UNCbasketballbumParticipantCan Rudy Gay still become a superstar in this league? He has all the tools to be great, athleticism, jumper, handle, quickness, skill. I know he’s been injured but he’s still only 25 years old, will be 26 this year.

bedrock23ParticipantNO

Chilbert arenasParticipantHe can and should be an all-star at some point, but never a superstar

WizardofOzParticipantNah. I this point he’s an inefficient volume scorer. He’s getting paid 1st option money when he’s really a 2nd or 3rd option on a good team.

UNCbasketballbumParticipantfair enough

For_Never_EverParticipantHis assist rate is horrible for a star player. I think he gets somewhere in the realm of 1 or 2 assist a game.

TheDagger40ParticipantIf he was 22-24, possibly
But at 26, He’s at his prime. Right now, he can still make that leap but it’s unlikely.
We’ll see in 1-2 years though.

ChrisCrossParticipantcould he be the top scorer on a title contender….yes, he just needs help around him. Remember, somepeople used to think Dirk couldn’t be the guy on a title team, so yea.

BiggysmallsParticipantLike someone mentioned above, he doesnt really seem to make the rest of the Grizz better. Hes a really solid scorer, but it just seems like he forces things too often and doesnt allow his points to come in rhythm enough.
The Grizzlies last year compared to the Grizzlies this year, you would think they would be playing at a much higher level with Gay, I realize Randolph isnt 100 % but you would think theyd be playing better.

river09ParticipantNo. Lacks confidence in his one on one game. And if you can’t create effectively one-vs-one.. well.. might as well be ryan anderson.. His 3’s at the end of the game were impressive but he needed to show up earlier… James Harden is the superstar tonight. No doubt about that.

r377ParticipantHe reminds me a bit of melo – sure he can score and his stats look ok but i don’t think he is a great team mate and i dont think he make the Grizz a better team.
They looked great last year without him…..

For_Never_EverParticipantI looked up his apg for his career it’s 1.9 and this year is the highest it’s been at 2.3.
I’m assuming his apg is the lowest out of all the star players.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantSomeone said "he just needs help around him".
This is on of the dumbest comments I have ever seen on this site (only considering the serious ones). This team when crazy in the playoffs last year without Gay.. To say he doesn’t have players around him is just asinine.

omphalosParticipantI don’t think you can put too much stock in his low apg numbers, the Grizzlies run the majority of their offense through the post with Gasol or Randolph, the majority of the times Rudy is handling the ball they are looking for him to isolate and score.
The Grizzlies have a prototypical 5 man lineup, Conley distributes, Mayo creates a little and spreads the floor, Gay plays off the ball and scores in isolation, Randolph and Gasol play in the high/low post or pick and roll. There just isn’t a need for Gay to have great assist numbers with the role he plays. Is it so wrong for Gay to be a traditional small forward, not the point forward that is so popular in the modern game?
I think this taste of the post-season might be the push he needs to work even harder and be more assertive. Another year of good health, a full training camp to better incorporate Z-Bo and Gay, and while he probably won’t be a "superstar", I can see him legitimising himself as a true 1st option over the next two years.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantTypo…
"this team when crazy.."
Should have said "went crazy".

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWhat Chilbert Arenas said
He can and probably will be a 2x All-Star but not a superstar or someone that can carry a team by himself.

TallmanNYCParticipantSuperstar is tough but a few more years with ought big injuries and they wont be regretting that contract. Remember max money doesn’t always buy lebrons James.
