steviechillzParticipantSo, Ive been thinking about Westbrook’s game for awhile and I think that after he either leaves OKC or OKC gets a true PG, he should move his position to SG. Now here me out before I get a million negatives. Here are my top 3 reasons:
1) Russell Westbrook is natural scorer. He puts up ridiculous numbers day in, and day out by driving hard off pick and rolls and elevating for his much imporved mid range jumper. I dont think he will ever be a guy who will bring up the ball and try to make a play for his teamates before himself.
2) Russell Westbrook is MONSTER atheltic and can defend multiple positions. Some might say Westbrook is too small to play SG, I definitely refute that. Take a look at Eric Gordon and Dwayne Wade for example…both are 6’3, strong, and haven’t had a problem dealing with the likes of other SG’s who are close to 6’6 and 6’7. As we all know, Rusell is definitely one of the top 3 athletic players in the game today. He can use this to his advantage against less quick SG’s on a daily basis
3) Russell Westbrook wants to be a number one option. Lets face it, unless ur one of the top 3-4 pgs in the league, you are not the number one option. And unforutunately for him he has KD on his team who takes up a lot of scoring away from him.
I think the best thing for Westrbook and OKC would be to trade westrbook straight up for Rondo. Rondo, Thabo, KD, Ibaka, Perk line up would be ridiculous;y good for them and you still get the scoring off the bench from harden. Rondo will make other players on that team better. This would be good for t he Celtics too because Westbrook can be the number one scoring option on that team and you can either trade Paul Pierce or what one year to get a true PG beside Westbrook
Either way I think Westbrook would excell in a SG position compared to a PG position

FastAndFuriousParticipantIf the Thunder were losing games, I would agree with all the Westbrook scenarios(Trading him, switching him to another position) but they are the 2nd best team in the NBA, some may even say best.
Westbrook stays at PG, at that position he can do soooo many things other PG’s can’t besides D.Rose, moving Westbrook to the 2 hurts him, for the simple fact he needs the ball in his hands to be effective, and granted he does make silly mistakes, but Westbrook’s good FAR outweighs his bad.

Mr. 19134ParticipantInteresting tho if you put Westbrook at SG he might be able to average a ton of points. It would remind me of players tryna keep up with Iverson coming off screens it was nearly impossible. Iverson was so fast it was comical tryna watch player keep up with him as he weaved through traffic and got open. I could see Westbrook doing the same thing, he would be so hard to keep up with running through screens off the ball.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipanti like the trade idea, i could see a marbury garnett thing happening in OKC if they dont trade him

HadzialijagicParticipantIf you move Westbrook to SG what are you gonna do with James Harden? I like the idea of playing him at SG though maybe 10-15 minutes a game would be nice put him next to a pass first point guard and run him off screens.
Id also like to see the Thunder try a lineup out with Harden at point whos a great passer and unselfish with westbrook at 2. Im not saying it would work i’d just like to see it.0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/18/2012 - 12:40pm #638544

PlatypusParticipantHow good is Eric Maynor? Could he start if the Thunder were to trade Westbrook and Perk for D12?

aamir543ParticipantDon’t trade Westbrook. Whatever the Thunder do, they should hold onto him. He is just scraping the surface of his potential and compliments Durant beautifully. Why would you wnat to trade teh second best player on a team that has the third best record, the best in the West, an in my opinion the 2nd best team in the league.
Dont fix it if it ain’t broke.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantGarnett and Marbury was about money. Both Westbrook and Durant have already agreed to long term deals so it’s not similar at all.
Marbury was always a whack job while being divisive to his teams. Westbrook on the other hand is overly competitive. Westbrook and Durant have a few things that might need to be ironed out personally but it would be foolish to split them up seeing that OKC will find it more difficult to attract other top tier players if a trade for Rondo didn’t pan out the way they had hoped.

JonOatsParticipantThis is a possible solution and puts together other trade rumors that have been swirling around in a way that makes more sense. 4 team deals are difficult to work out and I understand OKC’s reluctance to change anything at this stage, but Westbrook will likely be a problem in the future. Harden should be getting more looks and he and Serge Ibaka will need to be resigned in two years. Not enough money for everyone. Here’s the trade and then the reasons why it’s good for each team after.
Minnesota: Westbrook, Perkins
OKC: Pau, Ridnour, Laker’s First Round Pick from Dallas
Lakers: Andre Miller, Beasley
Denver: D. Williams, N. Mohammed
The Wolves get the SG they have been looking for. They are getting the best player in this deal so give up a little more. Perkins is a useable back up or they can amnesty him. Since Beasley is leaving anyway, they are basically trading Williams for Westbrook. Backcourt of Rubio and Westbrook is exciting and interchangable defensively.
The Thunder get a low post threat to go with Durant and Harden. Ridnour is better than people think and is a natural PG that will help the OKC shooters. Maynor will also be back next year who is ready to start. Westbrook’s trade value is extremely high right now. Also this actually saves the Thunder money over the next few years to resign their other stars.
The Lakers have to add a PG and both Miller and Beasley can create and their contracts expire after this season so if the experiment doesn’t work LA has cap room to look for other options during the off season. This uses the Odom trade exception and they don’t need two first round picks this year.
The Nuggets are getting Williams and Mohammed for the expiring contract of Miller. This is a no brainer for them. Lawson has been great at running their offense and Williams gives them a deep and versatile frontcourt.
