There is a basketball documentary coming out entitled "Manchild" about the legend known as SCHEA COTTON.  Schea has a pretty interesting story…and quite frankly, an all to common one.

I wrote the opening paragraph, but the article was written by Ronnie Flores from ESPN Rise.

The videos of him when he was in his early years of high school were pretty impressive.  You can see why current NBA players like Baron Davis, Tyson Chandler, Ron Artest and Elton Brand thought he was a "CAN’T MISS" prospect for the NBA.  Like I say in the opening paragraph…"there are NO guarantees in life."

Sometimes Recruiters forget to add a player’s basketball IQ,work ethic and attitude when analyzing some kids…The Lack of those things, sometimes plays more in a player’s success than talent does…

But Shea Cotton was 1 of the most powerful dunkers i’ve ever seen…

Schea Cotton was a monster, everything they are saying in the interview is true. I  remember when Schea was in the 8th grade, the was a hbo special on him, talking about about how nike was sponsoring him. In the 8th grade people were saying he was as good as anyone in the nation regardless of class. I really dont understand why he didnt get drafted. He put up decent numbers at Alabama and he was a great athlete. I have seen alot less talented players get drafted.

I will admit that Schea fail off as he rose in grade level. One reason was his work ethic and I think also that some of his peers caught up to him physically and talent-wise. Nevertheless he was certainly a NBA talent without question.
