Now that the Kings have Rudy Gay, Demarcus Cousins, and Isiah Thomas (who they seem comitted to) should the kings trade thier pick for some veteran bench help to move them towards the playoffs? Maybe trade down to get a couple more role player type pieces and still get a young talent for the bench? I assume they’re going to stick with Ben long term to try to make him they’re starting caliber 2. They need to shore up their defense and/or get some big man depth, so would it be better for them to trade down/away the pick to get some established veterans to fill in team needs instead of unproven, potentially project, rookies?

They definitely need defense, but I think they could also use another skilled ballhandler/passer at the 3/4 position.

Why would they make a Trade right now, they’ve been playing decent basketball, they’re trying to develop chemistry between DMC/Gay and Thomas, Ben Mac is still learning how to play his part and they’ll have an interesting offseason to say the least…

I’d keep all my draft picks until I’ve locked up Thomas and Cousins longterm, even then I’ll want cheap talent around the big contracts of Gay/Cousins and Thomas

The Kings are not in win now mode, they are trying to foster a winning mentality while losing mode…

Keep the picks and maybe try to trade Thomas and Thompson for a Lottery Pick in This Draft, I’d rather have Marcus Smart, Dante Exum or even Zach Lavine on a rookie deal then to overpay for Thomas this summer, Not sure DMC likes the idea of being bad for yet again another year, but they’ll need more around him them Rudy, Isaiah Thomas and Ben Mclemore

The Kings need a player in the mold of Serge Ibaka. I don’t think there’s a way for them to get him from the Thunder, but I feel like he would be the perfect fit next to Cousins. He can play D and alter a lot of shots, but he also has the ability to stretch the floor on offense to make room for Cousins.

Theoretically, a front court of Cousins, Ibaka, and Gay would give opposing teams problems every night.

Are there any players in this draft that are similar to Ibaka, or is there anyone currently in the league that the Kings could get from a trade?

Cleveland traded a top 12 protected Sacramento pick to Chicago as part of the Deng trade. If Sac trades the unprotected version which would be 12 and under they would risk trading first in consecutive years. What if they finish bottom 12 this year and over 12 next year they would lose back to back first rounders and thats not legal due to the Stepien Rule.

why would they trade?  isiah thomas is going into free agency, marcus thorton has 1 year left and rudy gay has a player option.  the draft helps them be pretty flexible.

the one area of their team locked up in their frontcourt with thompson, cousins and landry locked up and williams having another year left.  i wouldn’t be surprised if they end up with one of the pgs or hood.

I didn’t realize they hadn’t locked up Thomas yet. I guess I just thought bringing in another project wouldn’t help them gain any traction since they have a decently built squad that should be able to do well.

Sacramento GM Pete D’Alessandro seems like a smart guy from what I’ve seen of him so I don’t see him trading away a possible high lottery pick at this stage. Once we know where they will be drafting and the organization have had a chance to look at all the players in their draft area and assuming they are outside of the top 3 to 5 then a draft day deal could happen like NOP did with Philly last year. But personally I would think it would be unlikely.

They definitely should not trade their pick.. They really aren’t in a win now mode, and honestly they should continue to rebuild through the draft..
