sacphil_08ParticipantAs a kings fan, i can say that i’m excited; the addition of jimmer will help in all aspects i do believe. He’ll add a shooting threat that we havent had since Peja Stojakavic, he brings a high basketball IQ as well, and i believe his passing skills are underrated. I think tyreke will have a "bounce back" year (although i think a lot of guys would kill to have a "bad" season where they averaged 18 ppg, 6 apg and 5 rpg and about 1 spg) demarcus cousins will be further along in his development, hopefully learning to stick to the precise one fake moves rather than the helter skelter 3 or 4 move fakes that end up in traveling violations and also the claim is that we are seeking a "major front court talent" via either free agency or trade. I personally think they are targeting either david west or al horford (hes a FA right?)
I do have some questions though;
Do we continue have tyreke manning the point guard spot? Does thornton still start? (i feel he deserves to until he proves hes not an 18-20 ppg a guy night that plays well without the ball alongside tyreke and we played winning basketball in the last 10-15 games with both of them in the starting lineup) Is honeycutt the long term answer that can develop into the perfect compliment of our backcourt? Who’s going to be our next head coach? What happens to all the swingmen we have on the roster (garcia, casspi, greene, salmons, honeycutt)
I have my own answers for each question:
I think tyreke should be the pg. I think that thornton showed that he can play well off of the ball and is a deadly shooter in spot up situations and can create for himself as he did consistently. Which leads into my answer to the next question regarding thornton; i believe he should still start. as much as im excited to see jimmermania, i believe that thornton is obviously already proven. hes not a slouch defensively (averaged a little more than a steal a game as our starter) Honeycutt and the SF position is very enigmatic. Im just about positive that salmons will start at the 3. Im also thinking that with him being 31, past his prime, and not the best player on our team, that he will accept being a 3rd or 4th option and provide veteran leadership vocally and all that jazz. Ideally, our SF needs to be a great defender, capable of guarding the better offensive wings (kobe, wade etc) and be a reliable knockdown shooter. Which brings me to honeycutt as he has the potential to do just those things and hes an above average athlete. Obviously westphal is the coach now, but i think he will only be here until his contract is up. I just dont like him to be honest. He’s alright just not my favorite. I actually flirted with the thought of bringing adelman back. Dont know how the relationship is with the maloofs and adelman now but i definitely would love to see how he could develop our young talent. And the swingmen i believe get traded, cut, waived, placed on injured reserve for "ghost" injuries besides casspi (who i think will be the perfect energy guy with some 3 point range to bring in off the bench) i think greene gets traded for sure. I think garcia may be in the rotation possibly if casspi struggles, and honeycutt will or at least should have a spot on the roster.
As far as the Jimmer Fredette thing goes, i believe he should be developed into an instant offense guy off the bench ala jason terry who plays a lot of minutes on the court and could be paired with tyreke and thornton to cause match up problems. With those 3 out there you allow tyreke to take his man one on one and if people want to sag off of jimmer and thornton light their a$$es up. reke can guard the 3, thornton the 2 and hopefully jimmer can be serviceable guarding the 1. Quickly, on the addition of a major front court guy, its not looking like we’ll retain dalembert. i think the possibility of horford is amazing to pair with demarcus cousins as he does all the things demarcus may not consistently do such as defend, be scrappy etc i dont know horford’s situation but i saw he was a restricted FA this summer.
I actually think that if we can get the most or something close to it of this team, we could be a borderline 8 seed even if it is out west. a lot of things will have to fall into place but i like our chances. Now, for everyone else’s thought as i think i got everything out lol

the I in winParticipantI think if the Kings make any free agent signing they have to really think to themselves if the player is the right fit. They need a veteran that actually thinks they are capable of winning games night in and night out. If they could have gotten capt jack in that 3 way trade I would have said they are a playoff team next year.

4th dimensionThe Kings have too many players who loves to score (Thornton, Jimmer, Evans, Cousins) but not enough players who are willing to play defense. If their main core players dedicate themselves other than just scoring, then they could surprise people at that #8 spot on the West.

juves4783Participanti don’t know what direction the kings are going in with the jimmer pick. it seems like he would be a good fit with reke if jimmer was planning on just being a spot shooter, but jimmer’s best quality is his ability to shoot off the dribble. jimmer, evans and cousins on the same floor is bound to leave one guy complaining about touches. add john salmons and thornton and i see serious chemistry issues. i thought the pick should’ve been kawhi leonard in the first and darius morris in the second. i do think they saved face by picking honeycutt, but i thought his weakness was not being aggressive all the time. on the kings, i think he’ll continue to fade in the background.

Memphis MadnessParticipantI watched Tyreke at Memphis and he wasn’ very effective off the ball. Not a great standstill shooter and he needs to get in a rhythm. When Calipari moved him to point guard our team took off. He’s great at slashing and getting to the basket. Against Mizzou in that tourney loss he played great even tough we lost. I think it was a great Coach Cal performance where he had to do two things: showcase Tyreke and get him his stats (that happened) and 2, throw the game but don’t make it look like you are trying to lose, make it look like another Great John Calipari Choke Job. Well, he got a few dumb technicals that resulted in free throws, got down by a ton early, looked rather subdued on the sidelines then made a decent comeback to get it close but still lost. With the old Kentucky coach out of a job, Coach Cal had to lose the game and then immediately take the job in secret without making it look like he deliberately throwing the game.
Tyreke Evans is great because he has awesome size for a point guard. If he were a two guard then his athleticism would be failry mediocre and his size and length wouldn’t be that special. Put him at point guard. Then put Marcus Thornton at the 2 guard spot. Supposedly they worked well together. Then bring in Jimmer as a super sub, and Sacramento’s version of JJ Barea. Either play him at point or off the ball at either guard spot with one of the two starters or go small with a three guard lineup of Barea, Evans, and Thornton.
John Salmons is back but I don’t know where he fits. They have 3 guards now and they have several small forwards. I guess he comes off the bench as a 7th or 8th guy.
Tyler Honeycutt should be a good piece if he can play small forward. I would keep three small forwards with him, Omri Casspi (brings a lot to the table), and Francisco Garcia who might be the best token starter of the bunch. Donte Greene has talent but this team already has enough scorers. They might want to trade him for some help up front.
I would then want to see if Cousins (at the five) and Jason Thompson (at the four) play well together. If they do they don’t need an expensive center to replace Sam Dalembert (who they might not resign). Then trade Donte Greene to get some good backups up front and maybe a solid reserve point guard who can add some depth up front.
… someone commented on a Rockets article said that the Rockets might do WORSE next year since they lost Rick Adelman (which could be true). The Rockets finished great but they didn’t do so well for the rest of the year. I am not a huge fan of the Rockets and I don’t really see how Marcus Morris is a good pick for them. The Chandler Parsons pick might actually be better. They played better after they traded Shane Battier but I think they will miss his leadership and experience. I think they might lose 3 or 4 more games than last year, and I think the Kings have a legit shot at being one of the team’s out West that improves the most (along with the T Wolves). I think the Kings will be the 8th or 9th best team in the west next year and will make a good run for the playoffs. The top seven seeds should be the Mavs, Thunder, Grizzlies, Lakers, Spurs, Blazers, and Nuggets (probably in that order), but the 8th seed will be wide open. I have no idea what the Hornets will do next year record wise, and I think the Kings will be there, as will the Rockets, plus you have the Jazz who should be a lot better, as well as the Clippers (Blake Griffin but really, not that much else), and Warriors. I also think the T Wolves could win around 28-33 games next year which would be a big improvement. I don’t see any really bad teams out west, and if Jimmer clicks, if Cousins improves, if they can play some team defense and if Tyreke comes out strong and has a great year (which is possible) then the Kings will be my sleeper team out west.
