A major slept on prospect. He’s near the top of my board for the Sixers to take. Reminds me of a longer stronger John Henson or a fundamentally sound Javelle McGee. Gobert’s length is the stuff of legends and he’s got great fluidity and ability to finish. His biggest question mark is his lack of strength but at his height with his length it won’t be as big a problem as people think. He’ll be able to rebound, block shots, and dunk from day one.

I’m really interested to see how he does in the NBA. I like him a lot, as John Henson has made me a believer in players of their build. The one thing I think Henson has over Gobert though is that though they’re both raw, I think Henson was slightly better offensively, and I think his basketball IQ is higher than Gobert’s at this point in time, but there’s so much potential there in both of these guys.

In 21.8 mpg he averaged 8.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, and 1.7 bpg in 24 French league games. I don’t really follow overseas basketball, so I don’t know the reason why he only got 21.8 mpg, but from the tape it looks like he should have had more. He’s athletic and mobile and can block shots with his 7’1 height and 7’9 wingspan. He can rattle the rims with some monstrous dunks and can swat the ball a mile away, but I have not seen his offensive skillset on display. Does anyone know how he does when he’s not dunking the ball every single touch. From what I’ve seen, he reminds me of a more filled out, slightly less agile Hakim Warrick. They both can dunk it from far away from the basket, both can block shots, but both appear to be more athletes than basketball players, but I could be wrong if someone has seen more of Gobert than me so I’m interested in seeing what others have to say.

You should know from experience that overseas stats are almost meaningless because guys who produce are the ones who washed out of the NBA and the guys who don’t produce are the guys who go first round and have a nice career. Nobody really puts up big numbers overseas especially big men who don’t get the ball often.

I mean if Biyombo can go seventh why couldn’t Gobert? Both are super raw and long with the potential to be game changers on the defensive end. The thing that intrigues me about Gobert is he is 7’1!

he’s very young… so playing 21 mpg is already huge for him.

here in france teams (sometimes) don’t give lots of PT for young prospects and don’t don’t trust them enough. So players like J.Lauvergne can decide to leave (he went to Partizan Belgrade where he plays with Westermann).

Govert has good shoulders and as I already explained it (on another thread) he has hired a nutritionist / chef and change his diet to add some weight… A nice prospect who should rise the board after the combine (top 10 in my mind and maybe top 7).

Can’t sleep on any French prospects. Gobert and Fournier are the new Batum and Parker.
