OhCanada-ParticipantWith Isaiah Thomas moving on to play in Phoenix who takes over the majority of the PG minutes in Sacramento. Ray Mccallum has shown alot of promise and Collison has been signed in as likely the starter. How do you see this developing?
I think they were serve as a great one two punch for the Kings at PG and even play a bit together at times. I think Collison will stay steady at about 28mpg and Ray at about 26mpg. Ray could breakout this year.

the I in winParticipantRay been impressive in summer league two years in a row. I like him but I can’t ever place those tiny guards, to many fail for me to have confidence in most of them. I think Collison starts the beginning of the season but his ineptitude leads to some other avenues being explored like McCallum.

the I in winParticipantLast I saw Mccallum he was around the same size as Nick Johnson who I consider tiny. I realize as a PG size standards are slightly smaller but if Johnson is small I can’t logically consider Mccallum big. Also Mccallum "plays small" he doesn’t go pounding into people but rather is shifty and avoids people on his way to the basketball. Lastly I love that you pick one small part of the comment that is kinda unrelated to the topic at hand and put it on blast instead of adding content to the thread. You can point our my mistake if you like but maybe add something about the PG situation in Sacramento.

bigtymer32Participantdarren collison will get most of the mintues .if ray can learn to run the offense he can eventually take the starting job.he’s more of a combo now .with cousins and gay getting most of the shots they need a player to space the floor.don’t be suprised if you see them trying nik stauskas play a little point.

JordanC20ParticipantHonestly I don’t think it will work out too good…Collison has had his best years as a back up point guard and McCallum is far off from where he needs to be.

Lafferty DanielParticipantWatched McCallum during the summer league. He stepped up big time and his shot looked great. Would’ve liked to see more assists/steals, but the potential is there. He’s smart and you can tell that he’s a coaches son. There is a reason why the Kings let Thomas walk. Ray is their future at PG.

TRC1991ParticipantBoth are backup-level point guards. Expect another dismal deason in Sac-town.

Lafferty DanielParticipantMcCallum just turned 23. I think we need a larger sample size before we can label him a backup.

tuck243ParticipantDoesn’t make sense to sign Darren Collison as your starting PG… He doesn’t do a much better job defensively than IT and damn sure isn’t the offensive threat as him… I see another lottery year for them, hopefully they get Mudiay to fall to them next year… I’ve seen enough of McCallum (who averaged 20 minutes per game last year) and Collison to know that they aren’t starting PG’s in this league…

B-ball fanParticipantThey should have kept IT. Phoenix got him for a really affordable contract (4/27). Skrimping on paying IT to execute that sign-and-trade was silly. Collison is not going to be nearly as good and it is unlikely McCallum is either. IT just continues to be underappreciated.

JoeWolf1While neither PG is particularly exciting, I think the two of them can do a pretty solid job.
I think Thomas is obviously the better basketball player, but Sacramento ranked dead last in the NBA last season in assists. The ball stuck way too much, whether it was Thomas, Gay or Cousins. Collison can spread the ball around more and not need 15 shots for himself.
As a tandem they’ll probably be a boost for ball movement, and Collison has carried a better A/TO ratio than Thomas throughout their careers. The Kings will miss Thomas’ ability to create for himself, and his 6.3 assists per game. It’s not like IT was a poor distributer, I just feel having a shoot first PG when you have Gay and Cousins on your team probably isn’t the best for overall ball movement.
This is a glass half full perspective. There’s no way around the fact Sacramento lost a very good player and is replacing him with a tandem of inferior players, but I think they can make it work, although eventually they’ll have to upgrade if they’re hoping to get back to the playoffs. They won 28 games last year, and I don’t think they’ll do any worse this season, I’d bet on them at least hitting 28 again, if not upping their win total to the low 30’s.
