don042488ParticipantShould a player’s looks be taken in consideration when it comes to drafting someone? I mean the more handsome the guy the more marketable he’ll be, especially if he turns out to be a big time player…For ex: Derrick Rose is a hell of a player and he’s not a bad looking guy, so he’s very marketable…Ladies love Derrick Rose, I know females who don’t watch basketball, but watches Bulls games and buy Bulls’s apparel just because they find Derrick Rose to be cute…No homo (Roy Hibbert’s voice…lol) but I feel with is performance in the NCAA tournament and his looks, I feel Trey Burke is the most marketable guy in this draft…I feel the Hornets should definitely draft him and get rid of Gordon & Vasquez via trade…A Trey Burke & Austin Rivers backcourt would be fun to watch for many years to come

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantI don’t care how pretty the player is if I’m picking a guy to draft. I only care that they can ball.

don042488ParticipantI’m talking about marketing wise and playing wise…The player would obviously have to play good too, it ties in

PlatypusParticipantLike looks matter, look at the size of Payton Manning’s forehead that thing is huge and no Tom Brady is as GQ magazine as it gets for a star quarterback yet when you see most of the commercials its Manning.

Who doesn’t hate New England? He has a point, good looking players are more marketable… and that’s that. Teams obviously do not take this into consideration when drafting or trading for a player though.

David Stern a.k.a. da muthaf@cking leader of da kryptsParticipantNaaah…The main goal of the front offices of the Nba is to win, not to make money. GM’s are regarded based on how their teams perform in the league, not how profitable they are. And besides, no player would be a fan favorite among women if he was a bench warmer, no matter how good looking he is. No woman, with the exception of those who are actually basketball fans, would even know about a guy named Derrick Rose if he wasn’t a superstar. That’s why you don’t see a lot of jerseys saying Korver, Reddick or Sullinger – a few of the good looking but not star players.

aramboneParticipantI’ve thought about this. If Blake was fugly Kia wouldn’t have paid him to dunk over a car, and if Tony Mitchell was better looking he’d be considered the next Blake Griffin.

don042488ParticipantA lot people on here is definitely not understanding where I’m coming from…I’m talking about marketing opportunities/potential team exposure….I know a girl who didn’t know the Pacers existed till she seen them play the Heat in the conference finals, now she’s addicted to them because she finds most of them to be handsome ala Paul George, George Hill, Geral Green, DJ Augustin, and etv

fcb206ParticipantThere are many misconceptions about marketing in the NBA. Plenty of studies have been done. A player’s “star quality” definitely has an effect on road attendance. Bad teams with attendance problems always get a full house when LeBron, Durant, etc are in town. But from a home team perspective, the thing that puts butts in seats and creates a passionate fanbase is one thing: WINNING. For all the talk about how vanilla the spurs and Tim Duncan have been for the last 16 years, it isn’t any easier to get Spurs tickets than Lakers tickets. So no, its completely assinine to draft a player based on looks. Maybe when a star is a good looking dude, like Kobe, it helps them date hotter celebrities or something, but we have the best example of how little looks matter right in front of us. LeBron is a certifiably average looking dude, bordering on funny looking. Not on the level of funny looking as Chris Bosh or Sam Cassel, but have you ever heard a girl (or gay man) say LeBron is hot? heck no.
