on: Sun, 06/29/2014 - 12:15pm #929854
christebasParticipantThis is a special draft class. First, Smart will play SG and easily get over 30mpg as Rondo can’t shoot and the C’s don’t have a SG. Second and third, why wouldn’t Gordon/Payton get 30MPG – who else is Orlando going to play, as if they have anything to lose getting those guys as many minutes as possible, not to mention Oladipo got over 30mpg Forth, Randle will easily get 30MPG as the Lakers barely even have a roster (even if Gasol comes back which is unlikely Randle will still get serious minutes). Fifth and sixth, Parker and Wiggins will easily get the 30MPG minutes. You’re insane to think otherwise. Who are the Bucks/Cavs going to play ahead of them? The Cavs are not re-uping Deng so the 3 is all Wiggins and please spare me the idea that Bennett will take minutes from Wiggins. That’s 6 guys likely to grab 30mpg. That’s not even considering McBuckets gets the minutes if Dunleavy is traded. Who’s gonna shoot ahead of him, Jimmer? . A few more names that could get serious minutes -Warren, Payne (depending on Hortford’s health) Shabazz Napier depending on what happens in Miami and PJ Jairston – maybe not 30 but serious minutes

christebasParticipantOK amigo, I would say of the 6 guys I named, the only one who might be below 30 is Gordon only b/c he’s so raw. the other guys i’m sticking too: Smart, Randel, Payton, Wiggins, Parker and Exum if Burke blows out his knee π
0- Posted on: Sun, 06/29/2014 - 1:29pm #929882
SwatLakeCityParticipantBurke won’t blow out his knee, at least I certainly hope he doesn’t. Jazz will still play him at point. And they will probably start him still. I’m willing to bet money that the starting backcourt will be Burke and Exum, with Alec coming off the bench as their 6th man to back up Exum. (As a matter of fact if Alec does well enought off the bench he could be the favorite to get 6th man of the year honors. He is a bonafide and dynamite scorer. The award usually goes to those players off the bench) Then I also think midseason, Coach Snyder will opt to change the starting backcourt lineup to get more scoring, defense, bigger, and give opponents frustration by using Exum and Alec as his starting lineup. If that does indeed happen, he’ll probably go back to a backcourt of Trey and Exum in the 4th quarter to give the Jazz a clutch scorer when they need it most in Trey Burke. If that is the case then Exum won’t be getting 30 minutes per game at all his rookie season, more like 20 which won’t help him at all to get ROY. Of course I’d love it if gets the ROY, but I doubt it will. My vote is the obvious pick, Jabari Parker.

hbomb3300ParticipantPhilly plays at a very fast pace which inflates their stats and has almost no veterans to hold back their rookies from getting plenty of playing time so it’s possible. I think after 2 in a row the voters would start to be turned off by Philly though.
