valentineWhat is the possibility of Simmons averaging a triple double when he goes pro? Slim…or impossible?
I realise that many great players have tried and been unsuccessful, but Simmons is the only one with a realistic chance of matching Oscar Robertsons record.
What are some other far-fetched…but possibly reachable stat lines by other NBA players.
- How about Steph Curry with a career 50/40/90 shooting line.
- Lebron James as the All-Time leading scorer
- Rudy Gobert – Single Season record for blocks
Any others come to mind?

Chilbert arenasParticipantIf Lebron can’t do it I don’t see Simmons doing it.

SkalAndJamalParticipantThat should really be the motto for all Ben Simmons’ fans out there to help them come back to reality.

ChicagoCaseyParticipantSimmons is a gifted passer for a player his size, but there’s no way he will average a tripple double. John Wall only averaged 6 assist a game in college. so I can’t see him getting 10. I can see his statline being this 16 ppg, 7 rbg, and 4 apg. That’s a great stat line for him/

phila9012ParticipantLebron has to score 27 a game. If simmons finds the right place he could get like 15, 10 and 10. That is a lot different than lebron getting 27, 10, and 10 while guarding the opposing teams best perimeter player. I don’t think simmons would be able to get 10 apg considering only cp3 and wall got that many last year

ChoppyParticipantI’m all for homerism when it comes to our fellow Aussies but come on, even suggesting that is crazy. He’ll be a point forward type – LeBron lite if you will. As Chilbert said, if King James can’t do it, I can’t see Simmons.
As for the others…
Steph Curry – Possible (even likely) to do it at some point
Lebron – depends how his body holds up and how many seasons he plays.
Rudy – not sure who holds the record (or even what it is) so can’t really comment. Henson might be a better bet, 5th in blocks in only 18 mins a game!

ChoppyParticipantRead your question wrong. Curry won’t do that for a career.

evangelion79ParticipantThe record holder for blocks in a season is 456 by Mark Eaten. He averaged 5.56 blocks per game and played in all 82 games. No way in hell anyone in todays NBA even gets close to that record. Thats just insane! Hard to imagine..

Rip256Growing up watching Jazz games, I learned they had very favourable home-team statisticians.
Half of John Stocktons ‘assists’ were dubious interpretation to say the least.
If Mark Eaton swiped at a shot it counted as a block.

whiteflashParticipantThere’s ZERO CHANCE that Simmons averages a trip-dub or that James winds up as the all-time career scorer. Literally no chance at all.

Rip256I think Lebron is on track. If he plays til hes 39…he will clear it by miles.

whiteflashParticipantDude, he’s 15,000 points away from tying the record. He’d have to get 1,500 points a season for the next decade just to tie. He had 1,700 points last season. His offensive game is predicated on bulling his way to the rack, long jumpers and ref bailouts. His body is starting to breakdown, so the only thing he’ll be able to consistently rely on is the ref bailout. There is ZERO CHANCE James breaks the record. Kobe was the only guy with a legitimate shot, but losing the last few years to injuries shut that down. Kareem’s record is damn near untouchable.

Rip256Way to go out on a limb here guys.
So is there a single NBA record that could ever be broken?
3pts…but thats really only cos the 60s and 70s didnt have a 3ptline…otherwise some stupid unreachable record would probably exist for that too.
I hate all those old records. They were only achieved because the standard of competition was so poor. They need to be scrapped.

Champzilla21ParticipantLebron might not become the leading scorer but its a lot closer then ppl realize. But hes still going to put up some crooked numbers when he retires. 30,000+ pts 10,000+ rebs 10, 000+ assists 1000+ blks 2000+ steals

whiteflashParticipantI’d put money that he doesn’t get those. It’s taken him twelve seasons to get 24,913 pts, 6,502 rebs, 6,301 asts, 724 blks, and 1,553 stls. He’d have to maintain his current production for another 6 seasons to hit your predicted goal. Again, there is ZERO CHANCE he gets that. At absolute most he’ll get two of the five you listed.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantIf lebron plays until he’s around 40 and stays relatively healthy I think he has a pretty good chance at kareem. You have to remember that he started at 18 instead of 22 like kareem did which gives him an advantage in a way.
Considering curry has never shot 50% from the field in any season thus far, there is no way he could average 50-40-90 for his career. No way Simmons averages a triple double or gobert breaks Eaton’s record.
