surveParticipantThe surprise of the night. To me however, a bigger surprise to me was that the Knicks being as high as they were on Singleton took Shumpert instead. Its a good defensive pick either way and the Knicks probably needed more backcourt help anyway.
Nevermind the booing from the Knick fans. They booed Fields last year too. Shumpert is a really good player and I think he will stick around a while in the league and I applaud the pick.

G.O.A.TParticipantIt seemed like alot of ppl was high on him on this site now that he got picked high their contradicting his abilities now, or probly jus the Knicks picked him cuz, everytime Knicks pick its real controveresial….. but i can see why the fans would be mad when their were better fitting players on the board for their franchise like T.Harris, J.Hamliton, C.Joseph, M.Brooks IMO. i think Joseph would of fit better if they were lookin for a pg but still you cant be mad at the Knicks if you saw how Shumpert played in college, but besides that we shoulda known knicks were going to take a unexpecting prospect like they did in past draft…. iam not real high on Shumpert but i wish him and the knicks fran. the best

MagikKnickParticipantI like the pick, we need to get better defensively, and Shumpert moves faster laterally than I move walking forward…
I dont know what other Knick fans were expecting…
Harris is a 3/4, he would of rarely seen the court
Hamilton and Brooks are pure scorers..yeah, thats just what this team needs
Faried I wouldnt mind, but he’d get chew’d on the Defensive end
CJoseph I like, but a super reach at 17
Singleton would of rarely seen the floor
and Motie is too soft for my taste,,0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/24/2011 - 4:03am #554070

meisi4Participanti like the pick as well. MagikKnick said it right. the better players weren´t great fits.
and i think shumpert has some upside on offense.
the only thing i did not like that shumpert was a reach that early in the draft. but as i said there were not much better options. maybe i would have liked malcom lee as well there cause i think he is better on offense.
i dont really like shumpert at #17 but in this draft with the guys that were left i like him…

scoutguruParticipantI really wanted to take Singleton who seemingly dropped to us based on what we was hearing pre-draft. But it is true Magicknick, that he wouldn’t have much time since he plays the positions that Amare and Melo play, and those guys are playing close to 40 min a night. Didn’t really think about that.
In regards to Shumpert, I really don’t mind the pick. I like what he brings to the table as just increasing the athleticism and speed and explosiveness of our backcourt. And like the fact that he brings way more offensive potential (yeah, there goes that P word again) than a guy like Singleton. Yes, I know about all his inconsistencies on offense and horrid shot selection but its not so much about looking at 100% of how a guy plays in college but really about projecting guys into roles at the next level. His shot is not broken though and he doesn’t have horrible form on his shot like a Tony Allen and others. I didn’t see him take much stand still jumpers because of all his off the dribble shots but if he can work on that he can be solid playing off our stars. And defensively he’s really something to marvel at, with his ability to get low, in a solid defensive stance and move his feet and use his length to bother guards and get steals, can guard both guards spots and maybe even some smaller 3’s. His size also allows him to absorb contact and not be pushed around. This combination of athleticism and D I feel gives him a chance to compete immediately for a starting spot at the 2 with Fields. I still feel Landry is more of a 3, but w/e.
