I honestly don’t understand why this site and every other draft site is so low on Scott Machado. He is one of the best passers on college basketball, he is a better scorer than Kendall Marshall yet he can pass just as well as he can. He may play for a small school, but I don’t care what school you play for, if you can pass that well than you deserve to be in the first round. Usually when mid majors have a point guard as their star he has to do all of the scoring and consequently his passing skill is masked. But not true for Machado, he doesn’t have to do all the scoring, this I believe is what makes his passing even more elite. He is still able to get just as many assists as Marshall can, if not more, with worse teammates than Marshall has. There is no Harrison Barnes on Iona, there is no Tyler Zeller or John Henson either. So seriously what does Scott Machado have to do to be considered a first round prospect? He is in my book for sure.

Here are his numbers: 13.6 points per game, 5.2 boards, 10 assists, 1.5 steals, 42% 3 point shooting, and 49.8% FG shooting. He doesn’t turn the ball over too many times either only 3.3 turnovers verses 10 assists. Great assist to turnover ratio. If those numbers aren’t first round worthy than I don’t know what is. Again, I don’t care who you play for, mid major or not, those numbers have to jump out at you, and are certainly first round worthy. The fact that he plays for a mid major makes his assists numbers even more impressive, and for that reason he belongs in the first round.

I dont watch much NCAA but i also question why Casper Ware isn’t on this draft board. I know he is small, I know this. But he can ball with the best of them. He puts up #s against everybody and he is the focal pt of every teams D every game. Can someone who watches college explain this.

You act like he is better than Marshall…  If he played for NC, I see his turnovers going up, his points decreasing, and his assist numbers would be all around.  Mid major does matter, just not always, he probably should be higher but still his stats would be completely different playing for NC or something.

No I agree Machodo is better then Marshall and here’s why.  Marshall’s main claim to fame is that he’s an amazing ball distributor, but he can’t shoot, isn’t a great athlete, and because of that doesn’t have the foot speed to defend the more athletic guards when they’re on their game.  Well Machodo is like Marshall without those weaknesses.  He can shoot, he’s a nice athlete, and he’s everybit the distributor Marshall is.

Marshall has a 6th sense for assists I saw it while he was in H.S.  But at the same time look who he’s passing too.  Barnes is shooting over 45% from beyond 3, and Henson and Zeller are both great finishers in college who convert at a high rate.  If you put Scott Machodo on N.C. he get’s the same assists numbers but he’s also a very good shooter in his own right and would space the floor for N.C. even more making them that much more dangerous.

Here’s a great article breaking down Machado’s game on CBS where they were asking if he’s the best PG in the country:http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/26283066/33580763

And that was written a few months ago.

Iona is playing in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a Big East recruit in Glover, an Arizona recruit in Lamont Jones, a senior point guard, two more juniors in Ridley and Smyth, and two more seniors in Jenkins and Dezouvre. That makes for a really good mid-major NCAA team that may very well get to the second weekend. Machado is a big part of the success they are having and will have in March, but  nice isn’t on the level of Marshall. Take a look at what Machado shot and his turnover numbers facing a better non-conference schedule the past two years. Those games existed too. It is not as if the great games against Purdue, St. Joe’s, and Maryland are the only games he has ever played against decent teams. Marshall, at an earlier point in his college career, is ahead of where Machado was then and ahead of where Machado is now. The season Rubio has had should drastically help Marshall’s case for the lottery (with people who somehow fail to realize that Jason Kidd has had three acts to his career that extended beyond his ability to move because he knows how to run an offense). Machado can certainly help his case in March, but there should still be healthy doubt given the soft schedule Iona has had this year. If he has a big tournament that shows his true growth as a player, it will not matter one iota where he is regarded right now. The same goes for if he flops. Jared Jordan got hyped and drafted coming out of the MAAC as well, and while he has had a decent European career was not someone who justified that pick in either the summer league or preseason chances he got. The MAAC schedule paired with only a few good non-conference games leaves a lot to be desired.

you do relize his no step vert was 14 and his max vert was 30 I dont care if you put up 40 in college at the pg you are gonna struggle with that lack of athletism. For example Gerry McNamara had a no step of 25 and a maz of 32 and he was a terrible athlete. Jared Jordan is proablly the worst athlete to ever get drafted at the pg spot. The average pg in the NBA has a no step of 30 and a max of 35. The elite athlete’s have a no step of 35 and max of 40+. Plus Jared Jordan had the shortest arms in history one of the few winspans who were smaller than the players height  no wonder the Clippers took him I doubt he was on anyone eles draft board. Machado however has a long wingspan 6’5ish and ever since getting into shap this year he is proablly gonna test a little above average Damian Lillard and Machado are rare they are the mid major guys who are good athletes great in Lillard’s case who is a truly gifted athlete.

Jared Jordan had no business getting drafted like Jesse Sanders from Liberty this year. Who is a very simlar player Sanders should be a terrific euro-league player but he should not get drafted even though he is a great pg.

comparing Machado and Jordan just makes you look really uninformed

But I do agree he plays with a hell of a team look for IONA to do some damage in the tourney. Then Machado along with Lillard to be terrific pros.

do Jared Jordan every put up 15 and 10 on Purdue or 15 and 15 on Maryland???

      http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements.php?page=&year=All&source=All&sort2=DESC&draft=0&pos=1&sort=

pg pre draft measurments Jordan is on there he clearly is the worst athlete at pg to ever be even considered for a draft.

Yea he is by far better than Kendall Marshall. Playing alongside a team of All Americans can boost your appeal. Kendall is a true PG but he can’t create his own shot or hit a open 3 . If Machdo had went to a bigger school who’s to say his numbers would go down..I think they’d stay somewhat the same

I have Machado and Damian Lillard as top 12 picks Machado is going to be a terrific pro. One of the few players who plays both ends of the floor and has some of the best vision along with ablity to score on his own

    As a soph

17 points and 7 assists @ Notre Dame

As a junior 19 points and 4 assists @ Seton Hall

9 points, 11 assists, and 5 rebounds @ St. Johns

15 points and 10 assists @ Old Dominion

    As a senior

    11 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds @ Minnesota

    21 points, 8 assists, 8 rebounds @ Arkansas

26 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds vs Old Dominion.

Jordan also had bad games in the NIT, but feel free to check out Machado’s games against FSU, Baylor, Creighton, UConn, Cleveland St, Syracuse, and all of last year’s CIT. It is not as if Machado is a freshman who has never played before this year.

Once again, I am not saying Machado is someone to be dismissed, but a few good unscouted games in November and excellence in an overmatched MAAC does not make him Kendall Marshall. Machado is someone who should go to Portsmouth, and that is regardless of how he does in March.
