The Rockets seem like their close to getting Dwight Howard, trying to acquire 4 first round picks, with two of them being in the early lotto…They have their eyes set on Drummond, with the first lotto pick they acquire…Billy King is a fool, he should’ve done the same thing, instead he used the 6th pick to acquire a declining Gerald Wallace…smh

The pieces are in motion, but what happens if Dwight doesn’t stay there long term? Just such a risky move…. I wonder why Dwight is thinking about right now.

You’d imagine the trade would have to occur before draft day so as Orlando has more liberty with their picks, rather than getting the guys Houston traded.

Dwight in a Houston uniform doesnt look good in my mind, can only ever picture him in the Orlando blue.

That’s what Dwight reportedly thinks: he won’t stay in Houston.

If I’m the Rockets I either try to move up the board or I trade some of these picks for another very good player (Josh Smith? Iguodala? Deng?), but I certainly don’t trade for Dwight Howard.

Personally, even though I’m not a Rockets fan, I wish them not to try to acquire D12. I’ve got the feeling that what they are doing is similar to what the Nets have done for D-Will, and I don’t want them to be in the same situation than the Nets are in right now.

I don’t see this as a terrible play for either team.  Orlando can build quick with multiple picks this year.  Houston has a great organization and would have a legit (though not huge) shot to resign, whatever Dwight’s people say.  And if not…one fun year and then on to rebuilding from the bottom.  That is where they were likely heading anyway.

But hey, see which assets Houston ends up gaining in the next few days for the trade.  Maybe they decide to keep them in the end and build for themselves.

The Magic could always trade Dwight to the Nets for their next 10 1st rounders ..HaHa.

I think the Rockets should just keep the picks and develop them, ala like the Thunder…The Rockets could become like the Jazz, a young up and coming team

Yeah I’ve already seen on NBA.com where he specifically said no chance he’d resign with Rockets, so why spend assets for one season? It’s not like they’re going to instantly win a championship even with him. In fact I’d be surprised if they even made it past the second round.

If they seriously end up acquiring four 1st round picks they should use every single one of them…not trade them.

Considering the new rule and how the Rockets have been, I like this move.  I mean if he leaves than they have a lot of money and they still have some pieces so it not like they will be left with nothing.  Also they can always do a sign and trade for a player and a trade exception.

There isn’t a chance in hell I’d trade 3 or 4 1st round picks/Lowry/Scola for a year of Dwight.  I’d rather go after Josh Smith or try to move up into the top 5.

The problem for the Rockets is that they don’t have that much room for these picks. In fact, they have 4 upcoming free agents and 2 of whom they will want to resign (Lee and Dragic). Of course, they can and maybe should get rid of others like Diamon Simpson, Greg Smith or Courtney Fortson, they also traded away Budinger but my point is that there isn’t space for 3 kids to play. Even though Parsons was a good surprise, just look at what Marcus Morris experienced last season.

To me, the Rockets are a team full of good, but not great players. Apart from the 3 players mentioned above, everybody really belongs to the NBA, apart from Morris who is developing. Now to me it is a matter of getting quality over quantity, and to do that I feel that they should rather think about trading these picks or some of their players for more established, close to elite players. I’ve mentioned guys like Josh Smith or Iggy, not Dwight as it makes no sense if he doesn’t want to stay.

The Houston Rockets are in a very good position towards rebuilding. Now they just have to make the good moves.

I don’t see the Rockets mortgaging so many assets for a player who certainly won’t stay when the year is out.

they are not rebuilding a .500 team. Who does that? they’ll make a big move – the picks and assets fot a big fish

something significant is about to happen in Houston!

Question, if the Rockets trade Kevin Martin, won’t they have the cap space to sign Deron Williams?  I may be wrong, but I’m not sure.

If I was a Rockets fan I’d rather them acquire the 5 pick and Evans or Josh Smith over Howard who you know won’t return. Even if the decide to trade him later they won’t get as much because everybody will know they are desperate to not be left with nothing.

I hope these picks aren’t to acquire a Pau Gasol or Dwight Howard. Too old or too unsure if he will resign. I don’t know what they have in mind for these picks.

What do they have. 14,16,18. 3 picks in the teens will not get you that much. A team like Toronto or G State at 7 or 8 may send you there pick for all 3 of 14,16,18. NO may send you #10 for two of your picks. The Hawks are not trading Smith for anything less than a lottery pick. I guess they just like the draft. Honestly, Houston has talent right now without making trades a bunch of young talent is not going to help them get over the hump so they must be trying to get some veteran talent but a bunch of picks in the teens are not going to get you Josh Smith and not even close to Dwight Howard.

If I’m Houston, I tempt a team like Charlotte to bite on K-Mart, Scola, and Chandler Parsons for the second pick, and them go to New Orleans and try to see what you can do with the 2nd, 14th, 16th, 18th and Kyle Lowry for Anthony Davis. It’s an extremely risky move that won’t happen but that’s what I’d do in 2k, lol.

They could sign Deron Williams, and trade for Dwight Howard. They have the cap space.

They have a team option for Samuel Dalembert. They could waive that, be down to $24 million for next season. Theoretically, they could have signed both if they were both free agents if they would do that. They’ll have the space for two max deals.
