Stojakovicfor3ParticipantThe Atlanta Hawks have made an offer to Shaquille O’Neal that starts at $5.8 Million. He is strongly considering accepting it.

Stojakovicfor3ParticipantI don’t know why they would want him for 2 years which would make him 40 in his last year

TRC1991Participantbig lineup:
PG-Teague or Bibby
SG-Johnson
SF-Smith
PF-Horford
C-Shaqregular lineup:
PG-Teague or Bibby
SG-Johnson
SF-Williams
PF-Smith
C-Horfordi like it, shaq will provide some solid post D for a team weak up front

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantShaq is a big defensive presence.
I think right now, he would be a good fit. They need a big man who could play for 15-20 min a game.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantHorford natural position is the 4 and I think he is more comfortable playing the 4 so its good for them.

JNixonParticipantI’d like Shaq for 1 year. 2 years? Ehh….Questionable to me. Nothing out of play with the Hawks though, they may just give him 3 years lol
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/05/2010 - 3:19pm #347135
Tdvols123ParticipantHe can still compete and gives them much needed postseason experience.

McDunkinNot sure how smart that is on the Hawks part, but it would be a chance for me to finally see my favorite player of all time play in person…even if he is half of half of half of the shaq he used to be.

mgreener_34ParticipantTwo years really isn’t that bad. Keep him for a year, and if it doesn’t work out you now have one of the biggest names in basketball as a 5.8 million dollar trade chip. People love Shaq still, fans and teams alike.

omphalosParticipantI like this move, not only does Horford get to move to the 4, but Smith can bring his crazy athleticism against SFs, instead of being matched up with taller 4s all the time. Oh, and it gets Marvin Williams to the bench where he belongs.

ZeroParticipantThis is the same reason the Cavaliers got him. To stop Dwight. After getting sweeped by the Magic, I’m sure the Hawks don’t want to lose like that ever again. Dwight is just way too strong for Horford and adding Shaq will help, coming off the bench, defending the bigger guys.

doubledribblerParticipantWouldn’t the Hawks “Big Lineup” have Johnson at the 1? Technically he’s not a pg but he handles the ball so much he could sporadically play as the primary ball handler alongside maybe Jamal.

bkb77ParticipantI like it he gives them a big presence on D, he can still handle dwight, he’s still arguably one of the top 10 most popular player in the league, so he will draw in more fans, & 2 yrs at the MLE isnt bad cause after 1 yr it’s still a nice trading chip for cap room & also for a team to take him as a dog & pony show to sell more seats. Also I heard on first take today that Boston is also interested in him & I think that might be a better option for him he could start cause perkins is injured & they have a legit chance at a title.

sheltwon3ParticipantThis would give them the Center they need to where they can play Hoford at power forward so it makes a lot of sense but Shaq will definitely keep his option open

scoutguruParticipantHeard them say on ESPN earlier that there not interested in moving Horford to powere forward and that they’re happy wit him at Center. I doubt the veracity of that, being that Horford was clearly overmatched by the Dwight Howard’s and other bigger tough Center matchups at times. It would behoove the hawks to get a guy who at least can guard centers and be a presence in the middle while moving Horford to his more natural 4 position, which he was drafted to play.

bobbybParticipantI think Horford can be a 4 man but can Josh Smith be a 3?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/05/2010 - 7:46pm #347276

JNixonParticipantJosh can play the 3, but he’s clearly best suited as a PF, where he relies less on his perimeter game and can use his quickness and extension to score around the rim. The reason he emerged so much this past season was because Mike Woodson made the only smart adjustment in his life and put Josh Smith at PF and Marvin Williams at SF, after it being the other way around for about 3 years.
Josh Smith is being shopped though, and so is Marvin Williams.

Anton123ParticipantIf they shop Williams and Smith, they should try and get some three point shooters, especially with Teague on the point, Shaq and Horford would be a great big man duo

nl2niceParticipanti like it for the hawks and i don’t see the big deal with the two year thing. kevin willis, robert parish, and kareem abdul jabbar all played past their 40’s. i think the celtics should take a look at shaq too. with rasheed retiring and perkins out til probably december they could use a big
