AwardedBallerParticipantShabazz is doing really well lately and it seems like many of his naysayers have nothing to say now he’s proving himself. The man’s work ethic has proved us right because this man is giving the effort of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and showing a unique scoring ability as he scores mostly on pure effort (box outs to put backs, running the floor) and shooting. With an increase in ball handling and a slightly quicker first step, how high is his ceiling?

he_gets_bucketsParticipantI love how all the naysayers a few weeks ago were saying that "oh he falls in love with his shot too much" and that he isn’t very efficient, bruh have you even watched him play? All his shots are off rebounds or in the flow of the offence. I think he can be a very high level role player, I don’t think you want him as your number one option, but he can be a great weapon as a sixth man, or as a 3rd/4th option on a playoff team.

OhCanada-ParticipantShabazz haters went hard. I had to defend him a bunch of times especially here. Talking trash about his family, his age, weight, athletisism, being a lefty, bad decision making, a ball hog. Just too much.
Truth is Bazz was an elite prospect that didn’t develop into his projection. Since he has realized he needed to work hard he has worked hard enough to once again turn himself into one of the highest upside young players in the league.
Shabazz has already shown outstanding sixth man potential and is proving his doubters wrong. He plays with fire in his eyes and will continue to work. He’s starting to rack up assists too.

OhCanada-ParticipantAnd I’m bold enough to say Muhammad is going to be a star player he is going to be Minnesota’s 1st option going forward and he will excel in that role. This is slowly turning into his team in a way.
Bazz has that rare killer gene. The ice water in the veins coldblooded clutch gene which is just a way to say he is fearless. In contrast Wiggins has not shown to have this gene. Also I think Wiggins being on this team really helped Shabazz. Both players were #1 in their classes and Bazz’s class is senior to Drew’s. If you had told me these two would be on the same team 2 or 3 years ago I’d be drooling, why has that changed. Its still the same two guys.
Minnesota has a very bright future and Shabazz is going to start scoring TONS of points. Just watch.

r377ParticipantI haven’t seen the Wolves play much this season, but he has been lighting up the boxscores the past week/fortnight.
Where is omphalos ? He will be pitching a tent over this thread…..

sheepish_moParticipantI’ve been watching him a lot since i managed to pick him up off the wire in a dynasty fantasy league about a month ago and he’s quickly becoming one of my favourite players. He seems to do all the things you want on and off the court, his body language and work ethic seem really good and i can definitely see him developing into a 20+ ppg scorer in the league for many years to come. Such a steal for the Wolves at 14 in what was a really average draft.

omphalosParticipantHaha I haven’t been posting much lately, but I have been very pleased with how Bazz has performed and I think I’ve been validated in my belief that he was better than Ben McLemore as a prospect.
That said, I’m not convinced he’s going to reach star level yet.
Its nice to see his athleticism back, but his handle has not returned with it and he is still VERY left-hand dominant.
If he can improve his first step, rediscover the improved shooting from 3 he showed in college and develop his right hand/handle then he could meet the lofty expectations that people had for him.
I think the best thing about him is how well he moves without the ball, which is a grewlat starting point for a young scorer.
As an aside, Wiggins, Lavine, Rubio and Bazz on the same team, these are all dudes I’ve been firm believers in and its great to see them on the same team and I think they can all fit very well together.
Rubio sets up everybody, Lavine is 6th man, Wiggins is a super 3 and d guy, and Bazz is the hustler who gives them an edge.
Also, great to have a coach who is actually playing his young guys.

omphalosParticipantAnd in a twist of fate, my Celtics are building around guys I’ve never bought into with the exception of Young: Smart, Olynyk (bleck) and Sullinger (who was good value at that position).
The Olynyk pick is what really frustrated me… we could have had Giannis or Bazz, but Ainge thought "lets call someone the next Pippen and then NOT draft him for a t-rex armed, non-athletic, OLD, big man who has no defensive ability to speak of".
Hard work being a Celtics fan these days.

Meditated StatesParticipantIf he is near 20 the team sucks. He is a solid player who works hard on the O glass and takes advantage of mismatches in the post. If he is near 20 the team will struggle. He scores 1 way mainly and it does not result in others being better. I like Bazz though.

jaysmith1987ParticipantShabazz is only in his second pro season in the nba. I think a lot of people gave up on him because of last year and the fact he was 20 instead of 19 coming out as a prospect. Truth is he’s having a pretty good sophomore year. If I was the wolves I trade Rubio and let lacing develop into a 1 because he has crazy potential then I let wiggins play the 2 and shabazz play the 3 with Bennet at the 4 and deny at the 5 I trade pekovic to a team in the east maybe try and temp the nicks for a first round pic. The wolves need to let their young players play 3 years from now the wolves can be a serious threat. They have a lot more talent then Philadelphia they are just a few years of development and the right role players from being very good.

Ebown5ParticipantI never defended or attacked him, as he was never really on my radar.
However, I love these types of stories in sports. He was a highschool star that got punched in the mouth when he went to college(or at least made to look like a one trick pony) and then left too early for the NBA. He struggled and people started calling him a bust.
He just kept his head down and worked, and that hybernating allstar talent started to show itself again. It gives hope to every young player in the league that struggles with the transition.
Player development in the nba often isn’t linear, in the sense that you can measure it step by step. It often comes in breakthroughs. Someone CAN’T compete, and then they improve and suddenly they CAN compete.
As a Sixers fan, this is why the team keeps rotating out marginal players and accumulating second rounders. Not that I am comparing them directly to Shabazz who was an obvious talent, but the Sixers are banking on their skills to recognize and develop talent.
Lots of players are underrated because of the current state of their skills. They aren’t good enough to compete so they are often not even given the chance to improve themselves. The team is able to see lots of players and try to get them to improve to the point that they break through.
Being a first round pick means that the drafting team is stuck with the player for a few years even if they struggle coming out of the gate. Second rounders that can’t compete are usually just cut, but some of those cut second rounders end up getting better eventually.
