Robb_CParticipantThis move completely reeks of the Wizards trying to position themselves for Durant.

GBeeParticipantA team with crappy offensive design that struggles executing down the stretch of games hires a coach with no offensive design who sucks at calling plays and couldn’t get his team to execute in end game situations. Sounds like a great fit.

SubZeroParticipantWhether they get KD or not, he’s still a better coach than Randy Wittman.

OhCanada-ParticipantNot sure how I feel about this. It has to be a play for Durant as mentioned by the OP. Not only that but Brooks had to coach somewhere right he can’t just stay unemployed because he is too good for the Washington Wizards or doesn’t fit their dynamic his job is coaching and they need a coach.
As far as the team goes the offense is basically run off of pick and rolls through John Wall and Gortat with lots of spot up shooters around him and a dynamic triple threat scorer in Beal. I’m not sure that would be a great match for Brooks. With that being said Washington is a playoff calibur team that in spite of an injury plagued season still finished just shy of the playoffs and after they acquired Morris finished the season very strong. Not a bad place to go coach.
Brooks isn’t an X’s and O’s type guy but he is a master at motivating and Washington did seem to lose a lot of their fiery will to win after losing Pierce. Maybe he can fill that void.

joe2324Participantif the Thunder somehow lose in the first round or even 2nd, I can see Durant joining the Wizards with Brooks next year.

Hype MachineI dont mind Brooks.
Its hard to call plays for Durant and Westbrook when they just do what they want anyways. Especially down the stretch. Those 2 guys are talented but not team-first. The Spurs and Warriors trust each other. OKC dont.
Theres no ball movement or off-ball movement. Just standing around watching those 2 stars. And since nothings changed under Donovan, Its clear to me that KD and Westbrook are uncoachable. Talent only gets you so far. Team-play puts you over the top.
I’m gonna give Brooks a chance to see what he can do with a different roster. He’s definitely not a bad coach.

OhCanada-ParticipantUncoachable is a bit of a stretch considering they are 1st and 2nd team all NBA talents.

JordoParticipantNot saying Brooks is the worst coach out there but it just smells like wizards want to stay mediocre. Brooks will not fix the wizards boring offense if anything they’ll get back to where they were last year being really solid defensive team with spotty offense. Not a great move for a team trying to make it over the hump but I’d expect nothing less from Ernie Grunfeld.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantWizards needed a good coach and now they’ve got one whether it brings Durant or not. I love Durant as a player and wish he was on my team but he hasn’t won one in OKC yet. It is a team game and players need to fit together. Very rarely is it the big time freeagent that leaves a team and wins a championship unless they do what happened in Miami.
I think if Durant leaves OKC it will be for San Antonio. The team, coach and winning culture is already solidly in place and Durant would be a piece… not necessarily the piece. LA would kick his ass. New York would kick his ass… Boston might work… He would screw up Golden State… just my old ass weak take on it.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThis is off topic but does anyone think Jeff Van gundy will ever coach in the NBA again? He’s been out of the league for a long time and it would probably take a pretty strong offer to lure him back, with at least some type of dual role similar to what his brother has in Detroit. However, I always looked at him as a very good coach, and liked the way he was able to adapt his style to get the best out of whatever roster he had. If I were Sacramento I would seriously consider trying to lure him. Maybe he could straighten things out there.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantThere is a better chance of a monkey jumping out Van Gundys butt than ever accepting the Kings mess.

ExumInfernoParticipantAn interesting development, the team where Durant is from now have the coach who guided him for most of his NBA career. A good gamble for Washington, maybe it gives them a tiny bit more chance of Durant, and if that doesn’t happen they got a coach who has been to the finals, and as a player did win.

nath09ParticipantLike Oh Canada said I’m also not sure about it. If it is a play for Westbrook and it works he’s the best coach around because he just pulled you your best player.
I’m indifferent about the signing but I’m not sure I like the 5 years. I think that is maybe a year or two too many.
