QuickPostCParticipantI just finished watching Minnesota and the inept defense being played by Nikola Pekovic. I think it could be advantageous to look to move him for a more defensive minded center who is a rim protector.
That got me thinking about potential trade partners. It seems to me it would be a good deal for both teams if Minnesota traded Pekovic to the Bucks for Larry Sanders. Pekovic would be able to be unencumbered in the low post on offense while John Henson plays the mid post. On defense, Henson could act as the rim protector due to his ridiculous length and gangly-ness and Pekovic could be the bruising rebounder. Right now Sanders/Henson is remarkably skinny and has trouble with big bodied big men.
For Minnesota, Sanders could be the rim protector and defender next to Love on defense and look for tip ins on offense while Love plays all over the court.
Their salaries are comparable……Sanders starts an extension at 11 mil per over 4 years next year. Pekovic just signed a 5 yr deal worth roughly 12 mil per. Their ages are also close….Sanders is an 88 born and Pek an 86.
Sanders extension does not kick in until next season so I think the teams should look to swap big men in the coming off-season.
*I hate to post a half-baked trade idea on here but I hate watching Pekovic be 3 steps late on every defensive rotation more.*

KHAM83ParticipantI don’t think Sanders could bang in the post for a long time period. When Pek was a FA, I suggested they dealt Derrick Williams to Houston for Asik. Williams could play pf next to Howard. I think they could pursue the same deal for Asik. They could then move Pek in a separate deal elsewhere.

river09ParticipantI like this idea a lot.. Pekovic has absolutely no versatility at all, but he is an animal 6 ft from the rim and sanders would give the wolves a rim protector they desperately need..

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantThat’s a tough one. On one hand, I love me some LARRY SANDERS!!!!!! On the other hand, Pek is the rare big that can outmuscle guys like Dwight, Bynum (when healthy) DMC, Gasol, Hibbert, Lopez. He is a valuable asset. Yes, the Wolves could use some rim protection, but right now though, I think the Wolves need more bench help than anything. I’ve heard they’re actively shopping Shved and D-Will. I hope that can net us another bench scorer.

machu46ParticipantI can’t see the Bucks trading Sanders. It seems that they’re trying to make him the face of the franchise, and he WANTS to be the face of the Bucks.

kngojcParticipantThere’s some stat I saw somewhere (I think it was something like insidehoops) that said that Pek isn’t really all that bad at defense. And when watching closely I can kinda agree. Yeah a combo of him and Love aren’t going to block many shots or be a defensive force, but Pek goes up and challenges shots, and he IS a brick wall when you run into him. I think the stat was that when Pek challenges a shot, the FG% is around 35% or so, the problem is him actually getting up to challenge those shots. While adding Larry Sanders would be great for them, I’d almost prefer keeping Pek and trying to get something more for him and just bring Dieng along more while increasing his playing time.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantI honestly can’t tell what they’re doing with Sanders. Larry Drew seems to hate Sanders, as evidenced by the lack of minutes and random benchings, but the organization just paid him a ton. It’s almost like the Bucks are as badly run as the Timberwolves! Lol

TyroberParticipantSeems like it good be beneficial to both teams, but won’t happen because both teams care about their guys too much to deal them.

King CaluchaParticipantI haven’t seen Sanders this season, but I think Pek really contributes offensively. When either Love or Pekovic are not on the court, Minny is kind a painful to watch. Give the wolves’ short rotation, I’m not even sure how they’re going to fill the gap offensively if they move him.
This team is note terrible. Depth seems to be the problem. I mean… Shved is OK, so is Barea… but come on Dante Cunningham? really?
