I was looking around the draft related sites and boards and noticed something strange, especially after the combine measurements came out. NOBODY is talking about Gerald Henderson, but everyone strangely agrees he is a bonafide top 20 talent in this draft. And it turns out he is a legit 6-5 guard which is going to help his stock tremendously. This is obviously the guy that could fall and give some lucky team the hands down steal of the draft. He’s the perfect sleeper, the guy that you don’t draft in the top 10, but definitely goes in the first round and ends up being better than half the people drafted earlier for a variety of reasons. I agree he should not be drafted top 10, but why is no one mentioning him for their team at 11- 18?

Henderson is not a fun prospect to think about because we have seen enough of him to know what kind of player he should be “a boring, does all the little things right, but don’t give him the ball in the last 2 minutes kinda guy.” He will have a ten year career, but don’t expect him on any all-star teams. That’s probably why there’s not that much buzz.

Yeah that’s what I think too KahlerWilliams. I just wonder when are people (me included) going to learn that the same basic scenarios every year play out and adjust to them? Every year there is this guy that most people know is going to produce, but gets passed over because he played three or four years in college, isn’t flashy, and has “great character”. You look up three seasons from now and usually that guy is contributing solid/good minutes if he’s not a star while the dude drafted at age 19 seven spots earlier is honing his “upside”.

I like him. He has a great mid-range game and improving ball handling. I have him going to Phoenix at 14.

llperez22 I like him in Phoenix too but they probably go in a different direction. Hey do yall think maybe part of the reason Henderson will probably slip is that there is now a strng NBA Duke bias? Coach K doesn’t have the best track record producing NBA talent, which I disagree with, and I HATE Duke! I see Henderson as a really really good choice for the Bobcats.

Duke’s track record is not that great for the NBA, but there are exceptions. It’s kinda like Nebraska football, or what used to be Nebraska football.

Here’s what I really believe. Any guy who has a ton of “upside” but rarely ever shows it, will fail 90% of the time. That’s why I would take one of these “high character” guys. Gimme Eric Maynor over Jrue Holiday. Gimme Gerald Henderson over DeMar DeRozan. Gimme Jonny Flynn over Brandon Jennings. Gimme Tyler Hansbrough over B.J. Mullens. Call me crazy and safe, but at least my guys will be in the NBA in five years.

If he had a more respectable outside shot, Henderson would warrant a lot of attention. But there’s already a hot prospect who’s an athletic wing that can guard the perimeter and slash to the basket, but can’t hit outside jumpers – his name is Demar Derozan, and he’s bigger and faster than Henderson.

He’s a good pick in the late lottery.

Duke doesn’t have a good track record for success in NBA players? Everyone has misses and busts, and Duke has had it’s fair share with Laetnner, Redick, and Langdon but that should be accepted and understood because every college had busts. I just don’t see the theory that Duke or Coach K hasn’t developed NBA players. Elton Brand has a career average of 20-10, Carlos Boozer is a 2 time all-star, Shane Battier is a premier defensive wing, Luol Deng averaged 17 ppg in two straight years before injury this year, Chris Duhon had the 10th most assists in the NBA this year… all these players played positive roles on their teams. The notion that Duke doesn’t develop good NBA players is a little too 1995 for my taste. This decade, Duke has done very well for themselfs with pros whose game translated just fine to the NBA.

That being said, I think Geralds going to be a good player in the league, someone who plays great defense and gifted enough on the offensive end to average around 15 ppg. If he’s the best player on your team, you won’t be able to win a championship, but I don’t think that the team who is drafting him will expect that. He would be a very good third option offensively for a playoff team and his defense makes him more valuable than that. Many teams would be happy to have Gerald Henderson.

I like him at the next level in the right system. Maybe a Michael Redd replacement in Milwaukee? That’s just what I see happening.

I think he like Dahntay Jones too, but he is more talented on offense. He reminds me of Gerald Wallace (for a lack of a better comparison)
